The only reason we knew all the MK9 characters was because of leaks. I'm sure NRS will try to keep a couple secret if they can.

boon said it was 25 early on when he explained it would really be 75 with variations. i dont know if he just used that as an example but it sounds about right. i dont think everyone will be shown.

Who wasn't already shown besides Quan-Chi and Cyber Sub-Zero who were meant to be secret anyways? The only one I can think of is Sheeva...

After the leak NRS did a mash up video that showed Kabal, Stryker & Sheeva.

Not that he was meant to be secret, but I think I remember Smoke being the last one in basically. First footage I saw of him was from some guy that got the game early in Brazil, and put a video up on youtube. This was around the same time as the leaks I'm pretty sure

Quan Chi, Sheeva, Smoke and Cyber Sub-Zero were the only MK9 characters not officially released before release.

But I wouldn't expect something similar here, since MKX is a whole different beast than a trilogy nostalgia game that had a roster we all expected.

I think we'll get at least four or five more reveals, which would equate to roughly 2/3 of the cast revealed before release. This is disregarding a full roster leak, which is likely.

Hypothetically, let's say the game does ship with only 24 characters. What might that roster look like?

That really doesn't leave much room for others to come to play like Jax, Sonya, Smoke, Cyrax, Sektor, Nightwolf, Sindel or any of the other popular post-Trilogy characters like Tanya and Havik.

That is the main reason I strongly believe there are more than 24 playable characters in this game. With the amount of rumored characters we've seen or heard from motion capture pics by Ed to the comic to the leaked casting call and Gamestop ad, that just doesn't leave much room for anybody else. Also, I realize I left out a spot for 13 and that's because Ermac is in the air until tomorrow so I didn't place him in either column.

i guess alot of you are under the assumption that new characters are mostly mk4-3d era characters being added to the new retconned storyline? im thinking boons mean brand new characters built from the ground up not a bunch of revamped characters from the previous games.i hope im right,if not im still buying the game anyway.

I think 8 more reveals between February and March (4 a piece). That will bring the count to 21 after tomorrow's reveal. Leaves 3 that we will not know until we unlock them via story-mode, plus 5 DLC + Goro. The outcome is 30.

Yeah, there are (hopefully) gonna be some surprises.

Like an out-of-left-field Sektor or maybe Reiko or something.

In any case, I'm also expecting more than 24. I wouldn't be surprised if 24 was the final number, and I wouldn't mind it, but 26-28 is also more likely than before with the recent "we're squeezing in as many as we can" comment. I still think the people expecting 30+ have their heads in the clouds, though.

HOPEFULLY, DEAR GOD, we get a new select screen tomorrow with the final amount of roster spots, so this speculation can end.

until the other new characters are introduced as playable in game,im not counting comic book characters or web series characters no matter how high the potential is for them to be in the game.thats where a good chunk of the butthurt in this forum comes from aside from returning favorites getting another spot in the game over characters people have on their wishlist.

If you replaced Kung Jin with Tanya, Ron Tan Cho with Ermac, and maybe Shang Tsung with Havik/Reiko, it seems pretty accurate. But I don't think Bo Rai Cho will make it in, even though I want him, so you could probably replace him with Baraka. Wow, that's my fantasy roster right there.
