The game is described as a "mobile-exclusive cinematic story experience" built on team-based gameplay that will allow players to deploy squads against a "dark and dangerous" new threat coming to your handheld device 2023. Chief Creative Officer Ed Boon describes "strategic team-based collection RPG with fast-paced, group melee combat".
NetherRealm launched MK into the mobile gaming sphere with Mortal Kombat X Mobile in 2015, evolving its kard kollecting mechanic and console-inspired simplified interface with the release of MK11 and the 2019 Mortal Kombat Mobile relaunch.
We await further details about the nature of the story and if it will continue from previous events, adapt aspects of the original MK Trilogy, or expand into a new reality all its own. A "multiverse" of multiple timelines was established with MK2011 and Mortal Kombat 11, and the newest animated feature Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind.
