Sheeva was never popular to begin with and never had gotten the love that most would have liked to see. Although she does have spammable moves to go up against, though she's not too fun to play as from what I heard.

I've never seen people complain about Baraka though, just don't see anything about him on this thread too often.

I hate these threads... "Why do people hate/like (insert character name here)"... No offense to the OP, it's not your fault.

People have different taste in character. Usually, people follow the mainstream and goes with one or two characters who are deemed the "coolest" of the roster. Usually a main hero or villain character, or a character which is promoted alot - the characters people recognize easily from posters, commercials, game covers etc..

Another theory is that people pick characters which they can relate to or wants to be like. And simply, the minority wishes to be like Baraka or Sheeva.

And no, I do not want to be like Jade, though she is my favourite character. I do want Reiko though... but that's a discussion not proper in this thread. ;P

Sheeva have always been hated on. And when she's not being hated she's in the background. She's an extra. An afterthought.

Think Tina from Glee. Or Rain.tongue

I still love her though.

Baraka is finally killer in this game. I love his alt costume, it suits him very well . As for Sheeva, NRS didn't really do anything to/with her. Sheeva is the first main roster character that they should of put the most work into. It's the most probable reason why she has not many fans. They left out one of her cooler moves, which is the, Twirling Fist Punch that she obtained in Trilogy...I think.

Because people can't understand greatness.

Baraka is my all time favorite MK character and fighter in the series. I get ripped on all the time. "He makes no sense. How does he talk with his mouth full of teeth? He has no lips. He's retarded."

Yes. Let's talk logic in a Mortal Kombat game...

Haters gonna hate I guess.

These threads will always come up, but I stand by my opinion that Sheeva is an underrated, underestimated gem in this game. When I saw she was the "least played" character a few months back, I decided to see just why that was... and she instead emerged as my main character, one in whom I got every last single online achievement and destroyed the competition (mainly Scorpion and Smoke users) with minimal effort. She is absolutely amazing if you understand the nuances of her moveset and can time her moves accordingly. You have to play aggressively, yet defensively. When an opening occurs, I can use Sheeva to get in there, hammer them, and she has amazing recovery times that allow me to do so rather safely. She's my best character, and I didn't expert her to be.

Baraka is much better after a boost too, though I would agree he's one of the most difficult to use. Very few combo opportunities, knockbacks on almost all his moves, and his distance game is sorely lacking, but he's gotten better after you start to become aware of his range, reach, and anti-air and ground games.

But Sheeva? She's a goddess in this game.

I completely RULE with Baraka and he's my #1, with Kitana next, and actually am pretty good with Sheeva especially her ducking throw, airborn throw, and regular grab and pound throw, also her slap combo is sweet and makes her quicker and opens up for a good juggle combo!!!

Baraka!!! Wow, he's actually one of the BEST, great against spammers of Smoke, Ermac, and Scorpion; LITTERALLY, also got every trophy with him, his dash blade move takes almost the whole screen and very nice blade fury for teleport spammers!!!

Maybe it's because they don't have a good story (or a story period) even after a reboot?

Honestly, they're just there.

Absolutely.

While both have cool moves and are formidable fighters, they have just never risen to anything higher than watchdogs of Kahn's. Another little-helping factor is the fact that their mentality NEVER changes: the MK 2011 Baraka is perfectly the same one that we first saw almost twenty years ago in MK 2, both in his looks and ambitions, provided he ever in fact had any. And people don't want to look up to machine-minded drones.

I have always been fascinated by mystics and bearded wizards who forever make their vile plots just for the love of it; hence Shang Tsung as my all time favorite. Also, Shang Tsung is Kahn's sort of a grand vizier; and the refined, well-educated grand vizier-type villains, with their macho plots and their even more macho executions, can never become tiresome. Add supernatural abilities, and you arguably get the badassery at its best !

Believe it or not, that's what made Stryker my favorite when I was a kid. I admired and slightly wanted to be like him. I stuck onto him for that.

Obviously, I like him now for more reasons than just how awesome he is, but....is it really my fault NRS made him irresistibly sexy.

Disco_Diva Wrote:

You see....I don't understand this logic. People say the same thing about Stryker.

"Well, he doesn't have any development, so I don't like him." He hasn't had the chance to have any development! Same goes for Sheeva or Baraka in this game.

Sheeva was a great character in MK3! When she witnessed Sindel being forced to fight her own daughter, she betrayed Shao Kahn, helped Kitana make Sindel fight her mind control, DEFEATED MOTORO, and was killed the moment Shao Kahn discovered her deeds. She was awesome!

But in this game, the writers toss her aside and make her a filler enemy? "Bad character. She has no purpose!" It's annoying! Sheeva has only been in two real games (I don't count Armageddon, ever). Same goes for Stryker.

Baraka actually had some real connection and power in MK2 and MKD, but this game killed that.

Preach. I don't understand the logic in hating undeveloped characters who have only appeared in two or three games(Sheeva,Stryker,Rain, ect) while loving undeveloped characters that have been given chance after chance after chance but never uses any of them.

When the game came out, both of these characters were lower tiers, Baraka had a lot of short distance moves and slow projectiles. Sheeva was very slow.

Both characters have been given armor and other buffs now, so they are more viable. Personally I have a blast stomping people with Sheeva.

I'm probably alone in thinking Sheeva is one of the best characters in this series.... I mean... She may have little plot development, but there are plenty of characters who have had tons of story development and STILL have bad stories... Like, I don't know... Nearly everyone.

Sheeva's been my baby since her debut, and there is really nothing wrong with her... The hatred just comes from her lack of appeal to your typical fan... She's a big, muscled, not particularly sexy woman with a deep voice. It's like anti-gamer-boy material.

Baraka's also been one of my favorites because his name rhymes with maraca... Think of all the fun you could have with that.

Personally, I've always liked the concept of Sheeva, being the female representant of the Shokan race, but I've never grasped gameplay. But that doeasn't mean I don't want her to be in the game. However, I dare say that her appearance in this game is rather boring. I loved her MKA look, but her look in this game just seems tame to me. I like her alternate outfit though, it's quite cool.

I feel the same about Baraka, actually. I like the concept of him, being the raging hound Shao Kahn unleashes on his enemies, the prime alpha of his pack of Tarkatans, the perfect henchman. He doesn't really need any more story than that. But again, I've never grasped his gameplay. I do find it cool though, I just can't play as him very well.

Baraka and Sheeva are sweet as hell.

I've always loved the less than popular characters, Stryker, Rain, and Sheeva.

Sheeva was a gem in MK3, intelligence, grace, and she wasn't blindly loyal to Kahn, she'd destroy anyone who threatened her people, she wasn't evil, just looking out for her own. She got the short end of the stick in terms of story, hopefully she shows up next game to change that.

Her gameplay was superb in MK3.

In this game? Her gameplay is harder to get used to but she can be a serious heavy hitter in the right hands. She's fun to use, but I'm not that good with her.

I wish they'd have done more with her primary, the jewels and black flame stripes were a nice touch along her costume and arm gauntlets, I just wish they would have combined that with her costume from MK Annihilation or gave her something less open( but still similar to her primary).

I really do adore Sheeva, she's my second favorite female behind Sonya.

Baraka is great in this game, love both of his costumes. I rarely use him, but when I do I have fun with his combos and gameplay. I wasn't expecting much out of him storywise as I suspected he would still be a blind servant, but I expect great things from him in the next game, hopefully Sheeva and Baraka will become her trusted guardians and advisors as she rules as Queen of Outworldsmile

TL:DR version Sheeva and Baraka are the shit and both deserve to return in the next gamegrin
