Was Edenia freed at the end of the game?
You know, for being such an avid MK fan and playing through story mode a few times, I'm surprised I never actually addressed this.
In the prior games, Edenia lost to Outworld and was merged into it, but upon Kahn's defeat (not even death) in MK3, the realm was split and Edenia was restored to its former glory with Kahn in the background, licking his wounds.
In MK2011, Kahn just doesn't get defeated; he gets (supposedly, har har) killed, thus his claim on Edenia should be over and the realm restored, right?
But we get no indication this has happened. Quan Chi and Shinnok talk about the conquest of both Earthrealm and Outworld, but it seems Edenia is still apart of Outworld instead.
I wonder, how did Edenia get liberated, if the defeat of Kahn was not the key to undoing the merger of the realms?
Or was Edenia freed and this info glossed over?
If Edenia was freed upon Kahn's demise, would Quan Chi use Kitana and Sindel as his puppets to mislead their people, or would Rain seize control of the realm? Would a now-freed Ermac assume control as leader with the soul of King Jerrod guiding him?
If Edenia was NOT freed, what would the remaining Edenia fighters do to free their realm? Earth was freed; surely it's their turn. Again, would Ermac and Rain fight for their independence, or would they submit to the rule of an Outworld maniac like Mileena or Reiko?
What do you think? What is the current status quo for Edenia, WHY is that status quo in effect, and what do you think is going to happen to the realm and its people now that Kahn is gone?

should still be with outworld seeing how Kitana is dead and so is sindel. i wonder in the next game will reptile and all the "bad guys" join earth or shinnok

The Realm is left how it is, unchanged and some problems start because there isn't no rule.

I doubt it and I doubt Shinnok or Quan Chi would want to free it either. If it's already merged with Outworld, then why liberate it just to take it over again, increasing the work load. As far as I can tell Edenia is screwed at the moment, with the three fighters most likely to free it dead. I doubt Tanya or Rain or Daegon are going to do anything about it. Perhaps if Taven is woken, he could try to free it, or perhaps Jerrod's soul will try to coerce Ermac into freeing it.
It's strange because MK4 took place in Edenia, so the butterfly effect is really starting to wreck havoc. I hope it is freed soon enough. Personally, I want a benevolent Sindel back on the throne as soon as possible.
Edenia could be used as a bargaining chip. Earthrealm won't ally with Outworld unless the leader (possibly Mileena) agrees to free the realm. I don't know. But the changes Raiden has had a huge ripple effect and if the MK3 act of story mode is anything to go by, we're in for a very different MK4-style scenario. Possibly nothing like it at all.

In the original timeline,it was stated in MK Deception Konquest that after Shao Kahn was defeated by Liu Kang, Kitana found and shattered the orb which connected Edenia to Outworld (just like Nitara did in MK Deadly Alliance),therefore freeing her homeworld.
In this timeline I think Edenia is still part of Outworld even after Shao Kahn's death, because Kitana,Jade and Sindel are all dead and the only survived edenians that we know running around are Rain,Tanya (I don't think they are interested in freeing Edenia) and Daegon (who doesn't even care about Edenia at all). You can say Ermac is edenian too (King Jerrod?),but he must be freed from Shao Kahn's control just like in original timeline (or maybe that Shao Kahn is DEAD now he is already free?)
Anyways, good thread Garlador as always,I hope this question will be answered in MK10.

That's something that is on the air and who knows if they will adress the problem on the next game. I hope they do but during this game they shown little knowledge of the stories they wrote years ago (Vogel was around during that time, even if Tobias was the main writer), not adressing many problems and facts that shouldn't be possible.
With the Queen and Princess on Netherrealm I have the theory since some time that Rain, possibly aided by Tanya will take control of Edenia and make it his own realm. Then the resurrected Sindel and Kitana should regain control of the kingdom to support earthrealm and outworld against the forces of the netherrealm.
It makes even more sense now that the reason of Rain joining Kahn was because he wanted power and his former allies didn't help him with that.
Now he has the perfect opportunity with Outworld forces decimated after the war and the Emperor dead.
Maybe Ermac/Jerrod will oppose him and look after Raiden to help him saving the dead heroes (he surely knows about lost souls...) and bringing them back, in order to revive the queen and the princess.
That would be a possibility, but as I said, firt NRS writters have to do some research of the world they created to not mess things again.

Interesting to guess what happens with Shao Kahn supposedly destroyed.
One thing that I like about the new timeline is Edenia looks like it’s not freed.
There really was little point in showing a lot of the Edenian plot. The realm itself is nearly a second Earth, but more perfect. Now Earth doesn’t have to play baby sitter and can be the primary focus.
With a second realm they were always trying to protect it later on, causing more of a hassle I think. It's already going to be a juggling act facing Outworld and Netherrealm, attempting to protect another sounds like overkill.
Since Edenia is long merged with Outworld, I think that only helps the Edenian characters since the good ones are going to have a direct reason to fight when they are one with Outworld, a realm that produces some of the worst beings in existence and is now threatened itself.
I like Edenia, but I think it should be the perfect story mode ending at the very very end of the MK story, freeing Edenia would give Kitana, Jade and any other good Edenian a good payoff.
Also with Ermac housing King Jerrod, it’s only a matter of time before something goes down with at least trying to separate the realm. Hopefully not successful and has that as a long term goal. I’m also curious how the King Jerrod angle is going to deal with Kitana and Sindel.
It also makes sense all of what made Edenia is within Outworld now, so the Armageddon pyramids could emerge from Outworld soil this time around if it ever goes that route again.

A very interesting thread, though the answer's obviously no. As Noobsmoke92 already mentioned...
As long as the Orb exists, Edenia doesn't, as it is merged with Outworld, and is no longer a separate realm. Earthrealm wasn't freed when the war ended because it was never captured, and never merged with Outworld. Edenia will only ever be freed when the Orb Shao Kahn hid is destroyed, the same way Nitara's world required that step to be freed in DA, and to be honest, unless characters like Rain and Tanya are picky about what realm it is they rule ("do I want to rule an amalgamation of hundreds of worlds, or just one?"), I don't think we'll ever see a free Edenia.
As long as Shao Kahn's other generals or heirs to his throne are alive, any of them can take up the mantle he left behind (Mileena, Baraka, Ermac*, Rain, Kano, Goro, Kintaro all come to mind as people who have the right connections and are important enough to just take over), and keep Edenia under Outworld's rule.**
*Ermac's on the list here because having Jerrod's soul in him doesn't mean he'll become a good guy in this run. There are thousands of souls in him, any of whom could influence his thoughts at a whim. Also, becoming good or not, he could just as easily become the new Emperor of Outworld and see no reason to separate Edenia from it.
**On that note, Reptile's not on the list, as he's never proven himself capable of being a ruler, only a loyal lackey, and has never shown aspirations for greater power.

I loved the story and I'm really excited to see where they go with it in the next game. There are so many possibilities. :)
Agree with Jerrod here. All signs point to Edenia remaining a part of Outworld. Also likely... the absence of Kahn's iron fisted rule has left a massive power vacuum and civil war ravages the realms. It'll be interesting to see who, if anyone, rises from the ashes with Kahn's bloodied crown. Rain? Reiko? Goro? Sheeva? Guess we'll have to stay tuned.

I'm guessing either ermac rain or Tanya will rise up and take over edenia once the time is right but anything can happen really

No... and it's disappointing.. I wanted to see scenes like Edenia being seperated from Outworld shown.. instead we got the.. Sindel scene....
