There has been a little emphasis on versus screens with this game so far if you compare it with Armageddon. As Mortal Kombat (2011) will supposedly have two costumes per a character, do you think that we will have separate versus screens from them as well?

When both you and the opponent had the same character back in 2d games, the outfits differed quite distinctly - often having opposite colors. But when we went into 3d, the differences were quite subtle, having usually only small tone differences. We have only seen Johnny Cage's alternative colors (blue/red) in this game but from what it looks like we're going in the same line with the 2d games. We didn't have alternative colors for versus screens in past games as we did in the 2d games but do you think that we will have them back in Mortal Kombat (2011)? Another thing about alternative colors: should we now be able to choose the other color variation of a costume legitimately without the necessity of another player as in other games (e.g. Dead Or Alive)? We have gotten versus screen renders quite scantily to this date, maybe NRS is planning on releasing them with a blast as the launch day comes closer. If they will have several VS screens per a character, I think it would be topflight if they released them day by day in a countdown style.

Versus screens should have alternate colors and show the alt costumes.

For a while, I have been wanting to select alternate colors.

They better have the alternate colors.

I agree with this.

I would definitely like to see versus screens. The ones we have seen in gameplay videos are okay, but I would like to see more of the MK3, MK Gold style versus screen. They kinda brought it back in Armageddon, but I like the old school ones better.

Yeah, the ones in Armageddon differed from the previous versus screens a bit. In Armageddon they lunged to each other when in other games they just showed their wrath to each other in a rather pose style. I liked the traditional versus screens better and I hope that we will have only them in Mortal Kombat (2011) again. Midway just tried to be too creative with the versus screens in MKA, giving each character a unique stance, leading in some of the characters having to deal with some horrible stances.

Kano should also have only his eye-thing on the good side, in other MK game his metal eye-patch just changed with the side making us believe he had both sides covered with the iron...

I hope the fix everything and make the VS screens more appealing, also by adding the alternate costumes to the mix, so very unlike that stupid game Armageddon.

Versus screens = Loading screens. And I hope there will be an option to install the game (like most other games have these days) so I don't have to spend minutes watching loading screens while climbing the ladder like I was forced to do in MK vs. DC.
So If it's like in the past (versus screen = loading screen) I hope there will be none. Or just very short ones like in SSF4.
Or maybe an option or something to activate versus screens in versus mode before a fight. So that you can enter the kodes if you'd like. I don't think I'd use it much anyway. Oh and of course alt colors/costumes should be displayed in versus screens if they are in the game.

We will confirmedly have loading screens in the game with versus screens in them. The duration has been a few seconds.

A few seconds is ok. Like I said the ones in SSF4 aren't as annoying as the long loading screens for MK vs. DC. I think they should remove the loading bar though. It seems longer when you can actually see how long it takes. Just a versus screen for a FEW seconds before the fight is fine by me though.

I don't see alternate colors working. You expect Sub-Zero to have a costume that's not blue?

That said, I do hope alternate costumes make their way into the versus screens. I see no reason why they shouldn't.

I say save the colour swap costumes for Street fighter. It gets really boring trying to unlock 10 colours per character. I can see there being 4 colour swaps per character in case the need 4 a tag match using the same character in all 4 spots.

I didn't like the thing with Super Street Fighter IV nor Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix either. In Mortal Kombat we would have only one additional color option though and that wouldn't necessarily be locked at any point.

For some characters the change would be less notable as in the 2d games. Sub-Zero was cyan alternatively in Mortal Kombat 3. But he could as well be light blue / dark blue as in Mortal Kombat II.

I wouldn't mind showing alternate costumes during the VS screen if chosen.

But I like the different tone of colors rather than having opposite colors.

I actually hope that they copy SSFIV and have different colors that you pick before the fight

I remembered that you were able to pick the alternative color costume in MK/DC already because of the lack of actual alternative costume. But I hope that they won't rule that option out now, considering that we will have actual alternative costumes, back to the state that was in the past 3d games. That would be about going backwards in development to me.

I personally don't want alternate colors, but VS screens are a must.
I can live with alternate colors if my opponent is the same character, though.
Aside from that, I don't really see it working out. So, say I could alternate colors on a DLC outfit for Kitana, boom, I've got Mileena or Jade and NRS just lost money. Good for me, bad for them.
Not to mention that we're most likely going to get palette swaps of all the ninja characters...how fun.

True. I suppose Reptile could be a little greener. I just don't want to see Red Sub-Zeros and blue Ermacs.

NRS (Midway) has dealt with the issue before. Of course they wouldn't have those colors but maybe e.g. Kitana could potentially have a red costume as in Shaolin Monks that could work as Skarlet to some. You can of course find out who the character is from the health bar. For the ninja characters the color differences overall would be as minimal as in the 2d games, only with different color tones. As for characters like Johnny Cage, Raiden and such the color differences would be broader. As in the MK2011 video where Cage was partially red opposed to blue, just like his original MK1 costume was.

I wouldn't mind color swaps as alt costumes. The costumes are defined enough by other things at this point that they would be easily recognizable anyway.

Plus I loved the stupid costumes in MK:TE.

True, but I'd rather not see it to that dramatic extent. I won't be playing online very often, so I'd hope my opponents would have their alts handy. (Or main outfit, should I choose an Alt.) For ninjas (females included), I'd like a slight variation of tones. I've never had trouble distinguishing MY Sub-Zero from an opponents. I know my character once I choose them. My opponent matters little.

As for JC, Raiden, Nightwolf, and such, Sure, give them a little something different, but like I said, nothing over-dramatic.

*sigh* but then again, I didn't really mind it at all in MK1-3. So who knows, this game may just be so awesome, I won't care. wink

Seeing Raiden and co. having distinct but discreet alternative colors would raise the gameplay value to some extent and as T.U.N. mentioned, people who are not very fond of the primary colors would always have another option there.

Yeah, but you'd think by this point though, most fans would of already accepted the character's primary colors. I know I have. I mean, personally I can't stand Kano, but it's hard for me to imagine him in any other fashion than his classic white or red garb. (Strictly speaking, MK1-3)
You hold valid points that I didn't take into consideration. That being said, I really won't mind if this is an option, it just won't really effect me unless I constantly see characters in odd colors.

That's true, it could become a problem in online play though. This could justify the lack of the option to choose your color. There's a proof that we will nonetheless have rather radical color changes (red Cage). Whether the alternative color costumes are at your disposal or not, I hope that they will remember to note the versus screens as they did in the 2d days with the basic computers of the time.

Ok this has already been mentioned, but there's going to to be people playing a blue Jade, or a Yellow Sub-zero. I'm sorry but if this were Street fighter, you can still tell Ken and Ryu apart when they're in each others colours. It's not the same thing in Mortal kombat. The ninja's may not look 100% alike but they're close enough that it would be hard to tell and I really don't think unlocking all those colour swaps is that fun.

If this influx of colours is in the game, I really hope they don't get carried away like Street fighter. 10 colours for 35 characters= 350 colour swaps. I don't need that many options. To me it's overkill. I get wanting a little diversity but 350?

Lets say we get 28 characters

x10=280 colour swaps
x5=140 colour swaps
x3=84 colour swaps

I could live with 2, I would be perfectly happy with only 2 colours. If they insist on more I really hope they don't push past 4-5 per character. It just gets redundant after that many.
