Both characters are popular, and while both have been left off the rosters of one sequel or another (on multiple occasions)... they've both returned since then (on multiple occasions) and I'm sure we haven't seen the last of either of them in this franchise.

Hell, you could apply everything I just said to any character from MK 1 and 2. They're all popular. They all have lots of fans. They'll all be a part of this franchise forever. Early cast members don't die, they just take breaks.
