Really, did they froget that the original mk machines where made in and by america, so making it japanese is wrong lol.

This reminds me. I saw a closer look at the ps3 layout on the official stick and it irritates me thinking about executing the xray on time with the way it's positioned. Here's what I learned so far:



Square -> left punch
Triangle -> right punch
X - left kick
Circle - right kick

R1 - throw (pressing R1 + directional buttons to switch sides)
R2 - defense

L1 and L2 did not have any function in the demo build.
X-Ray move: R1+R2

You can use the breaker move once X-Ray bar is full.
Triangle to choose arena.

If the Madcatz panel fixes that Xray layout I'm all for it, because the SF4 TE was a sexy stick and big improvement for the company.

They said that the L2 was going to be a switch stance button, and i think maybe we can change the layout of the controller in the options menu.

Not loving this button layout...it seems off compared to the classic layout (I know, that's intentional)...however, it's a good sign that other companies are anticipating a quality game...and financial opportunity.

I thought L1 was the stance change button? Hoping the button assignments can be changed in the options menu.

Impartially speaking, Sanwa parts are better, but this seems to me to be a panel (the topic title should really be changed to reflect that, by the way) designed to appeal to the SF fanbase first and foremost, what with the alteration in positioning of the 'RUN' button and the sideways slant of the rest.

I'll see how long my MK TE stick (I'm not going to stop calling it that by the way) holds up with its HAPP parts. I'd wager it'll last la good long time. If not, well, maybe I can score a spare MadCatz SFTE down the line for cheap that I can pick this up for and mod.

For now, passing.

Quick question. I have a MadCatz TE stick that I bought way back when for SF4. I've never modded it before so I'm just wondering...

When I get this, it's just the panel? Do I need to buy some seperate Sanwa curved buttons and a Sanwa bat-style joystick? or does it come with everything I'll need to just swap panels/pieces on the fly?

This is like NGP to me - not gonna purchase. I'm sticking with the normal controllers. Maybe the new improved D-pad Xbox 360 controller at max.

You will not have to buy new parts for this unless you want a bat stick and curved buttons, and I doubt it will come with new buttons and a stick. And so you know, I'm pretty sure sanwa does not make concave buttons. But, it is a lot of work to mod these things, so it will not be very effecient to switch back and forth between MK and SF panels. You will have to open up the back as well to remove the buttons and stick to switch these out. A SF TE stick costs atleast $120, and this panel will prolly cost atleast another $20.

I will say however that Sanwa parts are the best there are, and SF TE sticks come with sanwa as a standard, so you would not need to buy new buttons or a stick. I have Sanwa in my SF SE stick that I modded, and they are nice. I cant really speak that much to HAPP parts, but I'm pretty sure the original MK cabinets used them, so they should be fine. The MK TE stick comes with HAPP, if im not mistaken. HAPP also uses a round gate in the stick, as opposed to the Square gate in Sanwa sticks. It is easier to do QC movements with a round gate, but not really that much of a difference with the sqaure gate. It comes down to preference really.

I also wana mention the concerns over Madcatz products. They did have a reputation for making really shitty third party controllers, but they totaly changed their image with the SF line. The sticks they made for SF are quality, aside from the buttons and stick in the SE (the reason I modded mine). The TE stick is really good, and there is no reason for concern with it breaking down on you.

"Happ parts are crap" Well maybe for some of the japanese games, but with MK it just feels right especially if you were part of the arcade scene of the 90's. I've tried playing Mortal Kombat 2 with my SFIV TE stick and it just feels wrong. Not just because of the japanese layout, but just the sanwa parts period.

I also like how madcatz are so arrogant these days. They have been making pathetic products for years and years so they finally put something out that people actually like for the first time, and think they're the greatest. LAWLZ


I'll be keeping my MK TE reserve

I've explained this before, when I played MK at the Gamestop Managers Conf this past Fall.

I spoke to Hans Lo about the movesets, and he explained that the Xray mode will be different for each character. It will not be some simple 1 button movement to pull it off. You must also time it perfectly from a particular move into performing it.

Plus, your button layout will be customizable in the settings.

I'll stick with my controller.

Gee they're going all out for this game

I'm already spending more than enough money come April 19, not planning on wasting more money on this. It just doesn't look right either. Maybe had they angled the layout the opposite way I could actually see it being useful, but the traditional MK layout is just fine.
