Would be great if he voiced Shang in this new game, but if he had, I'm sure we would've heard about it by now. I just hope it's not the same voice actor of MKDC, sounded like a pissed-off post-pubescent teenager who smoked a lot.

Seriously though, I would love Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa to reprise Tsung. I mean, the dude looked nothing like Shang Tsung, wore a leather coat, had no facial hair and STILL came across as the best Shang Tsung ever.

Yes, I still think thats the best Shang Tsung.

Most of the voicework in MKvsDC was cringeworthy. Particularly jarring since it was a huge improvement over MKDA-MKA.

Cary Tagawa should voice the entire cast and anyone who disagrees is objectively wrong.

I seriously hated MKDC version of Shang Tsung, I generally never happen to be critical of his looks, he being one of my favorite fighters, but the childish, witless Tsung of MKDC was just repulsive. The hot chick-filled ending was a kind of redemption for his blandness, still... as was the fact that, for once, he defeated Liu Kang on his own (you'd think it was only ironic that the creators proclaimed the story non-canon).

Regarding the question, though, Cary is approximately the optimal choice (in any case they should look for an elderly actor), but still willing, too...?

Bruce Locke from the Conquest TV did a pretty awesome job,too. And he actually looked the part.

He was a terrible Shang Tsung IMO. HOWEVER, the recent Shang reminds me so much of him.

Locke was the best live action Tsung IMO. Looking the part goes a long way with me but I also prefer the sleazy, snakelike sound of his voice. Tagawa's is too deep for how I picture Shang.

As much as I love Cary as Shang, my preferred voice for him has always been Jim Cummings.

His voice always made me think he was gonna say "mmm Betty"... :/

ps-Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa was the main reason the 1st mortal kombat movie actually worked, without him that movie would of been total fail like the sequal was.

"They are mine... FOREVER!" I loved it when he said that line in Robin Shou's face. So much authority when he's losing a fight.

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa was an amazing Shang Tsung. He had the right amount of presence, the right amount of blood in his voice. He was calm, yet authoritative. Every word he spoke he enunciated with the right amount of evil and contempt.

"Treasure these moments... as if they were your last."
"Your brother's soul... is MINE. You will be NEXT!"
"You have been chosen, Sonya. Much to my... delight."
"It has begun!"
"Are you that eager to die?"
"I can see into your soul.... You... will... DIE!"

Every line was pitch-perfect. One of the things that immediately robbed the second movie of any class was Shao Kahn had none of that charisma or theatrical presence that Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa brought to the role.

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa reprising the role would be... well, an amazingly satisfying surprise. I'm sure he needs SOMETHING to do after "Johnny Tsunami".

He played Heihachi in the Tekken flick (which isn't actually as bad as everyone says. It's certainly better than your average video game flick, I'd go as far as to say almost on par with MK. And it's got the guy who's playing Scorpion in the Rebirth stuff as Kazuya, so you can check out his acting chops too.)

Here's what really gets me about him in that role...he looked the part, he grew a mustache. Which proves he CAN do it so where the fuck was Shang's most distinguishing physical feature, Cary? I DEMAND GOATEED JUSTICE!

Best character ever made...

Don't mean to ramble, but character portrayals were too off in that film for me to consider it even close to MK. Nina as a horny weakling? Christie as... something that's not even in any game? It's a good movie to watch if you're drunk, though.

Even by general cinematic standards, DOA pretty much takes a crap on it.
Tagawa might've been one of the few redeeming things about [Tekken], and even then, he didn't have a lot to work with. Heihachi could've been a meatier role! If you have any hopes for Ian Anthony Dale in these MK things, I'd avoid dashing them. Let the official goateed Scorpion wash over you as a stoic surprise.
