To the people complaining about Shang morphing. What the hell? Where have you people been?
Do you people also not want scorpion to use his spear or sub-zero to freeze?
Shape shifting is a signature characteristic of Shang, what certain people don't like though is the "Ninja" triborg handling he has received and it somewhat overshadowing him. His fatal blow is now just a ninja fan service fest instead of something more unique to Shang outside of him shape shifting. The guy can summon Kobra's from fire, why couldn't that have been his fatal blow or whatever these are called these days.
And on a personal level, just like with Triborg I don't like the insinuation that comes with this sort of treatment of the pallet swap characters implying that they aren't unique and are interchangeable.
In a perfect world they would have just allowed him to use the moves from the MK1 character roster. Let him do a Kano ball while morphing into Kano, a spear move ect.

Well, when Kitana had Mileena's Teleport move and Sai, everyone was complaining about it. But now most of the people think the morphing is great. sure, it is Shang's signature move but honestly... to morph into the ninja's who won't make it in MK11 is a little bit unlucky. Also to morph into a ninja to instantly perform a signature move from them is just uninspired. Just make it like in MK2 and give combinations to morph into another kharacter or just like you could see in the trailer into the kharacter you fight against it. And no BS with morphing into kharacters which aren't in MK11. This is just lame, sry.
So let me guess: Shang as a paid character (day1DLC) and his MKTM clotches for another $5.
Um...how exactly would Shang Tsung be "Day 1 DLC" when Mortal Kombat 11 has been out since April 23, and Shang Tsung doesn't come out until June 18th?
For me he's day1DLC because we knew he's coming long ago when the krypt movie came out. It's not like they made him afterwards. The model was ready, Cary Tagawa provided the voice, and now they only want to cash extra on him.
Supposedly, like Sektor, Shang was originally supposed to be base roster and even had a part in the story but was cut for unknown reasons according to the people who leaked all that info pre-launch. My thought is they cut and held the character once Tagawa came on board.
You really have to be a ninja fan to like this design, which I am so we're good to go.
I think his look is perfect, they really crafted this well by the looks of it. Too bad we have to wait weeks for him!!
I am pretty sure there will be a 2nd Kombat Pack with the rest of the list and perhaps more that we don't know about? Looks like MK11 could be updated into 2020.

@bug510 when you put it that way I suppose that's a pretty good point. Hadn't thought of it that way.
@KenshiMaster16 It had bothered me to no end to learn that Shang was not on the regular roster. After half the MKX arcade endings set up Shang's return, and with Shang's Island being a MAJOR plot point on MK11...I just couldn't wrap my head around his absence. If they did indeed hold out until Cary came on board, then that's both good and bad - good in the sense that we have a definitive version of Shang voiced and modeled after his most iconic portrayal in any form of media, but bad that they opted to cut him out of the main story to secure that.

I would take this any time over having him in the story. Story is 8 hours but you'll play the rest of the game for tenths, hundreds, some even thousands of hours. And we know how the story can be in MK. Something that happens now can be completely irrelevant in the next game, deaths don't matter since everyone gets resurrected at some point etc.
If they needed to cut Shang Tsung out of the story just so they can have Cary Tagawa playing him then that's the best decision they've made in history of the series. Imo...

I didn't know about this. And I also don't think they waited for Cary to voice Shang. My thoughts on this are that they knew he's in high demand just like Shao Kahn so they can cash extra on him be selling him separately. And knowing what has become of the economy of the game, they had nothing against the idea of series regulars on the DLC while the base roster is filled with rather bland characters.

Yeah, I have a feeling the morph is also just [ the execution of ] a special move and when the special move is over, morphing back to himself. Seemed to be especially obvious during his Rain morph, where he just stood there, waiting to be able to do that signature kick and morph back.
It's better than nothing I guess.
I think we have to wait for next generation of consoles before Shang Tsung regains his full morphing capabilities. (Going by the playstation Spiderman loading demo).

It's not technological limitations preventing them from giving him his proper morph. If I recall correctly it's because of games being disk based so it would make the game chug in order for it to get the proper data for Shang to morph into anyone from the roster because it has to load that info from a spinning disk where as when things were cartridge based it wasn't a problem.
As an older MK player I miss being able to morph into another character for a finisher ! It seems other than the pre programmed morphs like the ninjas shang can use soul steal and morph into his current opponent. At least have it so I can do my opponents finishers too !

It's not really because of solely the disc based thing, also the hard-drive (which also spins actually). Even if you buy on disc, most stuff these days is installed on the hard-drive. It is like you said, with cartridges that information is directly and immediatly accessable. So it is a technological limitation, that of the technology needing to spin in order to find the information (be it disc or hard-drive).
As "proven" with the recent next-gen PS5 Spiderman loading presentation, cartridge like access might be back in the future (SSD, although I don't really know what the access times of SSD are). With "hard-drives", usb-sticks, flashdrives and such advancing more and more, they should really be try to get back to "catridge" based storage for gaming.

That certainly would be nice to see things go back that way again. And thank you for enlightening me on the subject there seeing how I am often in the dark when it comes to the subject of tech.
I was going to raise the point that games depend less and less on the information on the disk these days because they are installed but again I wasn't sure how much the disk was still involved when it came to running the game seeing how the disk is still required to play the game.
