I mean, it's not like video games are meant to be played or anything. If you can't enjoy MK because of what the characters are wearing, that says a lot about who you are and what your priorities are.

It really annoys me when you guys assume that we only play Mortal Kombat for the sex appeal when we complain about the outfits in MK11. No we don't. I wouldn't even be playing Mortal Kombat in the first place, if that's the only thing I cared about. I've been watching TMK's videos for years, and he's been a huge Mortal Kombat fan since he was a kid. Why can't we like both the game itself and the fanservice? You're acting like it's one or the other.

Anyway, I don't think I'll be sticking around this site much, as I prefer Test Your Might. But threads like this are no longer allowed there, and I've been lurking this thread, so I thought I would weigh in on the matter here. I see a lot of good points made in here. I just wanted to add my own input and clarify a common misconception, like I did above.

Personally, I liked the MK9 outfits, but at the same time, I do understand them toning it down, since just about every female character had a bikini-like outfit in that game as their primary outfit. That's what they already did in MKX, and I didn't have a problem with that. But here, they've gone too far on the other end of the spectrum. I'm not sure why they couldn't have included such outfits as alternate outfits here, since each character has various outfits to choose from.

Revealing outfits are always nice, there needs no practicality in this game. Aesthetics are much of apart of a game as gameplay is. Like Johnny , Liu Kang, Jax, Shao Kahn, Kano, Geras, and Baraka (even Kung Laos revenant form has his tiddies out). People like to make the argument d’vorahs got all the skin showing or that “she’s nude” while I can’t argue that, but thats an exoskeleton, i’m talking more flesh like our more humanoid(with skin counterparts). And while Cetrion is probably the most revealing female character in this roster, I find that random seaweed strap between her breasts as a way to take away from her cleavage, and don’t get me started on those tacky metal-like plates to hide her thighs. Give me more lady thigh and maybe some midriff!(besides Sonya),Got all these guys showing off their chiseled bodies (geras fine AF, I see them shiny nipples).

Really though I’m Happy with Sonya’s and Jacquis designs, I feel Cassie was a missed mark but that’s just me. As for Kitana and Jade I love their designs! Except I do wish they had their older costumes like some of the males do (would love to see Jades alternate costume from MK deception. The one with the long ass twin pony tails and just a costume to give kitana more leg skin.) Skarlet Idk I feel she doesn’t need to be as heavily dressed as she is being as originally she absorbed blood through her skin, but I can say it’s slightly better than her MK9 design. Now that the game is out I hope they do bring some more revealing outfits through patches(DLC) not asking for skimpy but something with out all the thigh high or things conventiently hiding them.

Also, to note, most people are not complaining about the lack of sexy outfits in of themselves. It's the intent behind it. NRS completely went out of their way to cover up the women. Even the "MK2 outfit" for Kitana has her wearing pants, even though the game itself had her in a leotard with no pants. Also, hypocrisy, like saying "you aren't going to be showing so much skin in a fight", when many of the male characters are doing just that. Plus, it's often better to show some skin in fights, to allow for more swift movement. Apparently, NRS deems it more "respectable" to beat up and mutilate women than to put them in revealing outfits.

While this isn't quantifiable, I'm inclined to agree that the mechanical issues with the game are more likely to slow post-launch sales than the outfits. Anyone who wasn't buying the game because of costume design made that decision before launch.

I'm also gonna touch on the "Blame NRS" comment from a page ago. First off, thanks, I never would've guessed that the company who made the game, designed everything for it, and then virtue signaled to anyone that would listen was culpable. They deserve blame for the bad mechanics. They deserve blame for making the unlock grind insufferable. They deserve blame for towers being significantly overtuned. They deserve blame for the myriad of bugs that were present, some of which could be found within minutes of playtesting. As for the costumes, I'll put it like this: we're talking about a franchise that had to fight against censorship in its early years.
