- MK11 needs a better customization feature than Injustice 2. It was a good place to start but not good enough for a finalized product, imo.
- If the story is truly going to be about both timelines then all eras need to be represented. That means the 3D era needs some rep outside of the usual suspects of Quan Chi and Kenshi, maybe 2 or 3 others. Even the random and misc characters like Tremor and Skarlet need some representation.
- Again, if this is a timelines story and all eras will be glossed over then we need AT LEAST a 30 character roster at launch. They need to cover all the bases here. Im not expecting anything crazy like Armageddon levels of characters but a size large enough to represent all eras through the 25 years.

As far as customization, let's be real: licensing and approval processes likely got in the way of IJ2's designs. Can't go too far from the iconography of the comic book characters.
Since NRS created the MK gang, there's no telling what kind of crazy shit will make it in. This lets us have the ideas that otherwise would have never made it.
tl;dr Freedom of IP allows for greater customization potential.

Indeed.
I would also like to add into my previous post that I think a lot of the MK2 and MK3 staples should represent the DLC line up this time. That way some irregular characters get a main roster spot and people would be more inclined to buy a season pass if it included well known entities such as Kabal, Nightwolf, Baraka, Ermac, Sektor, ect.

Preach.
If the leaked roster is indeed true(there's a thread for it) then it holds every thing you mentioned. 31 default characters(Including Shao Kahn as pre-order) as well as some decent 3D representation(aside from Kenshi) from Fujin, Bo'Rai Cho, Li Mei, Frost, Sareena, and Onaga(who, according to the supposed leak, is the boss).
Like all I want is a good 5-6 solid 3D era characters who aren't Kenshi/Quan Chi and I'll be a happy camper. I really think this "leak" is accurate because it is so damn practical and logical, I really don't see how it couldn't be at least close to what the real roster will be. Especially for a game like this.
Not to mention the 3D era characters listed are all the characters from that era that NRS seems to like and were all featured in the MKX story mode in some fashion...

Absolutely. I am very much looking forward to Jan to see who all gets revealed and if there will be any 3D era faces in there.

If it's in Chicago, I'll take a look...or not. I plan to not look at any Fatalities or extensive gameplay until the release. Any tips for self control regarding hype? This and REmake2 ar ethe only things I lose my mind about.

This is what will make or break the game for me.
I'm tired of seeing the same old clash of MK 1 & 2 characters, and I'm tired of NRS making a bunch of new characters and then dumbing them. The final roster will determine whether or not I buy this game.

You're not kidding. I'm not pre-ordering a damn thing until I see a little bit more of the roster and if it's as bland and uninteresting as MKX's, then I'm going to have to sit this one out.
As I said in another thread- I really REALLY would love to be excited for Mortal Kombat again but there's a part of me deep down inside that fears when I see the roster- excitement is going to go back down the drain. I pray that's not the case.

Apparently, along with a new Shao Kahn render(located in the screen shot thread), the Italian GameStop leaked a little bit of info.
*translation jacked from TYM*
"Mortal Kombat is back and is more fit than ever in this new and fantastic evolution of the iconic title. Now you can customize the variants of your fighters down to the smallest detail, gaining unprecedented control over the aesthetics of the characters. The new graphic engine renders in the smallest details every crushed skull and torn heart, immersing yourself completely in the action of the most bloody scenes. In addition, the new list of fighters includes unpublished characters and the Klassics of the series, protagonists of fantastic movies in the story mode of the epic saga that has been going on for more than 25 years.
- New game engine, with even more bloody and bloody scenes
- New personalization system, with clothes, accessories and move sets never seen before
- New Fatality as well as a new GoreTech system to make the performances even more brutal
- Very strong multiplayer component, entirely oriented towards the esports: personalization systems, daily news, constantly updated rewards and an improved matchmaking
Additional Contents
The Premium Edition includes:
- Steelcase
- Kombat Pass: 6 characters & 6 Battlepass"

Six characters? I would get excited but knowing WB it'll probably be only 3 MK related characters and the rest will be guests. I hope not. I hope 4 at least are MK characters.

I’m a little confused with this honestly. Six characters? MKX had 9(with Goro), Injustice 2 had 10(with Darkseid). Maybe two packs this time around? And still not sure what the hell a battle pass is.

My main hope is that the story doesn't get reverted in any way, shape, or form. Don't undo progress. Some examples:
Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, all of those that died in the comics should stay dead. Death should actually have meaning. I can understand some characters like Jade, Smoke, Noob Saibot, Sindel, Nightwolf, Stryker, etc. coming back, but major villains should either stay dead or not be villains anymore, like Shang Tsung's MK9 ending, OR don't just kill them off in one game. If Shinnok wasn't decapitated I'd be fine with him coming back, but he has been defeated so now the story must progress.
Scorpion and Sub-Zero need to stay allies. Don't make them enemies again. That would suck. I'd LOVE to see them actually work together. Maybe see Shirai Ryu and Lin Kuei grow stronger and bond together. What if they joined together and made a new clan or something? Scorpion and Sub-Zero being in the same clan would be pretty neat, and if not, ANYTHING but making them rivals again. We did that already.
Lui Kang and Kitana should not become primary protagonists again. If they get resurrected or whatever, I wouldn't be the biggest fan, but it's better than making them the main stars again.

So hyped for this game and will purchase it no matter what only dilemma is buying the regular edition or premium edition. Australian PS store wants $144 for it so I need some more info before pre-ordering, be damned if I am paying that much extra for 6 characters when 3 of them are probably going to be shitty guest characters! Hopefully they release some of the roster prior to the January event
