The Nethrrealm is the afterlife, it's called a realm sure but it's obviously much different from a place like Edenia, Outworld or Earthrealm.
It's different, sure. But still just a realm. Like Outworld has power over "magic", Netherrealm has power over souls. It's different. but it's a realm.
that still doesn't excuse why the area we were shown in MKX isn't anymore. Because that is right outside Kotals'/Shao Kahns' palace which has always been depicted with the classic purple aesthetic.
Shao Kahn didn't conquer Outworld. He poisoned Onaga and then called himself emperor. Don't try and twist it around my dude, you know that's not what they meant when they wrote that line for Baraka. Someone screwed up.
Well, can't disagree on this. But still, the first is just cosmetics, it doesn't have any impact on the story.
The line of Baraka... Well, remember Kotal and his people. The story suggests they live in the Outworld. I know there is a portal in the comics from which Shao attacks. But it was never stated the portal is impossible to open within the same realm. So really proves nothing. And if Osh-Tek were separate and Shao still needed to conquer them, the same maybe with Tarkatans.
Now I stayed far away from the comics once I saw how disrespectful they were being to some of the 3D characters, but was Osh-Tek not a conqured realm which Shao Kahn merged with Outworld? That's kind of a different thing for Tarkatans'. I might have missed something in your post, I'm in a bit of a rush but like I said, Shao Kahn created the Tarkatans'. They were his lap dogs.

While Shao created the Tarkatans as we know them, this merely suggests a backstory for the Outworld inhabitants Shao mixed with demons. Maybe he only used people of the previously conquered Tarkata realm for his Tarkatan warriors. Maybe they already were a nomadic warrior race with a power/dominance/subjigation heirarchy like Klingons/Saiyans, and Shao made them into something shiny & new. It doesn't exactly contradict any established lore.
I'm sure FistfulOfDatas knows more than any of us about Lore...

Sounds like a bit of a stretch. We've seen what the natives of Outworld look like. Li Mei is one of them. And even if that were the case which, I have never seen anything even mildly suggest that in any lore notes or bios so I'm going to go with no, they still wouldn't be Tarkatans' so that line still wouldn't make sense.
I don't know why you guys are fighting me on this one, everything you need to know is right there, spelled out for you in the text from the games. They clearly screwed up in MKX. That's it.
but was Osh-Tek not a conqured realm which Shao Kahn merged with Outworld?
That's what I also thought. But then I've argued with one guy about it and I couldn't find any prove, the comics are vague on that. The only prove of them being from another realm is that portal on literally one page and still - there is no prove the portal can't be used within one realm.

We are not. I actually believe you are right on this and somebody just screwed up with this line. But still - this is just one line. We are just trying to find workarounds that wouldn't damage the lore, that's all. I am trying to say this is much lesser evil than SEVERAL retconned characters, if the retcon will still be present in the final game, of course.
Osh-tekk used to be an indipendent realm nicknamed "the golden rule" (basically mk version of El Dorado), with its own people, culture and royal family.
Shao Kahn needed Goro's help.
Rather it would seem to me that Arnyek is a enclave of Outworld because it is just a island.
About that Baraka sentence it is is taken out of context.
Baraka replies to D'Vorah when she asks him why he is still loyal to Mileena. The point of that reply is that Baraka recognize strength and power as the only hierarchy he will ever accept, which is perfectly in line with the lore, considering that Tarkatas chose their chief according to his strength
Maybe in the long forgotten past Shao Kahn conquered a realm settled by the first Tarkatans, then they become nomadic, pretty much like Roma people in real life they are considered gypsies and wonderers, but they used to have a land near Egypt.
I'm sure FistfulOfDatas knows more than any of us about Lore...

You know, this actually took me a minute. At first I was like, "well that's flattering I suppose but I'm not sure why he thinks I know everything about the lore- oh, wait...". XD
Good one. I found it to be quite amusing, sir.

Look up more recent MK11 intro vids, I'm fairly certain Baraka mentions Tarkata as both a realm, and tribe of peoples a few different times/ways. I'm also pretty sure Osh-Tekk was an independent realm, like Edenia/Earth are/were.
Realm, and dimension are both just words to describe a defined/designated area/space. State, territory, province, nation, country, region, etc...

You know, I think the only way I can tolerate the way their stories are being told is if I mentally separate the entire series into two independent stories: Pre-Armageddon and Post-Armageddon.
I'm just going to have to assume the newer games' lore - Post-Armageddon - goes no farther back than MK9, and just perceive things from there onward.

The Midway timeline / era, and the NRS timeline / era.

Safest way to play it, but some times you just can't help but get your blood boiled when what's being offered now to represent something you loved to a new audience is vastly inferior or is inaccurate.
See got me again haha, damn it.
It would at least help if they were consistent with their new rules. Revenants are still a big issue.
