Mortal Kombat 11 may have concluded its run of add-on content, but that hasn't stopped it becoming one of the biggest installments in the long running franchise! Warner Brothers Games issued a press release to celebrate a major sales milestone and thank fans for their continued support. Read on for details:
According to the WB Games announcement: the game has now sold more than 12 million units worldwide since its release in April, 2019. This has contributed to a total 73 million video game units for the entire life of the legendary series, and brought MK11 close to surpassing Mortal Kombat X as the series' highest selling chapter!
In addition to the recent console success, Mortal Kombat Mobile has reached a staggering 138 million installs on phones and mobile devices. The free-to-play app has become an industry unto its own, continuing a highly profitable model that offers new playable characters such as the recent addition of MK11's Fire God Liu Kang and MK11 Ultimate's Rain.
Series co-creator and NetherRealm Studios Creative DIrector Ed Boon offered his appreciation for die hards like the MK Online kommunity, quoted as saying: "We have some of the most passionate fans in the world and we appreciate the support they have shown us over the years." He also tweeted about the announcement, adding "[W]e wanted to send a massive THANK YOU to all the support Mortal Kombat fans have given us over the years. It means EVERYTHING to us."

Mortal Kombat 11 drastically extended its lifespan with the release of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath last May, introducing klassic playable characters and adding to the time bending storyline with an entirely new five chapter story mode. It was brought onto a new generation of console hardware in November with the release of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, which also offered Kombat Pack 2 and the final inclusion of three characters.
NetherRealm Studios have confirmed production on an unannounced new game, but kombat will continue as soon as next month when animated adaptation Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms is released to blu-ray and streaming.
