The final fighter in Mortal Kombat 1's first wave of DLC is scheduled to arrive next month, but the first official look at Takeda is already upon us! The whip-wielding warrior clashes with Kuai Liang in a tasty teaser that pits the young fighter against MK1's unlikely Scorpion for a dazzling demonstration of moves. Take a look:
The 18 second teaser was posted to X [formerly Twitter] by NetherRealm Studios Chief Creative Officer Ed Boon to preview the final inclusion in the MK1 Kombat Pack. Takeda is scheduled for early access July 23rd after a recent delay rescheduled kameo fighter Ferra for the same date.

So far...
Here's a quick taste of what to expect with Takeda.
We look forward to supporting #MK1 far beyond this... and would love to get some feedback from the community.... pic.twitter.com/hVUv24vPBa
It will have been roughly ten months since the release of Mortal Kombat 1 when Takeda touches down, but Boon's tease comes with a guarantee that there is still much more to come from the game. This is in keeping with an expectation that MK1 will have the longest support cycle of any NetherRealm game, with additional DLC story and a big surprise still to come.
In the spirit of continued support and refinement of Mortal Kombat 1, Boon has also polled fans on prospective updates to the game. The developer solicited five fighters who 'need the most love', garnering popular suggestions such as Sub-Zero and Shang Tsung. He also asked for five kameos to buff, and polled preferences for Kameo updates. With 14,762 votes counted, more Kameo Fighters leads with 39.7%, ahead of more Ambush Moves (35%), and more Special Moves (25.3%).

Chronal anomalies still leave questions about the exact identity of the upcoming character, with Mortal Kombat 1's new timeline replacing the reality that birthed Takahashi Takeda as the son of Kenshi. It seems all bets are off in a game that switched the erstwhile Sub-Zero & Scorpion, and introduced a gender-swapped alternate-reality Johnny Cage.
One thing is clear from the teaser: this Takeda can still crack the whip. What do you think of the upcoming addition to MK1? What would you like to see from future updates? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below and go deeper into discussion in the Mortal Kombat 1 category.
