Im not exactly sure how true this is, but I once read (Im sure it was an interview with Marjean Holden aka MKA's Sheeva, I cant remember where it was sadly) that Sheeva was originally supposed to have two fight scenes in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

The reason the scene were rewritten and omitted were because it would have cost $1.5million for all the retakes and effects that needed to be done on Sheeva to get her arms in, moving effectively etc.

Yes, I've read this too. I believe it was in an old online interview with the Sheeva actress, like a fight night set up, just with her. I didn't know the specifics about the scripted fights though, interesting.

Great post, I'll respond to more (I'll try to get an MKC / MKMSZ chicks look-a-like pic up) soonwink

i don't know if these have been stated before in this thread but ...

I am not a big Tsung fan or a scorpion fan but for these characters in the movies these things happened:

Shang Tsung
Isn't it obvious he used his soul suck fatality duh sleep sleep sleep

Scorpion
1 - He used teleport in both movies but i don't know if he actually did teleport punch.
2 - He used his Toastie fatality on Cage before Cage did his Friendship.

... oh and because I am a Sub-Zero fan

Sub-Zero
1 - In first movie, did radical unnamed fatality.
2 - In second movie did some jump freeze move and made a bridge out of ice.

I'd never noticed before, but you may be right. The move he does kinda resembles his MK1/2 fatality, though done with the stick. I'll add it to the list, good spot.

The fatalities in the movies are more like moves in the game.
There also should have been more blood

In MKA, the same death animation for Rain was also used for Baraka.

And these are all pretty good facts. I guess there is still more things to discover about the movies/other Threshold MK media to learn!

This is an amazing post! I absolutely love it smile I learned much and had reassurances that I'm not just crazy in thinking that those were statues of Centaurs!

Now my point:

I am not sure if this is true or not, but the actors that played Shang Tsung and Liu Kang are father and son in real life?

The first actress to play Sonya was a minor character on Saved by the Bell amongst various female characters in movies.

The black opponent of Liu Kang from the first movie has many of his own martial arts DVDs, and he was on a very short lived show called WMAC Masters (World Martial Arts Council Masters). He was Hakeem the Machine. The show was basically set up like Mortal Kombat only similar to wrestling, with matches and after 10 match wins they would get a shot at the champion.

Does anyone remember seeing TBS's episode of Dinner and a Movie where they showed Annihilation with the actress that played Sindel? She was not there for the entire thing, just the last hour.

Finally I am definately saddened by the fact the actor that played Kano is dead. I remember him as a boxer, and I remember him doing interviews, he was funny, and quite sleazy.

Sitebender, you made a good point. Hakim Alston, who you mentioned as Hakim the Machine, was a part of WMAC Masters - as was Chris Casamassa (Scorpion) who played the character Red Dragon. That was one of my first thoughts when seeing the MK movie for the first time as I had recognized Hakim from seeing him on TV.

A pimped out website? Sounds like you've been on myspace too long. Pimped out actually means you loan it to someone, not make it better.

As for Hakim / Hakeem. For us here in Chicago, WMAC masters came out right after the Mortal Kombat movie, then last year it started to make the rounds again. The same two seasons as they originally aired.

About Chris Casamassa, that name absolutely rings a bell. When the MK movie came out, Fox News even did a piece on him, because he lived here in Chicago. He was a cop at the time and a chip & dales dancer if I remember correctly.

Since several posts have been made regarding differences between the novels (which were written based on the screenplays) and the actual movies, I thought I'd post info of differences where they vary ... (as for my proof... its taken directly from the novels)

MK1
*Many scenes involve a Jax subplot as he tracks down clues to Sonya's whereabouts... he eventually arrives at the Temple of Light and waits for the heroes at the end of the movie. Also, in the night club, several goons go after Sonya, but Jax cracks their skulls together, saying "Gotcha"

*Art Lean has more scenes detailing his invitation, attacks from other rascist fighters, and a fight scene. Also a scene showing the Shadow Priests burying him beneath a statue of him is done ... making the connection that the Statue Garden is actually a cemetary.

*There were to be many types of alien races from other realms in the tournament... The grand hall was supposed to be HUGE, and contain hundreds of warriors.

*Scorpion has a demonstration of his abilities on a guard after Sub-Zero does his. He spears the guard and then uppercuts him.

*Sonya is to fight Jade, but when Jade bows, Sonya boots her in the face, knocking her out (Jade is described as an asian woman with a silk dress with tattoos of dragons and tigers on her. He wields two crescent moon daggers)

*Sonya does not kill Kano... Liu explains that Shang would own her if she does, which she says "No one owns me" and just knocks him out.

*There is no Reptile vs Liu Kang fight... Reptile is sucked into the statue and consumed.

*Shao Kahn does not show up at the end. Kano is arrested by Jax and Sonya, and Liu Kang goes to Outworld with Kitana.

MKA

*There is a huge fight between Shao Kahn's generals and the earth warriors. This prompts Raiden to stop them and claim that only Raiden and Shao Kahn and determine the outcome... then they fight.

*Baraka is also a general for Shao Kahn and has a large role in the story. There are several scenes with him, including one where he beats up an earth slave.

*There are scenes that show that shao kahn has enslaved people from earth... they work in his cobalt mines.

*Shao Kahn nights some horrific Nightmare with wings instead of a horse.

*The smoke fight is combined with Mileena vs Sonya ... Jax is also present (Liu and Kitana only fight foot soldiers, which sub-zero freezes them all) ... also, there is no scorpion fight. he merely enters and then wraps his spear around kitana, teleporting away.

*Sheeva does indeed fight Liu to which Raiden stops and cuts in... they fight. Raiden also curses in this movie once he becomes human. During this fight, Sheeva comments something like .."you can't beat me... you are powerless" to which Raiden says back, "knowledge is power.... and I know I can beat a b**** like you!" He knocks her off a balcany and she hits the pavement outside (kinda like the Pit II).

*There were more scenes in the hospital where Jax is. Sonya sneaks past Cyrax who has a guard captured in a net. He thentightens the net, crushing the man. Cyrax is then seen going down the hall with Jax's file in his hand.

*Shao Kahn's forces have sci-fi weapons. Plasma guns are described, as well as pulse blades and weapons similar to the Tekujin's weapons.

*Rain is never mentioned in the novel by name, but they do have the same scene, only describing a "masked warrior" killed by Kahn.

*the Elder gods are described very similar to MK4, and have a similar temple.

*Kahn is killed when the realms separate... he is torn apart.

*There are more scenes of Nightwolf and he has more meaningful dialogue... he is described as a young man with his same vest, but wearing blue jeans, snake-skin boots, and a Stone Temple Pilots shirt... sunglasses hang off it. He has a similar attitude as in the movie. Liu questions his wisdom since they appear to both be the same age. "This body is young, but the soul that inhabits it is far older" or something like that.

*There are many other differences... all in all, its got the same plot, but many scenes are rearranged, go more indepth, or just have better scenes replacing them. If you want my opinion, after reading the novel, I would have rather seen this version (but this version would have cost at least $50 million to make.... it is more on a grand scale than what the movie was able to do).

I heard Liu Kang was originally going to fight Sektor instead of Smoke in MK Anihiliation...is this true?

Also, I think I saw the actor that played Art Lean in MK: Conquest. You can see him for a brief moment in one of the episodes, buying something from Kung Lao at the trading post. I think it's the episode where Quan Chi and Mika are disguised as Siro and Taja.

in defenders of the realm,Quan Chi uses black magic to put earthrealm heroes one against each other.
he do the same thing also in mortal kombat CONQUEST!!!

Of course in MKA, alot of characters were not played as they should have such as Jade being a asian woman and evil without any connection to Kitana....

In MKC Episode 12 I belive, this is an episode that gives a different origin for Mileena than it does in the game. In Conquest, Mileena was a hideous outworld warrior/ killer. Shao Kahn gave Mileena Kitana's face so she could get close to Kung Lao and kill him. Kitana however arrives just in time and confronts Mileena which leads to a brief fight scene. As punisment for not killing Kung Lao, Shao Kahn takes away Mileena's beauty. She still looks like Kitana, but keeps her ugly teeth that she is known for. Shao Kahn throws Mileena her trademark mask to cover her teeth.

Early scripts (and an early budget that was too low) called for Kano to have an eyepatch....viewer reaction was something like, "That's not Kano!" and they went and invested more money so he can have the proper metal plate with infrared eye.
