Rereading it again, still picking up on a few things here and there:

-dat fucking X-ray. I love that they found a way to sneak it in there. He took that arrow almost to the knee, too. :)

-I love the fact that the scar on the henchman actually looks fresh, as it should. Mad props to the artist.

-Scorpion's harpoon on the cover and in the actual comic is different. The cover version has a more elaborate design with those little wings on the sides, but the one he uses in the comic is just a kunai on a ring. Maybe that's deliberate, we'll see.

-While we're nitpicking continuity hangups, Suchin's weapon seems to transform from a kitchen knife to a wakizashi between the frames.

-I'm mostly likely being Captain Obvious here, but notice how Sub's eyes and seemingly even his scar start glowing after Kano cuts him. Whatever the Kamidogu Curse might be, he's got it now.

-Hsu Hao gets all of two minutes of screentime, and even in those two minutes they gave him something cool to do. Kenshi lobs his katana straight at his heart, and the fucker VAPORIZES it before it can even reach him.

-Remember the little facial tattoo of the stars from the Chinese flag that Hsu Hao had in his original MKDA concept art?

Look at page 19.

HE FUCKING HAS THOSE STARS. He didn't even end up having them in the final game, but that's how deep into the lore they went.

Nice catch! That is some awesome attention to detail. I wonder what other obscure things are going to be hidden across the series. I'm really glad this is being done with love and not purely for a paycheck.

Also, I think Casselman may be on to something. They really went out of their way to draw the distinction between Hanzo and Scorpion...I actually kind of like the idea of Scorpion being more of a "stain" on the soul, as opposed to a hulked out Hanzo.

Everything I am reading here is amazing. I cannot wait to read this comic for myself. I am waiting for the full issue in print next Wednesday, which also happens to be my birthday appropriately enough(holy shit, 27!).

Scorpion does have normal eyes again and that's a pretty big deal

I don't know whether to be more excited about the return of Scorpion's human side or the fact that my wish for him to rebuild the Shirai Ryu has come true.

True, he did have normal eyes for the most part. I did notice right after the panel where he says "final warning" they show a close up of his eyes and they are whited out again and appear to be glowing.

This is key. It's proof he is still a wraith but he has full control over it. In previous games it had consumed him.

Will Kung Lao be in the comics too?

Any word on Liu?

I like that. I wouldn't have cared for it if they just made him straight up human again without his spectre/wraith/demon powers.

By the way, I'd love for the human Hanzo to be an alt for Scorpion in the game but I have my doubts because the design in the new comic is not from NRS but from the comic book artist. Maybe a Hanzo skin will be available at some point down the line as DLC?

This is a great "roll call" chapter. Major players are present (hey Kano!) and the new, hip generation is introduced (hey Takeda!)

Takeda: I think he is definitely a new playable character. Part of the class of 2015 along with Cassie. It seems like he may have 2 father figures - Kenshi and Hanzo (bye Scorpion!). It looks as though he will become Hanzo's apprentice.; I just hope he doesn't adopt any of Hanzo's abilities or unique characteristics. I want him to have his own shit.

Kenshi: He's been cool since MK5, but I've never gravitated to him. I do respect him though. Does anyone think he'll be playable? I don't care either way, but if he is, that's fine - he has cool offspring.

Hanzo: Finally a take on Scorpion that I am actually interested in. He rebuilt his clan from the sole survivors of the Netherrealm War - so intriguing! Tell me more, Hanzo. Who do you have up in that clan?

Kano: Currently, the first person I will main in MKX. My dude is looking good as always and already slicing bitches up in true Kano style. He's even made the cover of issue 4! He's winning.

I liked it.

I really dig the art style, more than I thought I would.

It's the first issue(or 1/3 of an issue) and you can't judge it yet.

Exactly and I am really happy about that :) I think this will make him more interesting, because im willing to bet that even though he has learned to control/conquer it, he could still be prone to losing control at times, like if something happens to trigger his anger/rage EX: His clan being massacred again or something like that.

For some reason, I can picture Scorpion trying to live a normal life as a human, keeping the vengeful, raging specter in him under control while say, holding a part-time job at McDonald's in order to pay rent.

Just read through it a second time. God, this is setting up some great stuff. Sub, Scorpion, Kenshi, the Red Dragon, even the Kamidogu....
