So Kunglaodoesntsuck and I just discussed this...
In the news post it says:
"Similar to Injustice; Mortal Kombat X will tell the story before the video game."
So the comic will be a prequal, right? Well, in the announcement link that skyboy posted it says:
"The story takes place 25 years after the events of 2011's "Mortal Kombat" relaunch game."
Which doesn't make any sense to me. NRS have always said that the game's story will take place just after MK9 ended, and then span over 25 years. So the comic simply CANNOT be a prequal story AND take place 25 years AFTER MK9.
We agree on that, right? Well, which one is it then?

It's probably just a mix-up of information. If it is indeed a prequel to MKX, it'll take place right after MK9. The writer of that article more than likely made a mistake.

Not happening.
Ed Boon answered a tweet saying that the boots are a mixture of 3 old and 3 new.

No one thinks that is the edge of the stage? It may be a cape, but it could very well be a cliff or another part of the stage. Ed is messing with our brains. He WANTS us to believe it's a cape...or does he want us to think that he is messing with us, leading everyone to believe it's the stage, when it really IS a cape?!

Interesting. I don't read comics, but good to see the brand entering this market again. Yay for fleshing out the MK Universe!
Potentially-new-character-dude is....eh. I'm not really digging his design. But if he can create multiples of himself, that might be fun to tinker with.

Haven't been keeping up with all the updates, but from what I remember is that the story does take place 25 years after mk9, but flashes back to different points during that 25 year span throughout the story.

Yeah I think we'll find out what happened right after MK9 but the action probably picks up at 5 years laterJaded-Raven Wrote:

It appears there will be many villains in MKX?
Kassondrya Blade Carlton Cage will have to clean up all the mess! Save Earthrealm.

I actually prefer when the let's player is commenting. Makes it more entertaining. :P
I will look up Game Informer then. The one I found was quite low quality.

We'll see. That's just your standard promotion talk right there. No publisher or developer is going to promote their game with "We have bad netcode." I remember them giving us the same 'netcode is super important, so we'll make sure it's the best' speech during the announcements for MK9 and Injustice, and while Injustice's wasn't too bad, MK9's netcode sure left a bad taste in my mouth.
Also, that Red Dragon 'minion' reminds me of Nightwing, what with the sparkly batons and all... and since NRS is a fan of recycling stuff, chances are we might actually see that one in the game.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any LPs out there where they remember to find all the hidden bossfights like Ermac and Mileena or do the Smoke challenges.

A) Injustice proves they're improving, and B) Gamespy is dead now.

Injustice has been incredibly successful sales-wise.
It remains to be seen if there's as much of an audience for this as there is for a weekly comic about Superman turning evil and killing everybody. If there is, I'm sure this could go on for several years...
...but I don't think I'm alone in preferring if the comic had been one that starts from the beginning and tells a complete story, delving into backstories and retelling Shang's tournament and all that stuff, perhaps under its own continuity, as opposed to one that only ties into the most recent game. And that comic, we're unlikely to get any time soon.
That's the Injustice comic's greatest strength, I think. It doesn't retell the game's Story Mode and it's not set after the game's Story Mode so that you have to have played the game to understand everything that's happened, it's set long BEFORE the game and is all about showing in realtime all the backstory that the game only hinted at.

I agree with this 100%!! What I've been screaming for since the WB purchase of MK is a "MKU" LINE of titles. It could tell the updated CANON origins of characters. We should even get a title called "MortaL Kombat Origins" that would tell the origins of some of the more obscure characters, much like DC's Villain Month last year. Maybe we'll get some expansion if the sales are good ;)

This is the greatest thing for fans who want closure from their favorite characters. Instead of being left in the dark, we will get some sort of understanding of what happened.
Example? I was worried that Subzero might just off Sektor and it would never be shown until he shows up and is the new grandmaster of the Lin Kuei. Now? I'm absolutely certain it will be shown in some form.
A prequel comic is perfect for bridging the gap between our old MK and the future of the franchise.

Let's get not ahead of ourselves.
I too do hope that new line of MK comic books will be very succesful and, as the time goes, will branch in several titles, but as of now, it would be better to wait until first few issues to measure quality of the story.
