Damn someone beat me to the punch!

In many ways it's great to hear the film will be released to both home and theaters.

It's definitely going to be interesting how this plays out. If I recall, "Mulan" performed nowhere near what Disney had hoped but Disney was originally wanting like $30 for the film which is now free on Disney+. Although Trolls: World Tour was a success in the "home theatrical release" market.

I don't have a subscription to HBOMax but with a lot of good titles announced for it I'm definitely considering it.

Could this kill a dying industry? Will movies be less interesting not having seen them on the big screen first? Very possibly. Which means without the glitz the big screen provides, the movie industry isn't looking so shabby. Guess we have to hope for a "Netflix series" of Mortal Kombat. In many ways the video games cinematic story modes have replaced the need for live-action Mortal Kombat films anyway.

I suppose it makes too much sense to release a teaser or trailer to get the marketing and hype up...

I'd want to relive the the experience from 4th grade when I saw MK in the theater for the first time.

I didn't say I'd watch it in theaters, because I won't. I won't subscribe to that crappy service, either. I'll rent it once that's an option, instead. I AM worried the movie will suck, though.

That's fantastic. So you'll be one of the reasons if it bombs at the box office when they look to see how well it performed on its opening week.

Seriously, do you shy away from EVERY movie you're worried will suck? Do you even care of it sucks or do you just go see it? Or is this just because it's Mortal Kombat? I'm sure you've seen plenty of crap movies at the theater... yet your view contributed to the success, if any, it had.

Definitely watching it on HBO Max. May hit in theaters. I see multiple movies a day to save on concussions so it depends what else is playing with it when I go.

It's funny, in my area it seems like people have given up on caring about the pandemic. I guess are local government isn't really advising against it despite the ever rising number of cases. I would love to go to the movies and see this, but it just seems irresponsible. Might be forced to watch it on HBO max. Or maybe a super late screening where the theater is more likely going to be sparsely populated.

Still really wish they would show us something about this movie aside from the logo. We haven't seen what any characters look like yet. Even with reshoots I would've expected something by now.

Really looking forward to the new movie, so I'm very happy I'll be able to watch it from home with pizza and beer the moment it comes out. Would prefer the cinema but that's a rip-off regardless these days so don't enjoy supporting it anymore anyway.

Not sure why so many people have to be pessimistic about the new movie though; yes there's been curious rumours about its plot and characters, but I won't make any judgements until I see it. We've had numerous different live-action representations of Mortal Kombat in the past, from the 95 movie to Annihilation to Mythologies' live action FMV, to Conquest, Rebirth and Legacy. All were widely different to varying degrees of success, but all have been enjoyable in different ways (yes, strangely, even Annihilation, in that so-appalling-it's-hilarious way - and come on, there's no way this new one could be worse than Annihilation). Glad at least something, no matter how small, has been announced about it and we got a title card, was scared of it going the way of Legacy Season 3: Generations X and being shelved forever. We as fans should just be excited that we're even getting something new and make our decisions after we see it instead of downplaying it without ever having seen even a single sequence from it yet.

Don't really like the updated logo though. Whilst it may have been slightly sacrilegious to have altered the logo in the first place, I appreciated they were going for their own gritty and minimal reboot spin on it. This however looks very cheap and tacky computer art.

Yes the logo definitely is very computery and cheap. I suspect that will be the whole description of the film - computery and cheap. I'm glad they did return to the faithful Dragon logo because even though the sea snake is accurate we'd never seen it marketed as a logo and it didn't really sit well with many of us.

Despite being cheap and computery - and too reminiscent of the shitty Legacy logos which means this is probably a WB decision - it's a wanted addition and hyperpole for what likely will divide this already toxic fan community.

At least we have Scorpion's Revenge to fall back on. Loved that MK finally went anime and I wish they'd explore that medium a lot more. There's only so much you can fit into a live-action film and the current trend of turning everything into a multi-season web series ala Netflix has really grown on me. But for MK, we definitely need it to go anime so we can see the worlds envisioned properly and as they should be, so we're not watching the film and saying, "Oh that's what Australia looks like. Wish it were back in Thailand."

I think there is a way this could be worse than Annihilation. As bad as Annihilation was, it is far from the worst videogame movie adaptation ever, and it at least followed the basic plot of MK3.

I wouldn't say I'm overly pessimistic about the movie, but my expectations are kind of low because there is a lot of information suggesting that this is more loosely based on the games, and that is not what I want out of an MK movie. If this movie really does star an OC and changes a lot about the characters I like, then it may not objectively worse than Annihilation, but it will be a worse MK movie in my opinion.

That being said, if I go in with the expectation that this movie isnt gonna be very good, I'll probably be able to enjoy it for what it is. And hey, if I'm wrong and it is good, I'll be happy.

I'll watch it regardless, but I am nervous it'll suck. I've never really went to theaters, so I doubt I would've went for this, either. The last movie I saw in theaters was the first Captain America.

Don't know if they're still offering this, but Best Buy was including a free two week trial membership to HBO Max when you purchased select titles. I bought Watchmen (the limited series) and got it. It expires in March 2021 so I believe it would cover the release of MK.

I can just about guarantee that you will be required to pay a premium to watch the movie as a first release much like how Disney+ did to Mulan. You'll end up waiting months to watch it "free" with your HBO Trash subscription.

MK in theather in 1995 was a great experience that I will never forget.
