So is this like Shao Kahn's decoy or something? Because that is not what a realm conquering monster is supposed to look like.

Baby mileena was creepy as hell.
Kitana got nothing really, maybe next episode. I saw Baraka once and than his clone I couldn't tell which one he is. He was also an Orc?? I wish they had a bigger budget.

I'm sure the budget will be bigger for the next season, it is kinda impossible to expect alot from a 2 million buck budget for a series of 10 minute webisodes.

Pros: Portrayal of Mileena with emotions.. Good job. Overall storyline explanation.. good job. I think they did alright with the set, considering their budget.
Cons: Shao Kahn, whether they gave him a mask or not.. Is not EVIL enough. This guy was the head honcho of all bad guys in the MK universe for the first three games, and they actually made him SENSITIVE!! I know that giving him these feelings of "love" for Sindel and Kitana makes him more relatable, but c'mon.. Give those traits to someone else, not the Emperor of Outworld!! Also, he looks completely human, and normal. I understand if they couldn't give him a mask, but they could have given him SOMETHING. He looks far too normal, too easy going. Also, Shang Tsung looks like a 12 year old boy who is 4'9''.
Final Verdict: Now I know I critisized this a lot, but I AM A FAN. I like the show, and I want this director to make a movie.. and if they make a few changes.. (maybe Shao Kahn gets injured and dons the helmet) this show/ movie can be great.

Didnt really like it. Way too different from the last 3 eps. It's almost as if it was a different director that worked on it.

Some real glimmers or something interesting in this episode, but there's just that fundamental lack of confidence. It all feels very borrowed, with an aesthetic approach that seems to be designed to bleed interesting points of difference out of the concept. It was nice to see a time using narrative, to get some pretty cool visuals and interesting animated sequences, but it all fell into a place I'm just not interested in. Washed out, borrowed aesthetics, too generic to live up to the colour and vigor of the source material.
There have been undeniable fundamental improvements from the first two episodes, but the common thread is a total lack of confidence and a limited sense of vision. Nice enough, but not something I'm interested in investing in. I certainly don't think I'd get a lot out of a feature length version.
Looking forward to seeing the next crop of characters, though.
It's nice that there is at least a superficial sense of variety in the episodes. After a shakey start, they're making it worth coming back to see how each chapter is approached. Looking forward to the Scorpion/Sub-Zero chapter(s). As played out as those two characters tend to be, the preview for those episodes is the most promising.

I get the feeling that Scorpy and Subbie will be the season finale, just because they're so played out and such, lol.

You forget that this episode is in the PAST. The tournament has not begun. Kano, Jax, and Sonya do not exist in this time. This is a backstory for Mileena and Kitana. Didnt really like it. Way too different from the last 3 eps. It's almost as if it was a different director that worked on it.
This is also OUTWORLD, not Earth. Of course it'll look different. This is all flashbacks that will lead to the present.

"We live in Outworld, shit happens" is a terrible explanation if your whole objective is "Keep Kitana from growing suspicious of her non-identical identical twin".

I liked the visual style. Edenia and Outworld are magical places, pretty different from the essentially true to life Earth we've seen in the first three episodes. So a different, more whimsical, style works, I think.

Hey, this was good. Of course the Special effects weren't great, there's not a lot of budget. I'd rather see this than a big city that represented Edenia.
Baraka looked a lot better than he did in the pictures, but wtf is with this "Decoy" king Jerrod nonsense? And what's the point of Mileena being able to hide her awful face? And why didn't Kahn have a skull helmet at all in this entire video? Other than that, though, great episode, and don't be mad about the special effects, people.

Weakest Episode so far IMO.
I have pretty much the same complaints as most do.
*Touchy, feely Shao Kahn who I don't accept as the effin' Emperor of Outworld.
*Frail Sindel
*Teen Tsung
*Baraka looks like he just came from the LOTR set. It's uncanny.
*Overall cheapish look to everything.

I honestly don't see a problem with this episode at all. It's blown the other episodes out of the water and if anything it actually genuinely does feel like it's related to Mortal Kombat. It almost makes the other episodes seem like they're apart of another show entirely.
First, in regards to Shao Khan, he's hardly going to wear a big fucking skull mask when he's trying to win over the affections of a heartbroken Queen now is he? Bit of cop on required there lads, last I checked Skull Helmets aint sexy to mourning widowers. If he's fallen in love with her your hardly going to see him being the nasty and cold son of a bitch we know him to be, especially not in the scenes where he's around Sindel. He's conquered her realm, now he wants to conquer her heart. Fear and brutality are hardly going to push her into his arms now are they?
In regards to his skull mask, I'm confident he'll wear it in later episodes but I honestly doubt the director (who is a fellow MK fan) would skip over something so iconic and leave it out, not when he's already been so faithful to other characters portrayals like Jax, Sonya and Johnny Cage. You're all way too quick to dismiss him despite the fact he's delivered consistantly on such a small budget.
Second, they were spot on with Sindel. She's portrayed as being a young, beautiful mother (possibly around Kitana's age in the current games) who was obviously unprepared for the invasion. You can see it that her priority is to protect and calm her child in this episode, not to risk Kitana's life further by directly assaulting an armed Tarkatan warrior while she herself is wearing a fucking ball gown and is unarmed. Obviously she's going to be fearful and run, if anything it's the logical thing for her to do in that scenario because actively defending Kitana would result in her being outmatched in a heartbeat.
And for her suicide? It's perfectly acceptable to me. She's mourning her husband, her fallen realm, her forced marriage to it's conquerer and with the creation of Mileena she's also worried her child will also fall to Khan's influence. At least this method of suicide will actually contribute to how Kitana manages to retain some degree of purity and nobility despite Khan raising her, likewise it'll make her discovery about her past all the more intriguing. To me this is exactly what I invisioned of Sindel when I first heard her story back in MK3, and it's nice to see the Queen of such a noble, dignified realm actually looking the part and wearing something that's not made of belts or a leotard.
I'm proud to be a Mileena fan after watching that. So fucking proud. This is exactly how she should be portrayed, she's not this brain dead sex pot with nasty teeth and I actually love how she actually struggles with her bestial side. It's already left me with the impression that perhaps she's jealous of Kitana for not having to deal with an issue like that, and it gives plenty of room for her to be jealous and resentful of her "perfect" sister. I only hope Boon and Vogel see this and say to themselves "Fuck. We really should have approached Kitana's chapter and Mileena's origins from that perspective". Next time people are praising sex appeal and skimpy clothing in Mortal Kombat, compare this webseries version of Mileena to the current version we have now and realise how detrimental it was to her character. This version here is already a million times more interesting than her videogame incarnation, and that's coming from a thoroughbred Mileena Fan.
As for the animation? I loved it! Reminded me a lot of Kill Bill Volume 1, and I like the fact that it's stayed true to what's been visually established of what Edenia actually looks like. You could put a still of Edenia from this video next to the artwork of Edenia from the games and you'd know straight away it was the same place, and I love that. The artwork itself is also amazingly well done and very proffessional looking. The scene where Mileena is afraid of her own reflection and murders the guard is sheer perfection, it was spooky and it was gritty and dark whilst hammering the message across that even as a child Mileena is a savage, dangerous killer.
All in all, I'd just like to ask the haters one simple question:
Could you really do what Kevin's doing on such a small budget and still manage to have a refreshed, original perspective on a well established storyline whilst still maintaining every element of what makes it memorable?
10/10 for this episode. In fact I'll think I'll watch it again. And again. And again.

Hmmm, I'd say this is the more inferior of the episodes so far. It wasn't bad, and I can't wait to see Mileena and Kitana fight, but I just had more issues with this one.
Cons
-Kahn: broken record, but give him his helmet.
-Jerrod: ....wait...he got away? ....Uh-huh....
-Sindel: Very, very poor depiction of her, I found. I thought she was just a handmaiden when she first showed up. And her soul going into Kitana's after she committed suicide? Eh...the original reason was more tragic.
-The effects: They were pretty poor this time during the live action scenes.
-The animations: They were nice, but there were times when it really should've just been live action.
Pros
-Mileena: The teeth thing with the baby seemed genuinly creepy to me, and biting that guys neck was brutal. I actually feel sorry for her now.
-Baraka/Tarkatans: I thought they were represented well. I like how that one tarkatan took on both those guards.
-Shang Tsung: This guy's doing a good job, even when he's in for like 5 seconds. Good casting there.
Bring on part II

How about wearing an effin' helmet when he's leading his Tarkatan Armies to conquer Edenia? I didn't like how they just showed him walking around doing pretty much nothing, except being mushy. Couldn't he have at least broken some Edenian guard's neck or something?

I think people need to be more patient with the episode and the series. It takes place incredibly early in the timeline, so there is still room for characters to evolve into the characters we know and love (and hate). Perhaps Sindel's death causes Kahn to become more evil. Also, warlords have to be liked by SOMEBODY (or someone has to agree with their ideals/objectives) to have followers in the first place.

A Good point, but in fairness, the realm was pretty much invaded at that point. The Tarkatan warriors had very quickly made gory work out of the Edenian people, sure you seen it yourself at how one Tarkatan grunt managed to kill two Royal Guards. At that point in time Shao Khan probably just wanted to relish in his claim as opposed to getting his hands dirty.

Summed up exactly what I thought of this episode.
hates reading commenting calling Kevin Tancharoen an amateur or lacking confidence.. he has directed Fame which like it or not was a massive success, not just for what it did, but what it brough about (namely the Glee phenomenon)..
This series, he's working a lot more on Warner Brother's watch so can't go off the wall with his stuff.. but it is still amazing.. and he has a budget of less than most tv shows.. even the cr*p ones.. get to spend on a single episode for his entire 80 minute series..

Fame was widely panned and described by many as a pointless, lacklustre remake of a classic. So, no. It wasn't successful and could possibly be made an argument of more of the same from this relatively inexperienced director. I don't think it's necessarily very fair to relate those apples to these oranges, but nothing in the episodes shows much in the way of vision, or confidence in the material. That may or may not be attributable to Tancharoen, but I think it's an undeniable fact.
A bit late for MK: Legacy to kick off a teen sensation trend of hohum adaptations, but even trend-setting Fame was trumped by High School Musical by three years. ;-D

No you're not alone. But all these videos have been pretty "meh" to me. They lack of a certain quality that Conquest and the first MK movie had... maybe it's the cheese factor.
Gotta love how humanised Kahn was though. And the Mileena / Kitana dynamic was pretty much what i've been imagining for years, so it's great to see someone out there actually knows what to do with (some) characters.
Too bad Shang looks like a pussy.
