Jax and Mileena in MK 1, eh? Interesting. . .

Well Jax and Kitana were in the first movie. Not to mention Art Lean or Master Boyd, who weren't in the first game either. Anything can happen. As I said before who's to say Mileena didn't exist during the tourny depicted in MK1? She did but in Outworld. Threshold's MK was a merger of MK1 and MK2 with a final touch of MK3.

Did they say that the movie would specifically follow the game anyway? I mean, I would IMAGINE it'd center around the tournament, but nobody says that it has to be contained to JUST the tournament.

Greg Russo has said time from time again it strictly follows the games. But a different approach, not showing us what we know.

Which games? Mk1 to Mk4, MkDA to MKvsDC or MK9 to MK11? Three different eras, 3 different takes. Unfortunately we don't know the specifics. Fans speculate (and I fear hope) its MK9 to MK11.

The entire essence of Mortal Kombat depends on a tournament... which just so happens to be named Mortal Kombat. I guess they could basically remake MK Legacy as a multimovie and save the tournament for last but then the series faces huge potential losses if cast quit, die, or the filmmakers decide not to finish it, like Divergent, and leave us hanging like we seen with Conquest, DOTR, or Legacy 2.

Jax was in MK1.. he was in the first movie, he was going to be in the game but they wanted a female character.

Plus MK9 retold the story.. 7 fighters made sense for an 8-bit game, but given today's technology Ed got his wish of making it a REAL tournament, which would include dozens of fighters - so we saw Quan Chi, the pre-Cyber Cyber Ninjas, Kitana, Jade, Nightwolf, etc.

Mortal Kombat: The Movie is NOT MK1, that refers to a video game and Jax did not appear in it, I know he was planned and they went with a female but bottom line, he wasn't in the final product of the first game. Period.

MK9 wasn't a retelling but a modern reflection of the past MK1 to MK3 with some of MK4 games to bring MK to the 21st century. Then it went to hell with all of this time shit to basically overlook the need to revisit MKDA to MKvDC.

I'm wondering if this isn't really going to be a sequel of sorts to Legacy 2 with all new actors? Purely speculation of course.

The time shift made sense.. the whole fourth wall of the Armageddon game was that Boon had grown the game too much.. there were too many storylines, and failed characters which needed wiping.

Remember, MK1 had memory limitations.. Ed Boon said at the time he wanted more but coz of the memory he went the memory swap ninjas to get that number. I'd back his telling of events over what arcade machines consider official. Especially given a number of fans quote New Line Cinemas telling of the game rather than the Netherealm / Midway's version of it.

Most of this just sounds like twisting Boon's words. A lot of the story was Tobias. I don't care what "fans" (another assumption" quote from New Line - I've read the books and interviews where Boon and Tobias didn't even want the movie and left everything up to Larry and Threshold. I have even archived it all on my site.

I agree, MK9 to MK11 was their way of saying we fucked ourselves and need to reinvent ourselves, so lets twist this and that so we can make it work. Lets just say MK9 is an alternate universe where we can go back in time and change it up and refocus MK. Then in MK11 we can rehash classic characters and skins to please fans.

It's not creative to do the same thing with little to no improvements and bullshit your way through. Now how does MK11 come to an end? Like Boon said, with a huge break. So in a couple years when people forgot the MK9 to MK11 fuckup like he hoped we forgot about the MK4 to MKD then that MKvDC abomination yet we didn't, he czn so ehow justify reinventing and recycling...the...same...boring...shit again and again and rather than separate Kitana anxd Mileena or the Tribots, he can just mesh shit together and blame it on cloning or nuclear mutation or a dream for that matter.

Boon didn't need the space in the '90s. We had books and even CDROMs and comic book he could licensed the canon story to. Instead we got a lot of non-canon books, comic books, toy lines, live stage shows, live series, animated video, film, sequel, trading cards, sticker books, a shitty web series (foma), a trashy card game, 3 different versions of MK3, and almost none of it with any cohesiveness, fixing the fuckups of each previous one while making more fuckups to fix in the future.
