Series co-creator and all around brand ambassador Ed Boon has broken rank to sneak out a first-look at one of the main characters of the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 film sequel. The candid snap offers a vivid look not only at the iconic weapon wielded by fan-favourite, Kitana, but also her live-action costume. Take a closer look:
Boon shared the snap to X (formerly Twitter), noting that he's recently seen a rough cut of the film, while also poking fun at the phenomenon of insider leaks, with a tongue-in-cheek story about stealing it from film producer Todd Garner: "I recently saw a (unfinished cut) screening of the Mortal Kombat 2 movie. During the screening I broke into @Todd_Garner 's phone, found this image from the film, and send it to my phone. I can leak stuff too [thumbs up emoji] #MK2movie #BoonLeaks"
Kitana will be played in the movie by Adeline Rudolph, who joins the sequel after the iconic blue fan was teased in the previous film. Scheduled for an October, 2025 theatrical release, the movie will deal with the fate of Edenia and its most important related characters.
Ed Boon visited the Australian back lot back in July last year, sharing various photographs with the cast, including highly anticipated newcomer Karl Urban who plays Johnny Cage.
