One thing I wanted to get rid of was the rotting flesh and overly-corpsie look of Liu Kang from the old timeline. Instead, I gave him glowing marks to show the energy fueling him in absence of his soul. This version, perhaps, had been preserved by Raiden with hopes of resurrecting him fully, only to be used as a tool of destruction once Raiden became corrupted.
