I gotta admit, I'm worried about this too. I mean, what if someone's got some great artistic talent, but they aren't very creative/original? A little afraid, even, that someone's artistic skill could act as a cover for a lack of originality.

I'm not too worried about how far I get, I entered just to have fun.

I kid of course. I mean I can draw a picture but my concept, design and bio is not that great and it'll most likely show. I'm just happy to participate. I think once someone has an interesting character, then they're all set. I mean you can paint Mokap as spectacularly as you want but he's still just a load of balls at the end of the day.

Keith has a point. It could go both ways, really. A person might not be really artistic but have a fanastic kharacter concept and bio, or they could have wonderful drawing talent but not have anything captivating or original in there kharacter design and concept.

The best you can do is just that - the best you can do. Use the talents you know you have and run with it, rather than worrying about the other person. I'm freaking that Keith (or god forbid if JAX007 gets in) will surpass me in drawing talent, but I'm still going to keep tweaking things until I can tweak no longer! Also keep in mind that different people will be voting on all the contestants, and different people have different tastes in what they think is a "good" concept.

I don't know. I think that having some kind of visual representation would be pretty important to some when it comes to judging. Even if it is just a stick figure you should try to draw your character. Having something is better than nothing IMO.

While I do agree having some type of visual is a plus in imagining the character but in truth you have no imagination if you can not see the image in mind with a well written description. I myself just used a current character render from the current roster as a doll and just edited it to resemble the idea I am going for. I don't have a scanner so there is no point in drawing it on paper. Any character can look good but can also play out a story or gameplay horribly. I think that if people were to go by looks half of us probably already lost the contest.

Hey Crow, I have a question that I feel must be asked in the thread.

What are the elements within the character(s) and the submission(s) that would influence a victory?

i.e. Will certain abilities play a factor? Does the affiliation with certain characters matter? Will the alignment be a factor? Or is everything completely based on the voters' perceptions of the characters?

I got a question too Crow, once you announce the 2 week dead line, will we be able to send any revisions. I know I already sent you a revision because I had some spelling errors, but I also recently tweaked my art work, and would like to send you the new one.

I kind of rushed mine in because I thought the slots would fill up quick, and I wanted to get it in, but I wasn't sure if we could tweak are entries.

A 'victory' is based on the better overall character. It's a combination of everything, not just the guy with the most ridiculous powers. Even if your character is god like, that's not going to help him win a fight in this contest. This contest is about quality fan fiction writing and sensible character creation. In fact, having extreme abilities will hurt your character (at least speaking from this judge). I personally don't like overpowered sounding characters.

But like I said, it's "the better character wins" basically. "Better" is determined by the entire entry sheet; who is the more interesting character.

Just keep things balanced. Obviously, being a "god" in the Mortal Kombat universe doesn't mean they are omnipotent. Make sure that god has some flaws, like they might be powerful as all hell but are arrogant and therefore nobody likes them, or they have a weakness to silver, or something.

It's all about balance and personality.

He is lazy,and others hated him(took some cues from the punishment of loki) I actually made him a god to explain his fighting style. You did well,does that sound balanced.

So a kharacter that can do a fatality right at the beginning of the match is no good?

Raiden and Fujin work fine as playable characters. No reasons that KAKs that happen to be gods have to be overpowering or bad. When I say "god-like", I meant from a fighting standpoint, not actually being a god. Raiden is the god of thunder and he's a fair bit crappy gameplay wise in the new game. It's all about execution.

Probably for the best. The moment you get a telekinetic like Ermac or Kenshi, they'll just end up bending the spoons anyway, and you're shit outta luck.
