Kung Lao's vendetta
Artist's Remarks: | |
This is a alt. costume I created for Kung Lao. Yeah, I know, no hat, sue me. I just thought Kung Lao looked to much the same in every game, I sliced him up a bit and gave him a creative costume. What do you guys think? Dont the hats on his back... cant see it though.

This is a very nice piece, even if it does look a bit like your Kenshi drawing .
I like the detail. Your lines are nice and fluid and his garments flow nicely, but just a little stiff. He has a nice facial thisthingisdisabled and stance but, I don't believe he looks enough like Kung Lao; he doesn't look Chinese enough. If I were to give him any partial Asian nationality, I would say that he might have a small percentage of Japanese in him, but then, Kung Lao is from China :\. Another item that I think is kind of weird, but intriguing, is the bullet holes. They are interesting, but what inspired you to add them.
Well, overall, you have very nice detail. I think I gave you a 5 or a 4.5. I forget

I was wondering aswell about the holes, if they are bullet holes. Kung Lao is the one!
Greatly detailed outfit. I personally don't really mind the hat not being there, but it is kind of his signature. Maybe if he had on his back like in his MKDA outfit.
In MKDA he doesn't really look asian neither so it is ok for me. 5/5 from me,.....Again.

i miust say i like this pick a lot, you did alot of good things for Kung Lao on this, and i think the "holes" are buttons or "decals"(sp?) i like his costume a lot it is very original and fits him very well i also like the amount of detail in his gauntlets or what ever they are they look great. I also like the cloth it looks very good, it doesnt look stale at all, very nice one of my favs.

I agree with ya Suit, he does look pretty much the same in every game (save MKDA, perhaps).
However, this is a refreshing break.
The costume is highly detailed, and is very fitting for Kung Lao, something I could definately seeing him wear/fight in. The combination of clothing items here is just perfect.
I think the bracelet guard thingies are pretty cool too, thought I'm not too sure Kung Lao would wear them, they do well here.
The hair is an interesting style for Kung Lao. Thought it seems kind of boy-bandish (), it does fit him quite well.
The pose you put him in is a good choice as well. It really shows that does have a vendetta. His facial thisthingisdisabled also seems to define his extreme concentration, for this person that he is fueding with.
A very nice alternate idea for Kung Lao, I think it works very well.
Nice work .

Karim, you replied in every one of Suit's fantastic (all of them) drawing "I color this one.. what color should I give it".. for christ sake, if you want to color it.. ask permission and do it!
The_suit: 10000 thumbs up for your work.. to bad I can't give 6 dragons for your work because each and everyone is worth it!!
You rule dude!

I must say I quite like the idea of this, 'vendettas' are quite interesting, I'd like to hear a bit more of the backstory behind this drawing myself. You always have nice stories to go along with your drawings, so if you have more, like who he is feuding with feel free to post it. Anyway, I like the hairstyle change, its the first thing I noticed. I think you kept enough length to it, while giving it a refreshing change. You did say the hat is still there, its just out of sight, I like that idea because it is realistic. They even make jokes about how it stays on his head in MKDA, so this gets points for realism.
The attire itself is very nice, I like that alot. The 'collar' around his neck is interesting, I like how it sort of connects with the rest of the outfit. The texture looks good, and you did a nice job shading. I particularly like the armguards, as they seem very detailed, very nice. The way the straps come across the chest to connect it with the other side is very cool, and original I might add.
The 'holes' or 'buttons' as someone suggested are quite nice. They do look more like buttons now that I look at them closely, again, those are a very nice touch and a very original detail as I don't believe I've seen buttons in MK too many times. Pretty nice how you kept with the 'strap' theme, gives the cloths alot more definition. Very original concept, I like this, can't wait to see someone step up to color it.

The_Suit, I'm not flaming you, as your art is magnificent, but it seems that almost all of the faces you draw look the same. You have some of the most inventive costume designs I've seen, but still the heads have the same faces with different (greatly rendered) hair.
This is only in my opinion mind you, but I have the same problem, and have heard of a solution (that hasn't been tested due to my laziness towards drawing):
Try drawing the faces of normal people, but exaggerate the features sort of like a caricature so that you can get your own gist of them. You said that you gave up anime because it was too simple to you. Well, maybe this 'training' will be just as easy, since one of the major parts of anime is exaggeration.
Now once again, this is only MY opinion, and I still think you're a great artist. The face thing isn't really much of a bother to me, just something I've noticed in all your works so far. If you do decide to work on this, maybe I can find some tutorials. Either that, or you can PM Jax007, as his work oozes with variety most times.
I think I found a new subject for my Advice thread.
Oh, on topic, this pic is a 5/5.
