With a gun to my head, the first name that comes up is Hotaru. I loved his "Bad guy who thinks he's a good guy" deal, and I share (with far less fanaticism) his ideals about Order.

Quan Chi doesn't really register with me as 3D era anymore...he and Shinnok are kind of MK transition characters seeing how they first appeared and were set up in Trilogy and Mythologies.

I'm going to go MKDA-MKA, I don't know why, but MK4/Gold is kind of it's own thing to me. I'm also excluding Kenshi, because pretty much everyone loves Kenshi (myself included) so this way I can pick someone else.

What about Kenshi?

While he's a good character, I've personally never cared for him.

I did enjoy playing with him in MK9, though.

Ashrah is my favorite. Not only is her design interesting, but I love her story of trying to hard at redemption, and liked it even before Armageddon revealed her kriss was manipulating her and that she wasn't redeeming herself, thereby making her story so tragic. She could have been better realized when it came to moveset, but it feels like Deception was kind of rushed, and Armageddon definitely was, so she was left feeling more like a Raiden clone with a little Kung Lao sprinkled in (well, okay, just that spin from him). But as it is, she still is more original in her moveset than some of the other post-MK3 characters (MK4 Jarek is the worst offender). But if Tanya could be developed into her own uniquely-playing character (and not just the basically-just-Kitana version in MK4), then Ashrah could also be given a similar treatment.

Blind Kenshi for sure! Bo Rai Cho and Limei are other good options too.
