Remember this thread I made:

Martian Manhunter and Zatanna are confirmed, Black Canary has been teased. Not bad, if I have to say so myself. And people didn't believe me, because I put Zatanna on the list, yet here she is.

Haha NRS manages to make a character model look female AND hot to boot? The fucking sky must be falling.
**EDIT** Looks like NRS will be doing another live stream to show off Zatanna on Aug. 12(Monday).

100% disappointed in this character. She's a generic video game sorceress. Teleports, elemental based moves and projectiles. Completely uninspired.
Her moves needed to be based off classic magic tricks and more technically unique. There are traces of the right idea... her throw and her playing cards projectile, but even those aren't fully realized.
She's exactly what I was worried she'd be... completely bland.

I really don't understand this line of thinking. She's not going to put them in a box and cut them in half or pull a rabbit out of her hat in the middle of the fight. She's gonna fight like she does in the comics. Like she does in the game.
Right? It's like those are thing awesome things she could be doing. I mean I get the direction they went it and it's nearly as generic or element heavy as it could've been but that would've been awesome.
Or like beating you to death with a rabbit out of the a hat like Kung Lao.

I wouldn't say that about all of them, but some do strike you as uninspired. I can't say I was chomping at the bit for Zatanna, but at best I thought there would be plenty of leeway for something special in the super move department. Sorry to say I was proven wrong.
I was expecting something a little more stage magiciany. I think her's reminds me of Raven in that it seems like it'd be a huge thing with the background and all the runes and stuff and she just drops you.
Like Raven takes the time to take you to another dimension only to get you scratched a few times. I like some of the "boring" supers like Hawkgirl's because it looks like it hurts but for the most part I've been let down by them in general.

The rabbit out of the hat would serve no purpose, but sawing an opponent in half would have been an excellent super for her. In fact, that's the exact thing I suggested months ago, when people were debating whether or not she would be included in the game.
Zatanna has been known to use quirky magic in the comics, and such tricks would lend themselves much better to a more unique moveset.
Furthermore, there are a lot liberties taken with characters' move-sets in Injustice. Not that basing Zatanna's moves off of classic magic tricks would have been taking any liberties with her, but the point stands in contrast to your argument. Black Adam does not throw blobs of lightning on the ground in the comics. Aquaman cannot shove his trident in the ground and cause it to pop up under his opponent. Grundy can't stomp on the ground and cause zombie hands to reach up and grab you.
As of now, there's nothing really defining about Zatanna's move-set. It could pretty much belong to any "wizard" character in any video game ever. I expressed my concern that NRS would fall back on this trope if they decided to add her, and that's precisely what they did. It's boring and uninspired and does not even come within a thousand miles of to using Zatanna to her full potential.
