I didn't really like MKvsDC, except for the fact that the Story Mode was the passage to the awesome Story Mode in Mortal Kombat. Injustice was fun, ut I am so ready for the next Mortal Kombat. No crossovers.

I honestly don't mind what game comes next as long as it involves MK. The fact that Boon said it will be Injustice Too, and not 2 makes me think it might be a crossover game. Now I would prefer a strait MK game but I'll live if its MKvsDC 2.

Now for those of you who didn't like the first MKvsDC all I can say is that the NRS MK team can make a better fighting game than Midway's MK team, with all of their new resources.

Also its been a while since I was last on this sight. Good to be back glasses

This idea for an optional crossover is interesting, but I'd rather have an "official" one. I love watching purists squirm.

Watching the purists squirm is pretty fantastic. I still think that the OP's idea is a great one though. Two completely separate fighting platforms that allow cross-play if the player wants. However players could ignore the cross-play feature and would only be paired with players on the same platforms. (MK or Injustice)

As far as fatalites go, they could just be disabled when crossplay is active. Problem solved. It's really not that big of a deal. Injustice was actually pretty brutal in its gameplay so that would be fine.

But yeah, probably ahead of its time.

It's not so much that people don't want a crossover, (some really don't) they just another MK game first. It's been 3 years, 3 LONG years. It's time.

I understand that, but the way some people act, even if we got ninety-six new MK games in only one year, and a crossover, said people would complain that we should have a ninety-seventh MK game instead of that crossover. Meaning that they'll always object to crossovers no matter what.

I guess I'm in the minority in that I really don't care to see another big AAA MK game, loaded with Challenge Towers and whatnot. What I would love to see is a more Arcade type MK. Really focused on the fighting and a tight, balanced roster.

I really don't care for the epic, almost operatic story mode thing. I like a leaner, more streamlined storytelling approach that's less "produced" without a big, bombastic musical score and all that. It starts to feel more like the MK movies at that point. Meh. Something a bit more rough and minimalistic would be ideal. For me anyway.
I don't want MKvsDC2 either. Please, no Konquest stuff either. I really hate all that wasted time and money for something used to unlock stuff.

Interesting concept. You're talking about a similar concept to Pokemon, but on a more grand scale. Where essentially the core fighting engines would be the same, but the content would be relevant and franchise specific to either MK or DC game, but would have cross play ability.

I like the reference. Definitely gets at the heart of it. Nice one!

Bingo. MK and Injustice sequels can retain their individual styles. Cross-play just needs to repurpose the resources into an acceptable medium. It's three games for the price of one.

mkdfan Wrote:
If there was another cross over, the only thing that could save it would be if DC allowed the horrific mutilation of their characters, which I can't see happening.

Worth remembering that DC are in a very different place than they were six years ago. For better or worse, DC Entertainment seems to be steering the ship in a new direction. Injustice was generally a harsher game than MK vs DC. Man of Steel is another contemporary reference that shows how attitudes to these characters has changed and may allow for a better compromise than 2008's "Heroic Brutalities". Injustice certainly showed how they can be more creative.

Always like to come back to our interview with John Tobias, as well:

"I don't think the violence or the fatalities ever became too big a distraction for the actual players who were more enamored by the mechanics of play, which is the core reason why players play a game."

"I do remember thinking that anyone who really believes that the only reason players play MK is for the violence probably has never really played MK."

ShaolinChuan Wrote:
The real reason MKvsDC was made was because when Midway owned the MK franchise, they were desperate for money. Merging the 2 together was their only saving grace because all their other games were selling poorly, and the company was going down under.

MK was always profitable. MKvsDC was a creative opportunity as much as anything else. One game was never going to save them. MK was arguably drifting away from the pop culture centre it used to be a strong part of. Can't forget (or overlook) the comic book spirit at the heart of MK.

hezikiah Wrote:
Yea but the article didn't actually suggest a MKvsDCU game. The article is talking about two separate games that have crossgame online play pretty much. So its MKvsDCU 2 in spirit.

Anybody talking about MKvsDC2 probably hasn't read past the title of the article. Which means they've missed the point entirely.

Lots of great replies, guys. Great stuff!

First and Foremost I want MK10 first but if it's going to happen I believe that NRS has a team big enough to pull this off most of the work is already done.

I hope they go huge and have 32 vs 32 with an option to play Updated MK 2011 and Injustice

Character Select Screen similar to Injustice but with 4 Rows of 8 plus 4 DLC spots on the bottom with option to flip screen from MK to Injustice

Use the Injustice Fight Engine it's better IMO

MK side adds Shinnok, Bo Rai Cho,Blaze,Tanya, Fugin, Havik
DC side adds Darksied, Atrocius, Power Girl, Poison Ivy, Gorilla Grodd, Dr. Fate

With 4 DLC per side

MK Shao Khan, Kitana, Nightwolf and Sareena
DC Static Shock, Blue Beetle, Scarecrow and Black Manta

Add 1 hour to story Mode in all three games (It's a Next Gen Game)
MK side tells the story of the rise of Shinnok
DC side tells the story of Darkseid
MK vs DC tells the story of Dark Khan

Upscale the Graphics to at least 910p on Mortal Kombat and Injustice. Obviously have MK vs DC TOO 1080p

Add Super Moves to the MK characters and a NEW X-Ray Move
Add Brutalities MK Explode DC get knocked out of the Screen
Add Transitions to the MK Stages note at elaborate as the DC Stages
Add 2nd Super Move to Injustice
Add Character Trait to MK Characters
Add Tag Team Mode to Injustice
Add at least 4 more Stages to each side
MK Portal, Neathership(Interior and Deck) Ying Yang and Prison
DC Titan Tower, Grundy's Swamp ETC.

No X-Ray moves in MK vs DC TOO ( to keep its "T" rating )

Finishing Moves for Mortal Kombat
2 x Fatalities from MK 2011
1 x Classic
1 x Babality
1 x Brutality
1 x Stage Fatality

Finishing Moves for Injustice
2 x Brutalities

Finishing Moves for MK vs DC TOO
2 x Brutalities
1 x Stage Finisher

We are getting MKX, not a cross over. I don't think they would introduce new characters into a cross over, because it wouldn't make sense.
I played IGAU and I guess it was ok. They can make a sequel to that and not MKvsDCU2. MKvsDCU, was not appealing at all. Everything about that game sucked balls. If they were gonna make the sequel, just make it as a game app.
