I have never heard that word being used as another name for "Hell." Hell has always been Hell to me or the Underworld. I may have never paid attention or didn't care, still, I have never heard "Netherealm" as a substitute name for Hell.

I'm surprised that you've never heard the name of Netherealm as Hell. That's exactly what it is. It's exactly where Scorpion ended up when he died. Lucifer used to rule it. Shinnok was banished there. It's full of Demons.
Here's a quote from the MK Mythologies instruction booklet/the old MKM website:
EVENTS IN THE NETHEREALM
Since the beginnings of time, the Netherealm has always existed as a place where the unwanted spirits of reality were sent. It has been interpreted in many different ways and has many different names; Hell, Hades, Gehenna, Pluto. Its purpose has always remained the same.

I'm pretty sure she meant that she had never heard some way in the real world refer to Hell/Underworld/whatever as "Netherrealm".

the name reminds me of Neverland Ranch which I guess is appropriate seeing how much boon loves young boys, lol

I like it! WB has the resources to make Mortal Kombat 9 pretty freakin' sweet, and all these updates paint the picture that they're taking the series very seriously. I have a feeling that the advertising for MK9 is gonna be amazing.
I approve. I don't think I've been this excited for an MK game since Deception!

That, or they've been relegated to their own little corner.
With old favourites such as Smoke and Reptile, I can't help but think Mortal Kombat fans might not be the best people to ask about the sound of a name. Which might explain why more people don't think it sounds just a little goofy. 'HELL STUDIOZ,' so very brainless '90s.
I'm looking forward to the release of the next game, though.
It looks like "fitting" will be the new word. Don't worry "canon," I'm sure we haven't seen the last of you!
