The Doctor Who Thread
Well, I've thought about making this thread for a while now and tonight I just figured what the hell; geronimo!
So, does anyone else here love Doctor Who? Curious about it? Have no idea what the hell it is? Well, I'd like to gather some other MKO Whovians here to talk about it.
I fell in with the series fairly recently with my first episode being the 2010 Christmas special. I watched it just on a whim because it was a version of "A Christmas Carol" which is my favorite Christmas story. From then on I was in love, and since I have "acquired" 310G of Who and Who related shows. Spanning from the first episode from 1963 to the most recent Christmas Special. Admittedly, it was difficult to accomplish but I got my hands on as many episodes as I could obtain, including a few reconstructions of a few "lost episodes" to which only audio was found. Besides just Who, I've got all of Torchwood and all of the Sarah Jane adventures.
I've also got a good amount of Doctor Who stuff- A Sonic Screw Driver, a TARDIS usb hub, tons of Who comics, and an 11th Doctor costume (with Fez). My text alert also screeches "EXTERMINATE."
Honestly, I have no idea why I fell so much in love with this series; I've probably watched every episode of the 05 series at least 3 times, as well as finishing Torchwood, the Sarah Jane Adventures, and watching countless episodes of classic Who. I just love it.
Personally, when it comes to Doctors I like

4- Yes, Tom Baker doesn't rank in my top 5. What of it?!

So is anyone else on this site a Whovian? Or is anyone even mildly interested in understanding the babble I'm spouting?
Care to understand or talk about what is going on here -
Or here?

Is this the show about the madman in a box? I've seen some of that. I like the show a lot even though it's actually not very good a lot of the time. When it's good it's great, but when it's bad (which is often), it's boring.
It's not easy to explain the appeal, is it? In the Craig Ferguson Lost Dr. Who Cold Open (which I recommend Youtubing if you haven't seen it), he says people love it because it's all about the triumph of intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism. That's part of it, and there's also how unique it is. The world was a different place fifty years ago when the show first started, and yet it's still using a lot of the same concepts and elements from back then, which creates a very distinctive feel. There's no other show quite like it.
There's also the fantasy wish-fulfilment aspect. Who wouldn't want to be the Doctor? A happy-go-lucky supergenius with the entirety of time and space as your playground? The TARDIS might be the most desirable object in all of fiction, moreso than a light saber or Black Cat.
High five for not putting Tennant in first place. He's good, but he overdoes it sometimes. My favourites are Nine, Four and Two.
And while I'm recommending Youtube videos, I'd also suggest Doctor Who: The First Question 50th Anniversary Trailer. It's a fan-made thing that makes the show look like the most epic, grandiose story ever told (which in some ways it kind of is).
Ideal next Doctor? I'm ready for an older dude again, and I think Alfred Molina was born for it.

Craig Ferguson Cold Open
I've gotta give Craig and Chris Hardwick a bit a credit for getting me interested in it. Were it not for them going on about it, I might not have given the Christmas Special any consideration, but they seemed to love it and I loved a Christmas Carol, so I gave it a shot and I fell in love.

I watched my first Who episode in Study Hall this week on Hulu, "The Time of the Angels," and loved it. So freakin' creepy.

I wish Netflix, at least in Canada any way, would add more eps

Yeah, I enjoy Doctor Who; I've only watched the revived series on Netflix, though. I first got into it when I acquired Netflix for my PS3; being curious about it at the time, I thought I'd start watching it.
I cannot accurately place the Doctors in a list of my favorites because I haven't even seen 8 of the 11, but I know that it is currently the 9th Doctor.

Well, if you're interested, here is the 8th Doctor's only television appearance. You also get to see the 7th Doctor for a bit in the beginning.
It's a tv movie that aired on Fox in 1996 and served as a backdoor pilot to try and revive the show on Fox (this was the X-Files heyday). The ratings in the U.K. were spectacular but lackluster in the U.S. so the show was never picked up. Which is a good thing, as this is nowhere near as good as the new series. Some like this movie, others hate it- I think it's ok. It makes a few errors that later had to be corrected or explained and it feels very American, so it's sort of odd. Also, Eric Roberts is in it.
However, it must be noted that the dandified looking 8th Doctor is the Doctor that fought in the Time War spoke of by 9, 10, and 11 retroactively making him badass. Also, I believe he has the largest collection of other media stories (novels, comics, radio novellas), simply because of the 10 year span between the film and the revival.

The 8th Doctor has a lot going for him there, Coltess.
Please excuse my wording in the previous post I made, I meant that I haven't seen any incarnation of the Doctor prior to the 9th, aside from images, art, and gifs. Thank you for rectifying the problem with the 8th, though! :D

Well, I just wanted to share 8. He doesn't get much respect because of his mediocre only appearance.
I don't mean to bump, but I just remembered this and had to share it.
This is exactly why the Second Doctor is my favorite.

Hey guys, hope I don't get in trouble for the bump, but with the new season as well as this bit of news, I thought I should.

This is going to be a hell of a yeah for all of us Whovians! So much great stuff planned! How am I going to find the time to enjoy it all? Wow!
Fantastic episode this week! I really think that Jenna-Louise Coleman is pulling off a unique companion, and Matt Smith was in excellent form. Honestly, I think had this been a later episode, they could have pulled it off as a Regeneration episode and everyone would have been fine with it (not that I want Matt Smith to move on, just that the emotion he exhibited as well as the events taking place would have been made a regeneration justified). However, I love 11 and here to more 11 episodes to come!

I absolutely loved this moment from the The Rings Of Akhenaten .
Warning, Spoilers if you have yet to watch it. However, if you're new to Who it won't really hurt; it'll just give you a glimpse into who the Doctor is.
