I recently did a clean re-installed of my OS on my PC. I'm running Windows Media Center XP 2005. My problem is after about an hour or so of running my PC the sound/volume goes, and starts freezing while running video, music, and streaming video files. If I log off the current desktop the sound returns, and the problem is fixed for a while before it happens again. I'm assuming it's something to do with the memory, or cache not dumping or clearing out. Does anyone know anything more specific about this problem, and what I can do to fix it? It's getting really anoying when I'm trying to lissen to music, or watch stuff of Youtube.

Also of note orginally I was running Windows XP Media Center 2004 prior to the clean install. It's a Sony Via VGC-RA710g. It's running with a 3.2ghz P4 CPU, 512 MB of RAM, and NVidia Geforce FX 5200 graphics card.

I know what your problem is. If you have a cell phone near your computer, or even a simple landline in your room, or even....your living room, then you are doomed to that problem. It is even theorized that radio signals or other signals interfere with your sound.

Common ways to solve: Turn off your cell phone (Probably the cause)

Get a new speaker that is boom resistant. You can find them at office depot, but if I may warn you it costs $120 minimum. it is sound resistant and will help you. But then again, that is alot of money. Just turn off your celly ;)

It's not just the sound though, but also video playback that freezes up. Weather it be video files stored on my hard drive, or streaming video online. Also the problem goes away immideitly if I log off the desktop (the computer isn't shut down in the proccess).

If it was an outside interferance the problem would persist once I logged off. It doesn't, but does come back after I seem to have veiwed, or played a number of media files. Which leads me to believe it's something to do with the memory, or cache isn't clearing, or dumping out.
