I rented it, and I found that it's not really a bad game gameplay-wise. Just has a band-aid approach to fixing alot of the things that were wrong in the last few games.... and it has a stupid concept tied to it(iMo). Now, it's not the best game, and the disc could have been filled up more, but I think if you wanted alot of the old MK games in a new one, this is about as close as you're gonna get for the time being. Truth be told, they got alot right with this one. That's probably why you don't see so much bitching going on right now about the game.
The highlight is how much closer the gameplay is to the 2D Mk games, than these last couple Mk games. A definite surprise to me, but it is welcomed. The other thing that sticks out to me as a plus for this game, is how they handled sound and graphics. Sound almost sells this game by itself, and the graphics are at least "not bad".
Everything else lacks some stuff though. Story, character portrayals, online stuff...ect.
Bottom line though, is that you can tell that they paid more attention to gameplay in this one, than anywhere else in this game, or in the last few games. It's a good rental, but if you bought it, the more you play it and find out how much stuff is actually there, the more you will like it. I rented it for two weeks just to make sure. That's one of the good elements about MK games btw; "finding things".
I'd take this game as a gift if I were you. Play the combo challenges, fight the A.I. on "very Hard", and then go online with it. I'll get it down the line though, cuz I still feel about the same as I did when this game was announced. So I'm doing exactly what I said I was gonna do.
