The main problem with Sindel's gameplay, fighting style-wise, is that she's too slow and weak. On top of having moves that have long recovery times, the moves do little damage. I've noticed that the majority of Jade's moves do very high damage, like 11 and 12 points, while Sindel's move do around 7 on average.

Her Throw is a perfect example of this. Long recovery time while doing only 10% of damage. Most throws do 16% damage.

In MKA, she needed combos like "Sneaky Fist" where the last hit is a knocking down low attack. That would have really helped her, I think since combos like that get around blocking better. I like her new 1,1, 3 combo though.

You should submit more drawings of her. Some where she's flying or screaming and using her other powers. I'd love to see them.

I really like Sindel. She has a good range of moves for every distance and her weapon style (whom she shares with Shinnok) is one of my favorites.

It is a shame though, because I'm the only one I know who uses Sindel online and when I win, the opponent quits 35% of the time! It's really quite irritating!

No, I asked for permission to use short, small Flash videos for this one particular thread. I am not allowed to post videos wherever and whenever I feel like it, and I'm not going to.

[edit] to keep on topic, Sindel is one of my favourite characters in the MK series. I was a staunch supporter of bringing her back into the 3D games albeit she is extremely crippled compared to her preferred 2D days. She was best in UMK3/Trilogy. She has a great ground and air combo mixup, shes a fun character to use.

So here's another question... If Sindel's flying would have returned for MKA, how would you have liked it to have been? Should she have been able to do more than just drop fireballs? She'd she move in 3D or just back and forth, etc.?

Okay, I'm about to do something unusual...

I was playing around with Sindel's biography from MK3 one day, since I think it's fantastic, and I wrote it in more detail and with extended events and stuff. I also made up a lot of things just to (hopefully) give the characters more flavor and personality. Also, some things are corny but I couldn't come up with anything different.

I'm going to post this just to see if you guys like it.

I'm sure it has some spelling errors and such, but anyway... Here it is...

CHAPTER 1

My name is Sindel.

Long ago, I ruled a realm called Edenia, alongside my husband Jerrod. It was a realm of beauty, art, and spirituality. We were greatly celebrated in our realm as King and Queen. Huge ceremonies were held for us at our palace. We’d walk down the long, tall stairway at the front of our palace every 1000th night and be cheered and admired by our many people who would stand at the sides. The ceremonies’ became less noisy, but more emotional when Jerrod and I had our first child, our daughter, Kitana. Everyone in the realm loved her, and even requested for pictures of their princess to be publically posted of her all over the realm to keep them constantly awed and inspired.

Our people were happy. Although we had magnificent buildings, statues, and wondrous technology, the hobbies and overall work of our people was simple; cooking, crafting, husbandry, meditation, making their own clothes and furniture, worshiping the Elder Gods, and spending time with their family.

These were my favorite hobbies as well, along with attending to the needs and wants of my people, singing, and of course, brushing and stylizing my long black hair, whereas Jerrod’s additional hobbies were also attending the realm, but building things and exercising instead. Yes, we had the occasional criminals and troublemakers, but they were a minimal faction of our paradisal realm. However, I realize now that I should not have been so overlooking towards crime and injustice back then, for it was that which would destroy my realm and devastate my heart.

Precisely 10,000 years ago, I awoke to a calm morning. I snuggled, kissed, and ate with Jerrod, then I fed Kitana, and all three of us played and laughed. We were all relaxing in the porch of our palace, enjoying the view of the many homes, trees, and people in front, and then I saw it... A massive purple and red cloud that rapidly spread across the sky. It let out a constant thunderous hum which shook the ground and terrified Kitana. I quickly gripped her in my arms and asked Jerrod what was happening. He said he didn’t know. Then all of a sudden, clusters of masked men with swords came plummeting down from the cloud. As we saw that they started to rampage through the homes and buildings, we realized that we were being invaded.

When we saw a wave of these men dashing towards our palace, I called for a servant nearby to come and take Kitana to my room. I ordered her to guard her at all costs. Jerrod and I ran into the palace’s armory and pulled swords of our own into our hands. As we moved towards the front door, Jerrod shouted at another servant to alarm our army and troops.

We arrived at the front door and waited for the masked men’s entrance. Meanwhile, we were joined by several of our armed palace guards. Within moments, our front door broke open and a raging mass of men came spewing from the outdoors. Jerrod, the guards, and I began to fight them. We sent blow after blow against the many savage invaders, clanging swords against swords, impaling one man after the other, and splattering blood virtually everywhere.

Jerrod and I quickly became separated as we lured groups of men into different rooms. I lured a jumble of mine into a domed room, and he lured a jumble of his into one of the halls. I jumped atop of a table and from there, started swinging my blade at my offenders below. I grew with anxiety the longer I remained apart from Jerrod, while praying in the back of my head that Kitana was alright and safe.

Two of my guards were killed right in front of me, one slashed to death, the other decapitated. As I naively paused to watch for a second, one of the invaders struck me on my leg. It was not a deep cut, but I treated it as a wake-up call and become more focused after that. After nearly an hour of battle, I finally finished with the group of invaders that had followed me.

I cautiously walked to the hall where Jerrod had taken a group of men, but for some reason, all I heard was silence. I become nervous and scared. I searched for him for a few minutes in sheer desperation until I heard a man’s deep voice yelling outside. He was announcing something. He sounded very important.

I stepped outside and felt my heart sink from my body into an abyss. Jerrod was being held captive by a tall, spiky armored man. The Emperor Shao Kahn.

The invaders were no longer rampaging. They were standing still, looking up at Shao Kahn with full attention, along with the Edenians that were caught in the riot and my troops who were sent to stop it. Shao Kahn was announcing that the King would be facing him in battle for the rulership of the realm. Within seconds, I was grabbed and disarmed by some of the masked men and was directed to a “front-row” seat to this battle. I did not hesitate to fight back since I could not lay my eyes off of Jerrod and needed to see what was his fate. My angry screams at Shao Kahn were immediately silenced by one of the four hands of one of Kahn’s beastly monsters.

He commanded another four-armed monster that was holding down my husband to release him, and so he did. Instantly, Jerrod bellowed and charged at Shao Kahn with a passionate rage. He struck him in the face and stomach several times, but was then only ridiculed by Shao Kahn afterward. Jerrod commenced another set of strikes and found them all being blocked by the skilled Kahn. He knocked down my husband when he had the chance.

Jerrod was just as tall and built as Kahn, but no where near as experienced in kombat. I felt overwhelmed by what I was seeing. Moments later, Shao Kahn took the lead in the fight, and ended up cracking Jerrod’s neck in the end.

I, along with the thousands of Edenians that were watching, began to sob and cry.

Soon after, I eagerly started wondering where Kitana was, and I felt a raw, paralyzing sting pass through my body as one of the masked men passed her into Shao Kahn’s arms. My teary eyes were wide opened, and I held my breath for what seemed like forever as he held her in his arms, without me knowing what he was going to do to her.

He slowly walked over to me. As he got near, I pleadingly reached out my arms in hope that he would pass her to me, but instead he kept her out of my reach and said, “You will make me a perfect wife, Sindel, and she, a perfect daughter.”

Finally! Now that Im free (a bit more only) from work and stress, I will be able to reply to this fantastic thread about one of MKs most unique characters, and one of my personal faves as well:

Sindel: The Queen!

She is simply fantastic. I love everything about her, from her evil goth-like witch features, to her superb special moves, to her amazing storyline. Sure she has her downs (more of the negative later), like all characters do, but Sindel has enough positive points to keep me interested in her, and enough potential to continue in future MKs, despite the rather cliché theories we have heard around.

MK3 Sindel: The Fatal Resurrection

I remember seeing the goth-like witch on the Arcades for the first time, that huge picture of her with Kahn below. In all honestly, Shao Kahn looked like a puppet next to the intimidating sexy queen with the glowing hands.

I was dying to play this game, but because of different reasons, I never really got the chance to do so in the arcades at first, but this was (thank God) the first MK game I owned on PC. I was super excited. I kept thinking about my faves and all, about this new storyline and what made that witch-like female so important.

Of course, my first character pick was Sonya Blade. But as I looked at the character select screen, two things disappointed me. The first was that there was no sign of Johnny Cage (another of my faves), and there was NO SIGN of Sindel! I then assumed she was a boss character.

I saw a cast of interesting characters, but most of them I didn’t knew. That day I thought many stupid things:

Like, why all of the sudden Goro had gone darker, skinnier, taller, playable and with such a big chest (I had no idea this was in fact a new character called Sheeva).

And also, “who is that man with big white hair?”

For many years I thought I was the only person who thought the Sindel pic in the select screen was actually a MAN, but only recently (a few months ago maybe? Or 1 year?) I saw someone who posted the same thought I had back then when MK3 was released. LOL, it was kind of cool to know I was not the only one who thought Sindel was a man. I don’t even know what made me think about that, maybe because I was young, I don’t know, but Sindels icon is very cool in that pic.

So, after discovering my very stupid mistake and feeling all excited that Sindel was actually there, playable, I went on to play with Sonya (whos story I already knew) and with extreme difficulty, defeated Shao Kahn. MK3 Shao Kahn, for me, will always be the most memorable of all bosses, for it was because of him that I kept punching my computers monitor, screamed angrily out load, and kept hitting my keyboard with no mercy. LOL. He was such a powerful cheap bitch.

So anyway, I don’t remember who I won the game with next, or who was the next character I chose after Sonya and reading the rest of the cool bios, but whatever happened it lead me to Sindel.

Her story was extremely interesting, her role very important, her presence in our realm a true devastation. She was a real MK character. I love how she was this diabolic key to our ruin and Kahns victory, how she was resurrected in cool fashion to add depth to MK2s storyline, etc. It was very good.

She was a great playable character as well. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better for this already cool character, she does an impressive hair grab move that throws my character far to the other end, then she does her fantastic sonic scream, two special moves/powers that would instantly become her trademark attacks. She also had a very cool fireball which wasn’t really anything new we hadn’t seen before (except for the fact she threw this fire ball in a very provocative pose imo). And when I was already done getting impressed, I was very surprised to discover she could fly not only in her victory pose (Mk3 right?), but also as a special move as well.

She instantly became a top fave of mine till this day.

Her fatalities were fantastic. I LOVE both, but the hair remains for me, as her best fatality ever. So stylish, very original.

Her friendship was hilarious, the evil bitch with THAT voice? LOL.

Her Animality....now this sucked. A wasp???....of all possible evil creatures....a wasp??? I thought it was rather silly and boring. Not really that deadly or interesting as Sheevas Scorpion, Sonyas Eagle, and even Shang Tsungs Cobra. I always thought Sektors bat should had been Sindels animality, sure the bat wasn’t really that interesting, but for some reason, a “vampire bat” suits the goth queen more then the silly wasp.

MKA The Movie

Since I had NO idea MKA was already out, nor did I ever see any trailers, etc. I was in quite a shock for this movie. Being a little kid and a huge fanatic of MK, I didn’t see any mistakes with this rather disappointing film, but till this day, I love Musetta Vander as Sindel, and I love Sindel in the movie. I was very surprised to see her suddenly step in and talk to Kitana with such a sexy but still kind of silly line (“Too bad you...will die”, LOL!). She was like the Shang Tsung of the movie, only with that feminine attitude at her side (but don’t take me wrong, no one can ever compare to Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawas superb acting!).

So anyway, I was very pleased with Sindel in this movie, specially in those very memorable scenes of her hair attack, her scream that destroyed the temple of the Elder Gods, and of course, her evil laugh and mocking when we are revealed that the legend was a lie.

Too bad she didn’t get any good fighting scenes. She and Kitana were both kind of pathetic in their fight, it even felt a bit silly. And even though she looked awesome, I was disappointed that she didn’t have any goth like make-up nor the cool wild white hair.

One thing that was really weird is that, at the end of the film, when Sindel recovers herself from Khans spell, etc. She looks extremely beautiful, but 30,000 years younger then Kitana!? Is it just me or did Sindel looked younger? Either way, she looked fantastic! Very beautiful.

MK4-MKDA: Where the hell is the Queen Bitch of MK!?

Such a disappointment not to see her in any of these games. But hey, at least she made a very cool appearance in the MK4 comic. And she was mentioned in those games in text, etc.

MKD: SHE IS BACK!!!!!!!!

YAY! I was extremely happy to discover the return of the classics. MKD was more like the MK3 of the past. A lot of new characters, a lot of one-time stars, and very few of the main classics.

Her look was brilliant in this game. Sexy, goth, still like a witch, the only difference is that she didn’t (for some reason) look that evil in her pics. I guess its because of her srory, but by just looking at her Mk3 and MkD pics, you can tell she is really dark on Mk3, while on MKD she looks more benevolent.

Now, her alternate, that costume was fantastic! I was actually hoping to see Sindel more royal and Queen-like, fighting in a less revealing outfit, but even though we didn’t get that wish, she still looked amazingly wicked in her black and red costume with the crown. Very cool!

One of the BEST things about Sindels look in this game is her hair. Is it just me or does this wicked thing seems to be alive! I love it!

So first things first, I had to read her story...., yes, I was a bit disappointed. Her primary bio didn’t really give her any development. Her alternate bio was much better, gave us a few cool details about her, but overall, it was not close, at all, to her glorious MK3 storyline. THAT was perfect. In MKD, she lacked development for being in search of Kitanas freedom.

Though the “ancient documents that should had been destroyed” part was very cool. It was kind of sad they treated Sindel as a sort of weak character. Im thinking she could had been exploited more. Anger, no patience and craziness should had been implemented into her character, it suits her.

I guess I forgave the team for such a let down in her storyline because she received one of the best looking and written endings. It was simply superb! PLUS, she was the ONLY character to receive 3 pictures for her ending. It was very well done. I loved the ending.

Gameplay wise, since Im no high-player gamer (nor casual), I had no problems with Sindels apparent terrible gameplay (which sucks because she was a top tier fighter in MK3). I thought her grab was one of the best-looking of the game, very cool. Too bad it was actually messed up.

I think she is a fun character to play with, I love her attacks.

Despite me being extremely happy with her return, I was also very disappointed.

The scream shriek didn’t look as fantastic as it did back then, it didn’t even sound as mysterious and evil, there was NO HAIR this time (I cursed the team for being so lazy), her fireball (like the scream) looked plain and simple, and she couldn’t even fly for a bit like Ermac! But she did get a fantastic foot-grab special attack. I thought its one of the best new specials of the game, stylish and effective.

Her fatalities were good but not really amazing. I love her shriek fatality, but I prefer the one of MK3, and the weapon fatality was very cool, one of the best actually (I like it more then the scream of this game), but not really THAT fascinating. Her Hara Kiri was no doubt superb. Sure its simple, but there something in that flying jump that makes it seem so wicked and painful. I love it.

Im guessing the team wanted to make-up for Sindels absence by making her a playable in Puzzle Kombat, where she has the most effective special, though her hair really screws up the game, lol. I also LOVE her in Konquest, were she is presented with very pretty pics and plays a significant role in the story.

Her weapon...I will never forgive them for not giving Sindel her well disserved and extremely popular fantasy among fans....THE WHIP! Oh well, at least the weapon she got, though not really that Sindelish for me, works well.

Overall, I was very happy to see the return of Sindel, but disappointed that it wasn’t as perfect as it could been. Still, she was very good for me. Im hoping for a more versatile story for the wicked queen in MKA!

MKA: “I hope she gets what she lacked in MKD!....”

MKA was, in all possible aspects, the biggest most horrible and dumbest disappointing Mk game of all time. For many many reasons. Having that said, its no surprise I wasn’t really that excited with Sindel or any of my faves, for they didn’t get their original classic moves, original fatalities, etc.

All that is left to hope for is her storyline, which I hope has NOTHING to do with her ending, because her ending in MKA (like almost all endings in MKA) was rather plain, simple, uninspired and involved another resurrection, one that I hope WE NEVER see in the games. Jerrod is cool and all but disserves to stay in his tomb. It was cool that they brought the Queen from the death, but making the same for Jerrod would suck.

Thank God they made her a Premium Edition special cover though, imo Sindel disserves it. What sucked though, is that we couldn’t see her in the PS2 game menu, but they added her for the MKA wii game were she looks much better in sexy red and with a new background. But it does suck that they didn’t give her a new pose/render like they did to Sonya. The deception render was cool and all but we were all already bored of those pics. We all wanted something new.

Also, she looks extremely beautiful in her VS pose. I still remember how we were all CRAZY and really dying to see new vs screen pics every day. It was something we were all looking forward too. Every time a new VS screen was released we would all talk about it, complain or praise it, etc. Sindel was heavily praised. She looks BEAUTIFUL!

MK8: The End of Sindel?

Hopefully not. Theres still a lot to explore, she has potential, and a lot can be done. Although I do feel its time to see Kitana as Queen, I don’t think its time for Sindel to go, nor to die an honorable death protecting her daughter...at least not yet. They must first make justice to her amazing character.

I hope she and the rest of the Edenians get a more developed plot that doesn’t involved the sole mission of protecting Edenia or ruling the realm, etc.

Its very cool to see you and I share similar thoughts about Mk. Im happy I finally wrote all this, for like I told you, I wanted to make a decent post on this very well elaborated thread (btw, your Sindel biography was very good! Good job! And I will respond to your pm as soon as I can ).

I don’t remember where I read it, but I did discover some interesting info on those 2 dots. They are some sort of symbol of sorcery . They mainly symbolize witches, and most firmly relate to magic powers or demonic attributes. Adds some cool trivia about Sindel.

Hey, that's great info. After reading your post, I tried looking for more concrete information on what her forehead markings mean, but all I was able to find out was that they are used by some people to protect the bearer from evil.

Whether she's wearing the black dots to represent witches and magical attributes or wearing them to repel evil, they both make sense for her.

She is witchy and has sourcerous powers, and she's also spiritual and might want to repel evil forces through such mystical ways. Either way, it just makes me like her more now.

I just recently stopped liking sindel. I love Mileena and Sheeva now. I like Li Mei but am not into much 3d games. I prefer Wargods and Samurai Spirits 64 to any 3d mk. I like Kitana and think she is really Mileena's sis. They look cute together.

oh, don't worry, it'll be the same thing... she "dies", she gets resurrected, she dies, she gets resurrected, she dies "for reals" and gets resurrected AGAIN... Seems this happens a lot in MK.
