Deathstroke: Awesome! He's badass it would be cool if you can knock his mask or like when you knock his mask off you see a skull like in Teen Titans with Slade. I doubt that though.

So they have all the original MK character besides Cage mirite? Cage better make it. And what a surprise at Raiden and Wonder Woman. But Kano and Deathstroke were kind of obvious >_>

I've read about 2395467237 different messages about people complaining about the inclusion of Kano. My question to all of you is that was it a surprise? I'm not surprised, I was glad when they announced his name.

I think we always knew that Raiden would be confirmed, but Kano is a pleasant surprise(IMO). Also it's about time that they confirmed Wonder Woman (a lot of people have wanted her for a long time now). As for Deathstroke, I don't know anything about him, so I guess he'd be an ok character...

I am 100% content with Kano being in.

Same with Raiden and Wonder Woman.

Happy with Deathstroke.

I don't think it's likely either, since from the low-quality render, he looks pretty faithful to his appearance in the comic books. In the comics, he looks somewhat like a badass Colonel Sanders with an eyepatch.



It's not so much Kano I personally despise (I actually kind of like him), it just seems to me that the roster is stacked in a way that a part of the MK story I don't particularly find compelling (the Special Forces and Crime Syndicates) is overrepresented compared to parts I like more.

Mileena, Reptile, Baraka, Quan Chi, Kung Lao...hell, even Cyrax or Kabal.

Superior concepts, more distinct designs, and better repsentations of Mortal Kombat. Let's face it, the only reason Kano is held in ANY regard as a character is because he had the dumb luck of being one of the "original seven."

He's not an icon. He's not a classic. He's just a reasonably known, old character.

I dunno, Kano and Rayden weren't really surprises to me. I'm glad they're included. Glad to see Deathstroke on there. Wonder Woman? Sure, I guess. It's nice to see the MK team consistently giving their women that hard jawed, man face appearance. Okay, not so much "nice" as disconcerting or off putting I suppose. Kitana looks good I guess, but then again she has a mask on.

I don't know if anyone saw the new pics from today up on IGN, but some of them looked pretty interesting. Green Lantern definitely seems to have a variety of special moves.

As for the last character on the MK side, I'll guess this:

Baraka (80 percent sure it's him)
Cage (70 percent sure it's him)
Kung Lao (60 percent sure it's him)

I just don't see the MK team putting Mileena in when the game has Kitana already and with two ninjas in already, I seriously doubt they'd put Reptile in. So to me, Baraka, Cage and Kung Lao are probably the most iconic of those left over.

I'd LOVE to see Shao Khan as well but maybe he's a boss perhaps?

This is a t-rated game. Considering Baraka's brutality, i highly doubt that he will make MK vs. DC. Actually, i'm always positive he won't be.


If you think logically about it, there's only three people that you can really choose from. Considering the timeline, Johnny Cage is dead. So, he's out. So, that leaves Reptile, Kung Lao, and Mileena. All playing a prominant role in the series during the MK2 - MK3 timeline.

The whole "between MK2 & MK3" thing was just meant to be a frame of reference...not something to be taken literally. Johnny Cage could definitely be in it, as could later characters like Quan Chi....whom, despite not being as "iconic" as some of the other sacred cows, is one of MK's main villains.

tru but why have Quan when you already have Shang. Plus, it's obivous our boss mash-up is Shao Kahn. Quan Chi isn't exactly iconic. If you showed a picture of him to a casual MK player, he might not recognize him.

quan chi is a big streach though based on how they've chosen characters thus far.

Deathstroke isn't exactly iconic either. And besides, we're living in a world where guys like Kano, Liu Kang, and Jax are considered icons. Obviously, the term "icon" is being used very broadly.

And Quan Chi, despite also being a sorcerer, is distinct enough from Shang Tsung. That's like saying Kitana and Sonya can't both be in the game because they're both female heroes.
I'm not expecting him to get in...just saying he'd be a better choice than a many of the alternatives.

i understand ur point of view but Ed Boon said Iconic characters. Quan Chi is not very iconic apparently. They're looking for characters that were in multiple games and other media.

Reptile = MK1, MK2, MK4, MK5, MK7, Shaolin Monks, Unchained.
Kung Lao = MK2, MK3, MK Gold, MK5, MK7, Shaolin Monks, Unchained.
Mileena = MK2, MK Gold, MK6, MK7, Shaolin Monks, Unchained.

They obviously wanted all the MK1 guys in. And there's nothing wrong with that, though if it were up to me neither Sonya, Kano, or Jax would be in (I know he's from MK2, im just sayin). I wouldn't have Johnny cage in either. I don't mind Shang Tsung being in, but in all honest I don't like his new design at all. He should never have a goatee, he should have a FuManChu. I didn't even recognize him when they released the render. I personally would have an updated MK2 design, with the MK1 look for an alternate.
Anyway, I have a few questions for the more informed than me.
1- Why are people saying there's only 1 more character to go, or one on each side? There's 2 more on each side to go right?
2- Has the MK guys confirmed that the boss is going to be an amalgam? Everyone's talking like it will be, but I havn't seen that info from an official source. I thought I heard boon himself say in a video interview that it would be a different boss depending on which side you're on.
3- Going with the "all MK1 characters" theory, does anyone think Goro will be included in some way? Sub Boss mabey?
4- If there are 4 characters left to announce, do you think all 4 of those will be normal characters, and bosses will be seperate? Or do you think the bosses will be included and playable and included in the 4 left to go?
Or it could be the 3rd option that there will be 4 more regular characters announced, AND the bosses, with Bosses being unlockable, or mabey not playable at all.

i don't think that there is any doubt that the MK characters introduced later have better stories and design but they're not nearly as well known as the ones that have been around. so for the dev team, yes the longer you've been around no matter how much you're hated, you're also iconic.

Another "iconic" debate.

I'm sick of it. Basically, "iconic" means "old" and "old" means MK1 and MK2. That's how it boils down to MK's "iconic" characters.

If you were to actually have a list of real iconic characters, you'd throw out people like Kano and Jax and include characters like Sindel, Quan Chi, Kenshi, Hotaru, and even Sareena and Li Mei, all of whom have some extremely passionate and well-deserved fan support.

But I will admit I'm glad Deathstroke the Terminator is in. I honestly thought he'd be passed over in favor of someone like Supergirl or even Hawkman or The Atom. They're far more "iconic" than he is.

Great, now all we need is Lobo, Azrael, and Bane from DC and Sareena, Mileena, Quan Chi, and Sektor from MK and I'm a happy camper.

Concerning the Wonder Woman image.... meh.

It didn't hate it with the strong, overwhelming passion that I loathe the "man-faced" Sonya image, but I can't say I'm particularly fond of her either. She looks so 2-dimensional against the much better rendered background, her colors on her uniform (like her tights) have almost now self-shadows or color variation, her skin looks, well, rather ugly, but the actual model itself, the base mesh, is very well done. Midway just seriously needs better texture artists on these renders.

For "The Most Beautiful Woman" in the DCU, it's a decent stab at DC's leading lady.

I gotta disagree. Li Mei and Sareena aren't icons of mortal kombat. You got popularity and iconic mixed up.

Quan Chi is both popular and iconic, HE WAS ON THE FRAGGIN MK4 ARCADE MACHINE. That is iconic in my book.

Sub Zero
Scorpion
Johnny Cage
Goro (Number 1 Most Iconic Character)
Baraka
Quan Chi

and thats it.

Other media much? Your argument is full of holes. The MK team clearly like Quan Chi a lot to put him in a game (MKSM) that many wouldn't have thought he had anything to do with. Plus he and Shang Tsung did things none of the other crummy villains (like Reptile and Mileena) ever did. Kill a hero. I like Reptile, but he's just never done anything of importance. Is he really that iconic outside of the main MK fanbase? Would a casual gaming fan really know him above Quan Chi? I would say that's a debate.

Deathstroke and Raiden Awesome... Wonderwoman and Kano okay... but Kung Lao, Cage, Kabal, Mileena, and Cyrax should be in this game... crap, now that's a dilemma... whatever, as long as they officially announce downloadable characters, I'm good...

does MKA count? i mean everyone was in that.

but anyway yeah quan chi is an MK icon but MK fans will buy this game regardless. so they just need to appeal to the casual gamer or the casual fighting game fan.

hence the characters they're choosing, the ones that were known at the height of MKs popularity.

For number 2 listen to the MKast its been confirmed for more than two weeks. Anyways, I hope Reptile makes this game

Anyway for the masses who don't know, there are two characters left on each side and I'm going to guess:

Of course, on the DC side, I wouldn't be surprised if they throw some curves and if you go by the ELEVEN clues from Kotaku, the only ones left would be Arch Villain and Epic Villain, which would be most closely matched by Lex Luthor and Darkseid (or possibly Doomsday), respectively.

the epic villian could also be braniac. i thinking darkseid is an unplayable boss.
