Do i ever agree with Chrome this time. This is just my personal opinion, appart from the overall design, story and symbolism i like both kenshi and kung lao due to the fact that i can relate to them, they seem real to some extent and especially kung lao because my fighting style is very similar to his, i really hope he won't be frowing frisbees i really do. Keep his hat throw and give him some good old fashion fighting styles like Shaolin Fist and Praying Mantis.

It'd be cool but he'd need a handle on his hat or something to have a good grip as he is swinging it.

I like both, but I prefer the hat.

Good stuff, bro.
Perhaps if he used the hat, it'd need to be self moving like in MKSM. Or he can hold it for some attacks and it can move by itself for others.
If not, then I would go with the broadsword or some other decent weapon.

I was also thinking, that kung lao's blade around the hat is pretty thick.
So what could also be a possibitly is that it de fringes from the hat pixel by pixel and when u whip it, it then entangles you kinda like a room full of wires.
Kinda like a web of wires if you catch my drift.
But every outlined pixel would consist of a defringed wire. br/>

I also had a crazy idea where kung lao could use the hat blade as a layerd frisby.
It could duplicate into layers of rings that way he could throw em like frisby shurikens.
Here's a example i did with Photoshop.

Lol! I'm being open minded and pointing out some ideas on how the hat could be used. I would prefer he had the sword and not the hat overall. I agree with others that the hat should be left as a projectile.

Should Kung Lao's weapon in MKA be his actual hat or his broadsword?
i would say it is more likely for hit hat to be made into a style as there are many styles needed for the amount of chars in MKA, and the broadsword could be used for another player.
Thaughts?

Keep it the way it was in MKDA. Only have the hat on Kung Lao's head, not on his back. But, then again, why not have them both as his weapon? Have it to where you can press a certain button in you weapon category to change them. For instance, L1 is used to change the weapon in PS2, and in Xbox . . . uh shit, I forgot. When you change to your weapon, you can press L1+whatever, and same for X-box ?+? to change from hat to broadsword. It would be like a double weapon select.

He should have his hat as a weapon its his trademark after all

even without the blades it would e easy to fight with because all you have to do is put it o their head and pull it down so they can't see and then you kick the crap out of them.

I kno its just a trailer but he was fighting Baraka with his Broadsword in the air sooo i think Midway will give him the Broadsword.
Actually i think it's a good idea. If im not mistaken he uses his hat as a weapon in MKSM in the brutallity mode. It looks very good and can be a nice twist to gameplay. Also it can be very interesting and cool when you see the moves of this kind of style. I imagine it like Tiras (soul calibur III) blade-ring but more brutal becouse it's smaller.

The problem lies in the believability of him holding it. He's holding it by the edge and surely it's going to slic off his hand at some point unless he's really careful.
I loved how it was used in MKSM and that would be great to see despite the above. As a style of it's own though, it would would need to be hevaily mixed in with non hat strikes if it were done, imo.

I would like to see the hat also. It is a quick weapon very brutal and can oWn. If they did give Kung Lao the hat it would be the same thing like Kitana's weapon in MKDA. If you throw it and you miss they don't come back. I know the hat is like a boomerang and can come back but to make the game more fair it wouldn't. It would also be a very short ranged weapon.
Honestly though they are going to give him the Broad Sword because it was his weapon in MKDA and with all the characters and options in the game you do have a variety of characters to choose from so you do not have to play as him all the time. The Broad-Sword had medium range and was a decent speed weapon.
I do have some complaints about the Broad-Sword but when it comes down to the point I have to admit that it is a good weapon that is basic and can deal alot of damage.

I'm not really sure about what he should use...
If he had his hat, it could be a good weapon. I am thinking he could use it similarly to Tira of Soul Calibur 3. But if he has his hat as his weapon, what will happen when he uses his Hat Throw attack? Perhaps he would automatically change to his other fighting style or maybe he would only be able to use kicking attacks, but that would ruin such a good weapon.
If he had the broadsword, it would be too similar to Dairou's Autumn Dao Maybe they could remove Dairou's Autumn Dao, but that weapon and Tombstone Drop are the only things Dairou has got going for him. The broadsword would be a good style for Kung Lao, and it wouldn't effect his Hat Throw move, but it is still too similar to Dairou's weapon.
If he had both Mantis and Shaolin Fist, what would Shujinko have?
KUNG LAO: Mantis
Shaolin Fist
SHUJINKO: Dan Tien Dao
???
I think Kung Lao should have Shaolin Fist (he is a Shaolin Monk after all) and [weapon]. Shujinko can have Mantis and Dan Tien Dao.

Like I said, if Kung Lao were to use Mantis and Shaolin Fist, Shujinko should use Pai Mei Quan, the White Eyebrow style of Kung Fu.

It looked decent in MKSM i think it would be good for 2 reasons
1. Its his signature mark
2. We have enough Sword type weapons in mk why not make the weapons more unique

Just because it's his signature does not mean it is should be overused, something that would be overused like that would just make people very tired of it very quick and second most of the people that were against the hat weapon said that he should have no weapon and two fighting styles instead.

But its never been overused it was only used in a brutality (mksm) and of course some of his finishing moves but mainly it was only used once and for a minimum amount of time. Reason 1 may not come across as being strong but 2 is definitely a problem in mk over use of swords

Wushu is a broad term for Chinese martial arts. If you're referring to contemporary Wushu, it's not really combat-oriented.

About the grip. He could hold the hat by it's round part where the head goes when he wears it. He could just hold it like he would hold a ball with one hand.

try that with one hat, and add 1 kg weight on the edges. lets see how you can move with that + constant strain on your hand. No. The hat is by no means a weapon.
