I heard another rumor that the red female ninja was Hornbuckle, according to the rumor, she was a super secret character in mk trilogy. apparently, according to the rumor, hornbuckle is not the green striped liu kang from the pit II, but a red female ninja that is super secret.
I guess skarlett is the other rumor explaining the mysterious red female ninja.

your both wrong
essentially she was a female ninja ERro MACro in MK2, but it was all rumour
then there was cybermac in MK3 a robotic ninja ERror MACro, also nothing but a rumour
the closest thing we have ever gotten skarlet in a real MK game is kitana's alt. in MKSM

Skarlet was a rumored hidden character from MKII (she doesn't really exist) who is a palette swap of the female ninjas in the game.
Hornbuckle was the other Liu Kang from MKII in the background of the Pit II fighting who is now known as Blaze, the character got it's name from the SNES version of the game where it had the hidden clues say "Who Is Hornbuckle?" and in the credits of the game after you beat it, was someone named Leanne Hornbuckle (also doesn't exist).

Yeah i thought the idea came from MKSM but then i realized Bezou made the comics before it was released so
i bet someone saw Bezou's comic then the guy was like hey i bet that was a glitch in MK2 just like ERMAC and then he told a guy and he told a guy and then people started seeing things and here we are at the current state.

It didn't start with MK:SM. The Skarlett rumor's been around for years...probably since MK2 first came out.
I think you hardly ever hear about it because it was confirmed to not exist early on.
