So far there has only been 1 official Mortal Kombat tournament, unless you cound MK5 as a real tournament which was won by Li Mei.

Mortal Kombat 4 was not a tournament. Quan Chi killed him. That ending was canon.

The tournament Li Mei was in in MKDA was one only with ppl from her village.

The only game with the Tournaments were MK1 and 2 wich Liu Kang both won. Since there hasn't been any tournaments since MK2, the title of MK Champ hasn't had a chance to change hands. Though I wonder if Liu Kang is still considdered the MK champ since he got killed? Or if there actually is no MK Champ now. I don't believe there is....

They never said what actually happened to Shinnok. The closest answer we've ever gotten was the 4 victory medals on Liu Kang's Tomb in Deception which impllies that he defeated Shinnok as well.

Personally, I think Shinnok was defeated by Kang...maybe with Raiden's help...after Quan Chi was dragged into the Netherealm by Scorpion.

MK4 can be counted as a tournament, and the reason is because of Liu Kangs four victory medals in MKD Liu Kang's Tomb. It wasn't a 'tournament' like MK1, you had to fight to end the threat of evil, like MK3 and MK4. However, people just say tournament, simply because its shorter than: Defending Earth agaisnt Evil.

Anyway, Liu Kang defeated Shinnok. MK3 and MK4 aren't tournaments. Liu Kang simply challenged Shinnok to Mortal Kombat, sort of like that Xiaolin Showdown show. Whether Raiden helped him or not is uncertain.
