Who has fought Reptile in the arcade version of MK1?
Don't worry about it if you have done it on the SNES or Genesis, arcade only.

Well I never had. Playing MK1 on MAME I never once saw the symbols going across the moon. I am sure it is to do with the amount of games played, or the length of time the machine has been on. Seeing as how exiting MAME is like turning the cabinet off, the symbols never appeared.

Anyway, I found a save file for MAME32 that works with MAM32 o.56. I track down that version of the emulator and used the save file.

It put me on the character select screen and I could choose who I wanted. It then goes to the battle plan with the next match being against whoever on The Pit. The symbols are going across the moon.

I beat the opponent twice, double flawless with fatality and the message appears.

Now it gets strange. You are in the pit bottom as expected but in the name bar for Reptile it says Scorpion. I have gotten to the fight several times since with different characters and it always says Scorpion.

Reptiles green is lighter than I had expected and it looks like it is being coloured in real time as it glitches revealing small bits of yellow like it is Scorpion.

He moves faster and has both sets of moves (Sub's and Scorpions, again as expected). I let him beat me and it says Reptile wins in text but no speech.
I got to him again and won and it gave me the bonous for beating Reptile, mentioning him by name. I did Johnny Cage's fatality and Reptile's head was Sub Zero's.

So in closing, is this really Reptile or some kind of hacked saved game that simulates Reptile? I have never heard anything about it having Scorpions name in the energy bar. His green looks wrong to me, but never having seen him in the arcade version before I don't know if this was how it was done.

I've never gotten to Reptile. According to information, Version 4.0 and up have Reptile. It takes 40 matches to enable shadows, and the match at the Pit after that is when you'll see them, though I still didn't get to Reptile (cheating didn't help).

I read version 3 and up. The save file I downloaded only works for version 5.

Reptile was aa glitch, he was suppose to look like that. he never had a recorded sound for his name in the arcade and the lifebar was never altered to show his name. I think he was originally a glitch or something iono. The programmers of mk never had a color palatte made for reptile.

Reptile first appeared in rev 3. Rev 4 added the clues he drops down and gives and rev 5 allowed you do use block for Fatalities(so Sonya could get to him).

He is not a glitch. He was meant to be in the game and his name is mentioned in the game.

I have got to him many times over the years, but off the top of my head I cannot remember what the lifebar says or if the annoucer says his name. It isn't glitchy though. If he looks messed up then there's something wrong with the cheat or whatever.

I know he isn't a glitch. He doesn't look badly messed up, just lighter than I had expected (still definitely green) with slight yellow stray pixels. Looking at him again more closely it could be a colour pallet, just not coloured in with much care. The stray yellow pixels seem to be the same all the time.

I fought Reptile on the Genesis version of the game only, and his lifebar did say Scorpion in it. He was still fun to fight though.

I have all the versions of the MKI arcade games. It has always said scorpion on reptiles lifebar I don't know why. And on versions 3.0 and 4.0 I have gotten reptile on both versions you have to get a lot of wins before the shadows start flying across the moon. I was wondering the save file you have for the mame 32 does this enable you to save your progress in the game or what I was just wondering, because that's interesting how you say that about reptile being slightly yellow.

In MAME you can save your progress. Someone out there in the world played the game and kept saving until they got the moon shadows. Then they simply took that save file and put in on the net.

It only works with version 0.56 of MAME which is OK as the MK games were perfectly emulated by that stage.

THIS IS NOT A ROM LINK. THERE ARE NO ROMS AT THE URL

I got it from this site after typing 'Mortal Kombat', 'Reptile' and 'MAME' in google.

http://www.mameworld.net/states/

As the site says, and I have said you need MAME32 0.56 I can't remember where I got that version, but google did help. Wasn't that easy.

Damn it's been so long since I've played MK1, but does the announcer say, "Reptile Wins", "Goro Wins", or "Shang Tsung Wins"

Not sure about Reptile.

But he doesn't say Goro or Shang Tsung. When Goro wins there's either silence(on most home ports) or Tsung claps. On mosth ome ports Tsung is just silent when he wins but on arcade he laughs.

I fought reptile, its pretty easy when i use sonya i just keep usong sonic ray until it says finish him and then i do her fatality. After all that time i have to be in the pitand then get a double flawless then do any fatality and u cant use block! He's not actually that hard i have gotten to him many times and only lost once. Too bad you cant get him as a character when you beat him. You just get 10,000,000 points and that might get you on the high score list i dont know......

I don't think anyone has ever been bothered by getting on the high score board of MK1.

Not being able to save in Midways game is a 'feature' of the newer MAMEs.

I just searched for it again and I am fairly sure this is where I got MAME32 0.56 from

Why would they take out the ability to save? That doesn't make any sense.

They didn't actually take save state out, they just did something to it that makes it screw up whenever you try to use it with MK. I remember reading an update sheet that said changes were made to the chunk of code for the midway hardware and that was around the time that new versions had messed up state saving so I guess they did something to improve the gameplay that also messed up the program features. Its really annoying and all the mames I've tried since .64 have been like that. Luckily, the record input still works for things like combo vids :P

Speaking of the high scores. I got a 111 wins on my MKI arcade game. I just decided to see if I got a lot of wins it might trigger ermac to come out but nothing. Just thought I would say this.
