Ed Boon Confirmed for DC FanDome Event
Game developer to appear at virtual event.

It will be a star-studded event when the DC FanDome virtual convention goes live for 24 hours on August 22nd! We spotted Baraka in the teaser trailer, but a new guest list released by DC Comics promises a whole lot of special celebrity guests, including NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon! Take a look:

NetherRealm Studios has established close ties with DC Comics as the team behind a franchise launched with the Injustice: Gods Among Us fighting game. DC also published comics based on Mortal Kombat X, with a subsequent ambitious comics project rumored to have been explored for a time.

Boon's name can be spotted scrolling through at the 6 second mark, confirming the developer's involvement in the massive multimedia celebration. We've isolated a still shot below, just in case you had trouble seeing it:

Boon already joked about rubbing shoulders with Dwayne Johnson in the alphabetical list, quipping to Twitter: "That's right, I'm on a panel with Dwayne Johnson! #NotTrue #AlphabetListing" He may've ruled out a panel with the upcoming live-action Black Adam star, but he hasn't revealed what we should expect from the fan event appearance.

It could be a good time to reveal some upcoming skin packs: The Klassic Femme Fatale Pack will be released just three days after the event, with All Hallow's Eve skins to follow shortly after for Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath owners.

Injustice has also just returned with Injustice: Year Zero: a digital-first prequel comic that will reveal the fate of the Justice Society, and the reason for The Joker's infamous attack that drove Superman to establish his Regime. Series writer Tom Taylor is one of the names confirmed in the guest list released to social media. Take a closer look below:

Ed Boon will make his appearance even as rumors of a potential sale of WB Games casts an uncertain future. Mortal Kombat and the Chicago based development studio became part of the Warner Brothers empire -- which also owns DC Comics -- in a 2009 purchase. Microsoft have reportedly expressed interest.

What do you realistically expect to see from Ed Boon at the DC FanDome? What would you like to see? Share your thoughts in the comments below and discuss more from the 24 hour event in the DC Universe Injustice forum.

Mortal Kombat 11 Adds RoboCop Announcer Voice
Peter Weller calls kombat!

Actor Peter Weller brought added authenticity to guest fighter RoboCop by lending his voice and likeness to the immortal movie character. Now you can hear more of his intonations by unlocking the newly added RoboCop Announcer Voice!

Despite being mostly covered in the iconic RoboCop suit, we learned Peter Weller underwent an extensive and illuminating scanning process at NetherRealm Studios. What we didn't realise was that he'd also recorded a complete announcer option for the game you can currently unlock for 1,000 Time Krystals in the Premium Shop!

RoboCop is a featured guest included with Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath expansion DLC, perfectly matching up against franchise rival Terminator, who sadly lacks the genuine voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger, despite sharing his likeness from last year's sequel release Terminator: Dark Fate.

Selecting the RoboCop announcer option will find Peter Weller reading the rights of every match with his recognizably emotionless voice. We can only suppose OCP has updated his protocols to include the fighters and routine rituals of kombat! Come quietly to the comments below to share your thoughts. Check out the Mortal Kombat 11 forum for more, or there will be... trouble.

Baraka Spotted in DC FanDome Event Trailer
Baraka makes the big time!

It looks like Baraka has become one of DC Comics' biggest names -- at least according to the DC FanDome trailer. Mortal Kombat 11's toothy Tarkatan made a surprising appearance in the video hyping this month's virtual convention event. Take a closer look:

Blink and you'll miss it! Baraka sharpens his blades around the 18 second mark, appearing on a virtual screen to the right of picture for close to 2 seconds.

Before we get too excited about the unlikely association: DC FanDome has been hyping DC properties in a variety of multimedia platforms. The Baraka featured is the previously released Killer Croc Skin, referencing a well known Batman villain who also had a transition cameo in Injustice 2. We've included a screenshot below:

Injustice has just made its return with the 14-part digital-first Year Zero series to tell the backstory to the Injustice world. Mortal Kombat 11 did not receive a DC Comics tie-in series, but there was at one time another ambitious project in the works at the publisher.

The 24 hour FanDome event takes place -- just a few days before the release of the upcoming Klassic Femme Fatale Skin Pack. Could an MK11 reveal be included? Injustice Returns With Year Zero Comic Series
Digital first prequel series out now!

The world of Injustice: Gods Among Us has made its anticipated return, but it isn't as the latest NetherRealm Studios fighting game. The franchise is back for another go around with a 14-part prequel comic called Injustice: Year Zero. Read on for details:

Writer Tom Taylor has returned for the digital first series that takes place before the conflict of the first Injustice video game. It will be a timely release for those struggling to access print comics during a time of pandemic, but as Taylor told The Hollywood Reporter, it's also an opportunity to tell an escapist story set before the corruption of Superman and the DC heroes.

"I really didn't feel like this was the right time for stories of a dictator Superman. My favorite comics are an escape from the real world, and the real world has more than enough power-hungry men stomping their will on the people. I wanted to write something where my heroes were truly heroic. The only way to do so in the Injustice universe, was to check in before Superman's fall and before Batman and Superman's friendship was broken."

Injustice: Year Zero will tackle some of the most glaring holes in the Injustice premise, including revisiting the reason for The Joker's fateful trip to Metropolis, which ended with the murders of Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane, and Superman's unborn son.

The absence of reason behind these events, which set off the Injustice concept by triggering Superman to begin his totalitarian Regime, were a sticking point when MK Online reviewed the opening chapters: "You get a sense that there is - or should be - more to this story than we know. Joker's reasons for being in Metropolis -- a trip that includes the casual, quickly forgotten murder of Superman's pal, Jimmy Olsen -- aren't explained. To think a comic focused on backstory would gloss over this catalytic detail seems like a discredit to the creators involved. Joker may have a reputation for being a wildcard, but his actions are rarely so incongruous or shallow..."

Taylor also aims to answer what happened to the Golden Age heroes of the Justice Society, whose fate was teased in the first game with background cameos, but is yet to be fully divulged.

Injustice: Year Zero cover art features JSA heroes The Green Lantern (Alan Scott), The Flash (Jay Garrick), and Black Canary (Dinah Drake). A future digital cover also reveals Amazing-Man punching Nazi Germany's leader Adolf Hitler in a reference to classic comics of the 1940s. See below:

Introduced retroactively in All-Star Squadron #23 (1983); William Blake Everett was a competitor at the 1936 Olympic Games who was later caught in an explosion in Cyclotron's lab, granting him strange super-powers. Able to absorb the properties of anything he touched, he was deployed by the villainous Ultra-Humanite, before joining up with the WWII allied heroes in the All-Star Squadron to fight he Axis powers, and later join efforts in the American Civil Rights movement.

Doctor Fate was included in the playable Injustice 2 roster, along with a premier skin for The Flash. The modern day daughter of Black Canary was also playable. Retro versions of the Justice Society characters can be seen in the opening panels of Year Zero Chapter One.
