Mortal Kombat 11 Klassic MK Movie Skin Pack Trailer
They're already here!

Twenty-five years after Mortal Kombat thrilled fans on the big screen: three of its stars are making the jump into video games in Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate! Watch the trailer reveal for the Klassic MK Movie Skin Pack right here:

Fan-favourite actors from the 1995 movie are lending their likeness and voice to three new premier skins available now as a stand alone purchase for $5.00! Each skin captures the essence of their cinematic counterpart with designs inspired by the work of Costume Designer Ha Nguyen!

Bridgette Wilson-Sampras doesn't need back-up as "Island Bound" Sonya Blade, Linden Ashby is the real deal as "Hollywood Kombatant" Johnny Cage, and there can be only one Christopher Lambert as the sage "Protector of Earthrealm" Raiden who also appeared in French MK11 commercials.

The legendary cinematic kombatants will find the familiar likeness of Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa waiting for them as Shang Tsung. The beloved theatrical villain already reprised his role for the first Kombat Pack and as the host of The Krypt mode featuring many movie references scattered throughout Shang Tsung's island.

New Art Teases Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Movie Skins
Brilliant! Just brilliant!

Earlier this year the Mortal Kombat movie celebrated its 25th anniversary and it looks like Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate will be marking the occasion with new character skins! NetherRealm Studios teased the addition with vanity shots of three of the film's leading characters. Take a look:

Movie-based skins have been a poorly kept secret in the age of data-mining, with in-game code betraying the inclusion of voice acting for Bridgette Wilson-Sampras as Sonya Blade, Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage, and Christopher Lambert as Raiden. Mortal Kombat socials played it coy with teaser art, but Ed Boon put it all into context via Twitter.

Mortal Kombat 11 already featured the likeness of film star Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung in the first downloadable character released from the original Kombat Pack.

Tagawa's voice can be heard guiding and chiding players through The Krypt, and fans eagerly anticipate the expected release of a Shang Tsung announcer pack. There are also rumors of another movie-inspired announcer pack.

Mileena & Rambo Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Render Art
Design spotlight!

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate has arrived with cross-gen krossplay support and a free upgrade for next generation consoles, but the klassics aren't being forgotten! Kombat Pack 2 brings back perennial favourite Mileena and action legend John Rambo! Take a closer look at their modern-retro renderings in official character art:

Mileena's design pays homage to some of her earliest digitized appearances, but adapts the belted accent on solid colour with a new approach. Layered fabrics give texture to an iconic pinkish-violet base, simplifying ideas we saw experimented with in Mortal Kombat X concept art.

The wrapped tunic matches Mortal Kombat 11's more modest aesthetic, and creates what feels like an achievable look for live-action. It will be interesting to see if there is any design confluence with wardrobe worn by Sisi Stringer, who was cast as Mileena last year for the upcoming feature film reboot.

A large, full face mask isn't just a conscientious flourish for our infectious times. The face gear offers full coverage for Mileena's now lipless Tarkatan maw, hiding the assassin's true nature until it's too late! A choppy hairstyle gives Mileena personality, but look closely and you'll notice a model that could very easily pass for Kitana -- a klassic conceit for the half-breed Edenian clone!

Customizable gear options will allow players to emphasize their favourite aspects of Mileena, with base costumes ranging from a helmet Shao Kahn inspired Empress look -- to a scrappy, half-shorn design that plays up her Tarkatan heritage! You can see some of these elements in the Mileena gameplay trailer.

John Rambo boasts the photographic likeness of Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone and is seen here with an iconic design plucked right out of Rambo III.

The character doesn't dress for style, but fans will be able to mix and match various customizable options and recreates looks from the various films. If you prefer a red headband, rest assured it's in there. You'll also be able to pass through town in a military issue jacket or improvised gear right out of First Blood. You can see more in the Rambo gameplay trailer!

Mortal Kombat Producer Forecasts Movie Delays
Pandemic delays reshoots & release.

The long awaited Mortal Kombat theatrical reboot is expected to undergo indeterminate delays as a result of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. Producer Todd Garner commented on COVID-19's impact, which pushed back scheduled reshoots and delayed rumored plans for a teaser trailer. Read on for more info:

Theatrical release of Mortal Kombat was brought forward to January 2021 as of late last year, but according to Garner, will now officially be rescheduled once cinemas have begun staging a wide re-opening to the public.

The threat of peer to peer community transmission of the potentially fatal COVID-19 coronavirus strain has led to theatres closing around the world amid restrictions on public indoor gatherings. Australia, where the film began shooting last year, imposed harsh public lockdown measures back in March, when re-shoots were scheduled to begin, according to the Broken Road Productions producer's tweets.

A wide slate of cinematic tentpoles have faced existential crisis as they fail to find a stable release window. Christopher Nolan's Tenet broke early from the back in August, enduring a modestly successful $350 million box office. The director hopes this won't leave studios gun shy, telling Los Angeles Times, "I am worried that the studios are drawing the wrong conclusions from our release — that rather than looking at where the film has worked well and how that can provide them with much needed revenue, they’re looking at where it hasn’t lived up to pre-COVID expectations and will start using that as an excuse to make exhibition take all the losses from the pandemic instead of getting in the game and adapting — or rebuilding our business, in other words."

Today Warner Bros announced a different strategy for Wonder Woman 1984, which will open domestically in available theatres December 25th, with a simultaneous streaming debut on HBO Max. It will open to international markets December 16th, where HBO Max is not yet available.

The superhero sequel is expected to concede a significant portion of 2017's $821.8 million Wonder Woman box office, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers has remained in dialogue with cinema chain AMC to ensure some lifeline is provided. Director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot urge those who can to see it on the big screen as intended. The multi-platform release may provide a future model available to Mortal Kombat, if successful.

Seres co-creator and NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon recently revealed that he's seen a cut of the film. He spoke to the difficulties facing any theatrical release this year, but had no further clues to offer.

Mortal Kombat is directed by Simon McQuoid, with James Wan on board as producer since 2015. The cast includes The Dark Knight actor Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Tadanobu Asano and Mehcad Brooks as Raiden & Jax, and Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade.
