Who do you think is the worst boss and sub-boss from the mk ps2 and xbox era?

No replies eh? In my opinion, the worst sub-bosses are Motaro and Moloch.
Motaro comes off as an uninspired filler character and Moloch obviously looks like Jar-Jar Binks on steroids. They might as well have used Shrek as the sub-boss.
The worst boss characters would have to be Shinnok (MK4), Shang Tsung and Quan Chi (Deadly Alliance), Onaga (Deception) and Blaze (Armageddon).
Shinnok sucks as a boss character since there is not much about his looks that would warrant him to be the final boss character, he comes off as too plain looking and dull, in a word: boring. Same goes with Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, they look too much like average mk fighters so to use them as bosses in the game seems forced and cheesy at best. Onaga is another character though who seems to have the potential to fill the vacuum left by MK era Shang Tsung and MK 2 Shao Kahn but alas, the MK Team botched this up by making him look too much like another boss character (True Ogre from Tekken 3). Finally we come to Blaze who is probably the crappiest boss in all MK games. The formula for Blaze is: take Goro and Kintaro's roaring antics, couple it with the beefed up look of Moloch and Motaro, and presto, you have the stupid and horribly fucked up boss character named Blaze.
Just tryin' to kill time here.

How can describing one's appearance make a difference on how horrible they are in the game?

How in the world does Moloch look like a buffed up Jar Jar Binks? Last time I checked, Binks had two eyes not three. Also, he has Orange/Gray/White skin not blue. Also, long ears on Moloch? Okay...

Motaro is uninspired? Tisk tisk...

Shinnok sucks as a boss because his MK4 appearance didn't strike you as boss material? Shinnok is a fallen god who was banished to the Netherrealms, freed by Quan Chi, took over Edenia, declared war of the Gods and hope to seek revenge against Raiden doesn't matter to you, just his attire? How does one's clothes make one suck despite the crapload of things that Shinnok did makes him one of the most interesting characters MK has to offer?

Then you say something about Shang Tsung and Quan Chi being average fighters... Shang Tsung is a fighter the last time I checked who he was... I don't think their stories matter in your perspective also since you say that they're forced as bosses and are cheesy. What?

Shang Tsung returning as a boss was something I liked, and partnering up with one of the most mysterious characters was also interesting to see. What did you wanted them to look like? Giant transforming Power Rangers or something?

Onaga has no resemblance to True Ogre. I do not see how a giant horned lion-faced demon with goat legs have any resemblance to Onaga who is pure dragon. So they have long horns and wings? What about Onaga's gameplay, what about the background of that character does that matter?

And then we come to Blaze... Blaze is certainly not a combination of Goro and Kintaro, Moloch and Motaro. So basically if that was true, Blaze would be a giant four-armed, four-legged monster with a giant ball chain in one hand, a good percent of being human, part dragon, part tiger, part horse part Oni... Yeah, that's Blaze all right... I can see it right now.

Dude, I don't think appearance at all has to do with anything of bosses being sucking... Otherwise your thread's title would be called "Worst Boss and Sub-Boss appearance" since all you're really doing is ranting off on how crappy each boss looks like. To be honest, all these bosses are perfectly fine to be bosses even if they're wearing the tackiest set of clothes. Really.

Well, ice b, thanks for the reply. To be honest, I think you're right, I guess the new bosses and sub-bosses, post MK II are perfectly fine after all. I think I was just looking for some originality in the characters, some new injection of fresh ideas into the boss characters. I guess I was trying to recapture that feeling when I first played the original MK in the arcades where Goro and old Shang Tsung were still the bosses. Such a rush it gave you when you fought these characters. Whereas now it's just by the numbers "beat the crap out of 'em" whenever you fought the new antagonists.
I guess the problem with the new bosses is that they need something to separate them from the old bosses. Moloch for example, he flails his arms and roars whenever he wins a match. Same with Blaze. But after a weekend of playing the 3d MK's, I think they're alright glasses

Moloch for sure in the sub-boss catergory. And Motaro was quite annoying with his horse-like war cries...lolol....

As far as main boss....hmmm....Shinnok in MK 4...LAME! Or I'd even roll with Shang and Quan-Chi in MKDA. Don't get me wrong, I dig Shang and Quan as characters, just not as bosses (with the exception of Shang in MK1). They didn't really strike me as being "boss" characters.

Hmmm. Worst for WHAT? There are various aspects...

Kahn is the most imposing boss regarding the looks, attire, and weapon, yet he's the cheapest bitch of them all, plus his special moves are more suitable for a shokan than for someone with a status as prominent as emperor.

Shang Tsung can look great in the role of a boss, to the extent that you'd believe that Tsung, with all the attire, manners, and devastating magic gamewise, can easily bear a role of a ruler as well as a sorcerer, whereas Quan Chi can't be said to fit into anything higher than a cunning arch sorcerer. However, Tsung, the last time he was a boss, didn't play his role well, lacked morphs, didn't fight all that well, moreover, proved to be way less of a challenge than Moloch or even some of the earlier fighetrs in the ladder. Palace and prominence were his great atributes but it simply wasn't enough for an authentic 'boss' character. It was MK1 where he reached his peak, excluding the lack of fatalities and combos.

Shinnok does incite ominous feelings being a fallen elder god, but again: no special terrain for the final fight with him, no original combos, no impersonations, and no above-average damaging hits? In my book, that's hardly a character whom I'd call a boss if I didn't know from the story: it's a regular character. Hell, I even used to relent my moves a bit when I fought him, lest he should die too easily. Fatalities are the one thing that he always attracted me with, though.

Blaze is a rather refreshing change in the whole franchise, being an elemental (and me specifically liking them as mythical creatures). His way of fighting and his moves are great, looks are a bit Astaroth-ish, way of dying when you beat him forced and unoriginal: overall, a decent boss. Not stellar, but decent.

I'm excluding Onaga as I never happened to play MKD:

I think the worst boss was... Shang Tsung/Quan Chi... lame, they usually have a powerful boss like Shao Khan or Onaga. The worst sub boss would probably be... Noob-Smoke! LAME.

worst sub boss was defineltly noob/smoke. i dont get why ppl are dissing motaro so much i tot he was a great sub-boss and was actually fairly hard to beat in mk3. shinnok is a great character with a great story but didnt get enough recognision (i cant spell) so people didnt really know much about him. but it was the gameplay in 4 that screwed him over. he had no special moves to give him any character and was piss easy to beat. i liked the deadly alliance just because they arent superior in size doesnt make them a shit boss

For me...
Worst Boss= Shang Tsung/Quan chi
could have been great if it was a tag team fight with two life bars

Worst Sub-Boss= Noob/Smoke
I really don't know why these guys where sub-bosses? they should have been just regular characters.

I hated all the times I had to fight Motaro in the MK3 era the reasons are... he is annoying as hell sounding like a freaking rhino screwing a freaking elephant, his moves and mobility are so cheap its funny. he teleports grabs you punches you across the freaking small ass stage you fight him in, launches projectile then tailwhips you and repeatatly does that till your dead

now for the worst boss id say the new mk9 Shao Khan who is epic but as hellsad

I think the worst sub boss in MK was MKI1 Goro. I never found him intimidating or hard to beat. In MK4 he was faaaar better, i still think that was the best Goro they have made with a look that was not so ridiculous and being stronger. Sadly, that game has the worst boss, and not because Shinnok is a bad charachter, because i really like him and was great in MKSM, but because he was a normal charachter with no special moves. And he looked horrible. I was dissapointed with Shang Tsung and Quan Chi in MKDA, as they were just regular charachters, i expected them to be something like Noob-Smoke but with two health bars (wich is what i expected Noob Smoke to have as well, but it's ok, as they are a sub boss not a main boss). I didn't like Blaze all that much as a boss, but he wasn't that bad either.

I think Blaze is bad and I never really liked Shao Kahn either, but Shang Tsung and Quan Chi are the worst to me. For sub-bosses, I really didn't dislike any of them.

The bosses/subbosses of that era... do NOT include MK4 and MKG (you mentioned PS2 and Xbox... not PSX and N64).

MKDA:
Shang Tsung
Quan Chi
Moloch

MKD:
Noob-Smoke
Onaga

MKA:
Moloch
Kintaro
Motaro
Goro
Shao Kahn
Onaga
Blaze

Now, the wrost boss of all time I would say is Blaze. He fights like a cheap-ass pussy bitch-made *****. Onaga made more sense than this flaming buffoon.

That's not to say the boss combination of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi was boring. They should have made those two a tag-team to represent a TRUE deadly "alliance."

It's hard for me to choose the worst sub-boss, honestly. I mean, we have such a long laundry list in MKA. I would have to vote on Moloch, because he was such a great concept which could have been executed a little bit better.

.
..
...
.... BUT if we want to point out the worst boss OF ALL TIME, hands down, it goes to Shinnok in MK4. Of all the cool moves they could have implemented using shit from MKM:SZ, he was just some Shang Tsung knock off who couldn't even go through with the character morphs.

Deadly Alliance for sure. I mean who actually cares for Moloch lol. And Shang Tsung? I mean I'm not hating on him or anything but I have to say he was the least threatening out of all the boss characters. Not including MK1 Shang of course.

I would say the worst sub-boss from the xbox/ps2 era was Motaro from Mortal Kombat Armageddon. The main reason was because we went from being a challanging centaurian in Mortal Kombat 3 (and it's variants) to just a two legged push-over. I honestly hate how they took out Motaro's hind legs, or just half of his body just so he'd be scripted in as any of the other characters. Yeah, I know the story behind it is that the Shokan placed a spell on their entire race to make them all bipedal, but I think it was just a lame excuse to not add what is the full glory of Motaro to Mortal Kombat Armageddon.

MKDA:

Moloch: Shitty character and is more boss then Shang Tsung and Quan Chi

Shang Tsung and Quan Chi: Nothing special

MKD:

Noob-Smoke: Same shit

Onaga: A pain in the ass but beatable

MKA:

Goro: Not as hard as he was in MK1 and MK4

Kintaro: Fucking hate this character but easy to beat in this one

Motaro: Pretty easy

Shao Kahn: Nothing much

Moloch: At least he's not op as he was in MKDA

Onaga: Looks like they nerfed him in this one

Blaze: Same as MKD Onaga
