Today I bring you what is yet the longest Mortal Kombat tribute video ever made. I started this project as a simple combo video, but it evolved into something much deeper and meaningful. The glittering jewel known as Mortal Kombat 5: Deadly Alliance changed my life in more ways that I could hope to imagine. I knew from the first day that I played it, I had to express my love for the game beyond just posting about how I enjoyed it and who the coolest character was. The artistic and aesthetic beauty of the model and level design, as well as the balanced, fast, and fun gameplay exposed me to a universe that I had never thought possible.

I would like to thank my partners on this project, Juggernaut, JFCalibur88, Konqrr, for contributing videos and support, and ultimately having faith in this movie. And also Sub-Zero_7th, who perhaps has a deeper knowledge about this game than any other person alive, lol.

I must thank Konqrr again, HUGE ADMIRATION for hosting this video directly on his site... TRUELY a king amongst men....

Yeah, great vid,awesome combos,holy game!I still dont belive Nukes beated Kung Lao's 92% wall combo and Mokap's open air and corner ones.It's just amazing!And i can't miss Raiden's 40% wall combo.Magnificent work!More important is that this game is still alive and there are people who are interested in playing it and doing crazy stuff.Here i want to thank everybody who are involved in creating this combo vid.Without their help it would have never come to this.Mostly i would like to thank to Nukes for editing the whole video and Konqrr for hosting the movie.Respect!
LOL yes there are a ton of combos that are not posted anywhere in the web as they were just discovered while making the video!! i forgot to mention this!

at some point i will go through the video and count all of the combos that were never posted, and then post them so that you can learn how to do them.

also i cant believe no one found raiden's 40% either, i was shocked when i tried for it and it worked!!

thank you juggernaut!! you helped me out as well!! i really needed you for those cyrax glitches, out of ring glitches, and the quan chi move before round videos. very nice man thank you so much.

there are a number of things that i will do differently in the next video i make, for MK:A, mainly the compression and de-interlacing.

if you watch cyrax's part, when i do the glitch throw against scoprion on the dragonfly stage, that is how the next video will likely look, the de-interlacing is much better there...

the MK:A video will be even better!!

I have a few questions concerning the content of that video. Are the multiple throws by Quan Chi, that other girl, and Nitara "infinites", or are they blockable? I tried out the Qaun Chi one against the CPU, and sometimes it worked for a bit and other times it was blocked. So I'm not sure if the CPU was just being stupid when it appeared to work or if it was actually unblockable. And this regards the mutiple kiss of deaths of Sonya, the stomps of Dramin, and the fan lifts of Katana -- are they "time infinites"?

Finally, when you play against other humans, do you guys make a deal not to exploit the infinites and glitches, such as Bo's puke puddle infinite and Scorp's shove and hellfire?

The throwing is blockable, but a tactic on the CPU and how dumb it is.

Bo puke puddle after combo is an infinite.
Frost ground freeze after slide is an infinite.
Drahmin backdash ground pound juggle is an infinite.
Kitana fan lift is a time infinite.
Sonya kiss is limited and can only be used as many times as you saw in the vid.
Scorpion's shove and hellfire is only a 50/50 tactic as they can jump cancel forward to avoid the hellfire, but in doing so set themselves up for a spear that catches them in the air.

If you want to play without the various gameplay aspects you don't like, discuss it with your opponent. Otherwise don't make up rules to have a "Special Olympics" session of the game, it's lame.

First - 2 new 32% open air combos for Blaze:
Hapkido: 2,3,cs,2,3,3,cs,u+4,3, df+3/bdb+2 = 11 hits 32% damage

Fourth - i'm not sure about this one.Sometimes i can escape cyrax's close bomb after 1,1,b+1,cs,close bomb and that way avoiding the following throw in sambo.However jumping back makes you vulnerable to attacks like b+2,f+2, u+2/cs.So is 1,1,b+1,cs,close bomb,2 escapable?Link to the vid: http://rapidshare.de/files/25561655/cyrax_escape_bomb.avi.html
konqrr is absolutely right, the quan chi and nitara throws are blockable, therefore not infinites, but the maximum cpu has a problem blocking them, and since MKDA is not online, the CPU idiocy is quite noteworthy. the li mei throw, klock kick, throw, is another example, you can see the computer block the kartwheel and then try to attack, but li mei is able to throw before most strikes connect.

the sonya kiss of death is actually a time infinite i believe. konqrr says that it can only be done the amount of times that i showed in the video, but what surprised me was that he believes the kitana fan lift to be an infinite, i can only do that exactly 5 times before it doesnt work anymore... so i personally think the sonya kiss of death is the time infinite, and the kitana fan lift is the one that can only be used a limited number of times. try it out and tell me what you find!

about cyrax, the 11,b1,cs, close bomb, throw after explosion is not blockable, but it doesnt do as much damage as we though at first. the clip you see in the video was only included like that because the model screwed up so i left it in there. i actually grab scorpion before the bomb goes off.

very nice work juggernaut. i will watch those videos right now. that blaze combo, is still 32, i included a blaze 32 in the video, you scared me into thinking that i missed a high combo or something, lol.

lets have a discussion on de-interlacing. there are many methods but 2 of the most popular are interpolated and blending fields. the method i used for this video, and should not have, is the interpolated method. here, the frames are 'averaged' and the motion is sharp but you lose the smoothness of the action.

the 'blend fields together' is what i should have done, it keeps the motion smooth but it slightly blurs the video, however you can apply a sharpen filter to counter this effect. all videos i do from now on will feature blend fields de-interlacing.



the video features interpolated de-interlacing, the action is sharp but not as fluid because the frames are 'averaged'. i should have used 'blend frames together' and the action would have looked smoother.

i know it kills me inside : ( one little mistake like that.

Hey nukes I finally watched the enitre video and I liked it. I do have some comments and suggestions but I don't want it to look like I'm picking at your project for the heck of it. At college we would critique other students projects world wide as well as our own. In fact, the entire board of cinema would watch our presentation and grill us over the fire. It sucked but it helped us look at our work in different perspectives. It's easy to get very attached to your project and then take comments as "attacks". It was hard for me to take it from the board of cinema but in hindsight it helped me and the other students out a lot. If you want my feedback I will give it to you. Maybe just in a pm so the mods don't think I'm starting a slamfest or something. Let me know if your interested nukes. Later.

i am very happy with this video besides the de-interlacing which could have been much better, however i thought the music was excellent, the combos and content were all there, and the pace of the action was very fast.

what exactly did you mean by grilling me over the fire? were you not satsified with this project?

the de-interlacing is the only problem i have with this movie, other than that, im very satisfied with it.

hey jfcalibur, i just read your email man. make sure you can get the file to play correctly before you say something about quality or anything else you feel, i mean you mentioned to me that you couldnt even get the file to play completely.

here are some things i recommened to you and anyone who is having trouble getting the file to play.

first of let me say i downloaded the video myself from konqrr.net and it plays FINE. i even checked filesizes, and each file (the original i had after encoding) and the one konqrr uploaded on his site have the EXACT SAME number of bytes. Size is exactly 432,428,446 bytes, making it very, very unlikely that the files are any different.

here are some things you could try.

1. download and install this codec pack, which includes the latest xvid codec released in feb 2006

2. download the media player i used, media player classic.

3. install these things and then restart your computer, make sure nothing else is running. then try to play the file with media player classic.

also, try playing it on the fastest computer you have in the house.


it should work, it works fine for me, i cant offer any other advice, im still stunned that vlc gave you that bullshit. the file isnt corrupt, i promise. what version of windows media player did you try?? i tried version 9 and it worked fine.

i dont know what else to say, all i can tell you, is that i have had others download it from konqrr's site and report that it works fine for them : )

when you finally get it working, tell me how you liked the credits.
Konqrr, i have just discovered that someone has stolen ALL of your deathtrap videos and posted them on youtube and not giving you any credit AT ALL... i will pm you with further details
he replied to me, the person who stole my videos, and said he wouldnt take them down. the only other defense i can muster is to upload ALL of my videos to my own youtube account, which i did.

Hey nukes,
Once again computers are failing me and I will have to try what you said so that my vid doesn't stop after hsu hao's wrestler's slam against everyone. The quality of the video is fine and so is the music. When I meant grilling over the fire i didn't mean the video was bad. At college our professors could make us feel like crap even though our projects were decent.

There were some parts in your video that seemed kinda like filler. In the "paper, rock, scissors" style of this game there were a lot of scenes showing you beat the characters by using the correct move as a counter attack. That was cool but it was kinda lenghty at times.

Maybe using text on the screen to label the infinites and some detail instead of the move times 5 in row. Also, maybe just putting the highest percent combos and/or coolest looking combos in the video. I'm not an mkda expert but at times it looked like you put all possible combos in if they were over like 26%. I loved the intro song. It fit well with an opening to mortal kombat. Playing the behind the scenes in fast forward was okay for a few seconds. Maybe using stills and animating them as overlay would look cool to. So you would have a series of images on the screen while motion video was on the primary background channel. Ultimately the video could have been a tad shorter. When sub-zero tried to stab Bo 3 times and the puke puddle interrupted it...well that would only need to be shown once. When sub-zero knocked his opponet out of the ice ring you could have clipped the scene shorter and force the audience to accept the fact that once the fighter is out of the ring only a projectile will work.

i did stumble across two glitchs of my own that I thought may have been included. Bo's puke and then fatality which changes the loser's stance and distance and scorpian doing his fatality after the spear is already stuck in the loser becuase of the angle on the rainy stage. Scorpian's fatality does freeze after this but the beginning animation is funny since he tries to throw a spear when it's already connected to his opponet. Maybe you could have put the video in a highest % combos. Like each figher's highest combos together with all characters. Some of the songs seemed on que while others didn't. I really like the music que that begins with li mei's fatality. I suck at playing as moloch so I apologize for the lag in my matches but some of his scenes could have been shortened. Once again these are just tips and I mean no disrespect or anything. I was curious about why mokap looks different when frost fatalitiizes him and why everyone's head is identical after scorpian yangs it off. Midway run out of time? I loved the slo-mo effect with mavado's reverse spring kick. I hope that at least some of this was helpful. It took a long time to make this and I'm proud of you for your hard work and the guys who gave you a hand and helped host it. i see. maybe you could take the video to a computer at your work or something? how fast is your fastest computer in your house? xvid needs at least 500 mhz, maybe more depending on what kind of setup you have, just trying to help.

i see what you mean. i was trying to convey a 50/50 game but sometimes i guess i let it go out of hand, that means where you have a martial arts stance that has a middle and a low attack, and you alternate to keep the opponent guessing, since they have to block high or low. thats actually a big part to the game so i had to include it if you know what i mean.

the intro was a little long. i could have shortened it by 20 seconds. i probobly should have, although the entire intro was less than 2 minutes to be fair.

i wanted to show the impale glitch with sub/bo rai cho because i needed to demonstrate that i was in fact, a glitch and that what would happen if you did it twice, however i could have cut it at the end where i just did some change styling and nothing else. your right i could have cut about 5 seconds there.

the out of the ring glitch is probobly too long. i was so shocked when i saw it though, ive never seen it anywhere before and i wanted to include it all, however i coulda cut like 10 seconds from this, good point.

the music i used, i actually chose all the songs that i wanted and dumped them all into 1 big 16 bit wav file. the music cue you hear for li mei's fatality is actually TOTALLY by coincidence, i didnt intend for that at all, but it worked out great.

your right that i could have shortened the moloch videos. they were over 4 minutes and that was a little long. i wanted to give him the longest part however because he is the only character model in the game that you cant select and play as, so most of this footage was never shown anywhere else before.

i wish i could have added more slow motion combos. i should have, and i didnt. i only used mavado's glitch and that was it... next time i will include many more slow mo combos.

thank you for your compliments and dedication man, i really loved working with you on this project and i look forward to working with you guys again on MKA, this time i wont make some of the mistakes i made with this movie, such as de-interlacing and some encoding taboo's.

I'm glad the feedback was taken well and I'm glad to see that your going to be working on mka. I will try and help you on that if need be but since there are others out there than can dig up hidden and max combos faster than me, I'll let them do the digging. My passion is finding glitches. I'm stunned when I find one, let alone able to demonstrate it and provide proof. I just hope that there is a lot of variety in MKA and that the fatalities don't get boring and redundant. Air combos will be awesome to play with and hopefully some glitches.

As far as the music in your video I'm not sure of any titles. The opening song is beautiful and the one that is playing during drahmin and about 30 seconds of hsu hao are the two I want.

I downloaded the codecs and mpc so tonight i can hopefully watch the video in its complete form. I am currently working on my mkd fat + HK gltich vid in s-vid and using all the angles via the slaughterhouse glitch. If you remember mk4 with the geometry influence on the fatality camera then you get my drift. If you've forgotten I can send you some experimental mk4 cam geo influences. This slaugherhouse glitch, with enough experimentation, finally shows us some of the animation that the camera glitched away from. Like with Jade's stick and flip, Kobra's kick decap, and Kira's knives spin. I have most of the capturing done and I started building the project in studio 9 this morning. I want to keep it under 9 minutes and I'm not sure if I'll use the prison stage song since 9 minutes of fight stage in loop will get old. I'm up for ideas. So far I'm pretty happy with what the slaughter house camera influences have been able to shed light on. And, if they do include hara kiri's in armageddon...well let's just say my work will be cut out for me. I would love to test the glitch with game cube characters shao kahn and goro but I don't want to spend the cash for these two fighters.

Overall your vid rocks and don't let my nit-picking be anything more then a grain of salt. I'm excited for your next video and for anyone else's that's coming along in the future. I still can't get the kung Lao sliding Fatality to work but I did get a weird cyrax one.

When close to foe throw a close bomb when life bar is at danger and do a throw. Walk around to opponet's back and do the fatality or do another bomb while facing their back and then the fatality. I tried this 5 times and some of the time the foe appeared "unbouncable" at times. It's funny looking and so is scorpian's fatality when his dagger is already stuck in the ooponet. We'll I'm making this too long so talk to you later.

im so happy you liked the vid! i thought for a while that you were not very satisfied with it. but now i understand that you just needed to see it in the complete form. let me tell you i learned a lot on this video, and all my future work will be much better because of my experience!
