Mojo6 i'd like for you to review my character kevshi when you have a chance. anyways finished reading all the characters that start with the letter l. so here's my feedback good and bad.

levyatan - liked that your character entered the tournament for a high body count. fighting style is ok but could use more detail. attires are fine. to much use of dashing. victory pose is alright.

limbo - like that his soul became 2 people. fighting style isn't that original but it get's the job done. chaos choke special is nice. both attires are quite good. victory pose is generic.

lonin regon - bio is ok. fighting style is alright. cool victory pose. both attires are good but could use more detail.

lorsid - bio is a bit short but it is good. interesting fighting style. to much use of the whip. neat entrance.

lucci - like that he betrayed onaga. like the use of the elements. could use a few more specials. victory pose is a bit lame. to much use of fire. use the other elements a bit more.

luna - i like the fact she sparred with the last of the earthrealm warriors. interesting fighting style. not digging her primary attire but the alternate attire i like. i enjoyed her victory pose and her ending. i enjoyed her sythe air throw special. love fatality 2. to much use of the sythe. will eclipse have new moves.

not hating any characters just giving feedback good and bad. hope you enjoyed.tongue

Thanks Mojo6! Be as ruthless as you possibly can. But if you need more explanation on anything then let me know!

Thanks!

It's not so much about being ruthless as it is providing objective feedback on concept and execution. Even if I don't personally like a particular concept, that won't affect my analysis of the concept execution. Also it's important to note that I'm not out to hurt anyone's feelings and respect the fact that all of you put time and effort towards a submission. So please, know in advance that I'm not out to personally attack people but rather provide opportunity to improve on a concept for future use.

That being said I'll do the reviews upon request and in the order they're made while following the format used with Tao Fei. Don't worry about whether your character has/hasn't fought as I'm doing this by request.

Reviews will be placed in this thread.

I have already fought and through to the second battle.

If I am to be brutally honest...

I look for "plausibility" in characters and their bio's. Even though everyones created characters are extremely creative, I can't see them fitting into the harsh MK universe.

Some of the winning kombatents shouldn't have passed their first battle. I see continuity errors and "rules" established in the MK universe, broken. I know rules are meant to be broken, but they are rules as great as the rules of gravity. If we keep breaking rules, then there will be nothing to follow or guide us in the right directions.

I am a victim of finding these sort of things... A curse if you will lol.

Best of luck to the rest of you and I guess Malice will see Snake on the battlefield.

I guess I wouldn't mind some objective feedback on Krustacean, Mojo6.

Also, I find it funny when people say they like his alt costume. I've honestly got no idea what Royal MoonKrab combat attire looks like.

Go ahead and add Lorsid to that list as well...I'm one of the last fights and I'll be on vacation the week she fights, so I don't know how much feedback I'll be able to see for her anyways :(
Voting has surely fallen. Not even 30 for today.

Don't forget about the Kenshi news...I'm sure some people are too caught up in that.

Also, I think it would be a good idea to not have any matches next Monday, with that being the 4th of July and all. Most American users will probably be too busy celebrating to remember to vote...then of course Kenshi comes out the next day...

Still, this was only 7th day, hardly "the middle" of the contest. It's not a great sign really. I really don't want to see votes dropping in half in less than a week.

So it looks like given time constraints (it took me 45 mins – 1 hr to review this) I’ll average maybe 1-2 reviews a day. I’ll follow the request list per the order it’s given and attempt to produce them in a timely manner. With that, I give you:
-----------------------------
Character Review 1

SHOULEN

- Overall Presentation (3/5): Designing a new species/race in the MK verse is a slippery slope as it runs the risk of borrowing heavily from established characters in the series. Unfortunately with the Shoulen (and thus the character entered) there are strong parallels with Reptile/Khameleon and the plight of the Saurians without providing sufficient distinction between the two. Technically, while there are some stylistic issues and a few typos, the piece reads well and adheres to it’s established theme throughout. This becomes problematic however as several key aspects underdeveloped in the concept directly impact the execution of the Bio and Gameplay. As a result, Shoulen is portrayed as an adequate entry but could benefit from some more polish.

- Appearance (3/5): Color scheme is distinct as the yellow skin and markings contrast well with the blends of burgundy, light pink, and white. While the white arms are contextually appropriate, the use of a mask (in both costumes) seems out of place. I acknowledge that Shoulen was designed with an in-game engine but ultimately, Shoulen could’ve benefited from more accessories and clothing related to his animalistic/tribal race origin and was hindered by the game engine in which he was designed. This is even more evident in the secondary “armored” costume which struggles to convey the desired appearance. Regardless, an adequate attempt given the game engine limitations.

- Backstory (2.5/5): Despite some fleeting instances of creative prominence, the Shoulen concept revisits familiar revenge themes found in Reptile/Khameleon without asserting itself as different. Kahn’s motivation and reason for interest in the race could’ve provided an opportunity to differentiate the Shoulen from the Saurians, but this aspect was dismissed and underdeveloped. Personally I would’ve rather seen more time spent learning about the Shoulen’s existence after their attempted genocide. A revolting mine-slave class (which the author briefly alludes to) would’ve provided further distinction from Reptile and the Saurians by shedding the mediocrity of “revenge for revenges sake” two-dimensionality right along with Kahn’s bonds of slavery. Instead, most of the description was dedicated to recounting the horrors suffered by the Shoulen at the hands of Shao Kahn, Baraka, and the Tarkatans. This done with minimal explanation, exposition, and attempts at establishing Shoulen’s entrance in the tournament.

- Gameplay (2.5/5): Untapped potential with the use of “moulding” attacks. Though effeciently described and thematically appropriate, Shoulen’s moveset lacks innovation. One move in particular, Ground Spike, actually breaks the thematic logic of the character as it becomes a sort of burrowing underground attack implying that the Shoulen can extend their “moulding” arms for great distances. I'd go as far as saying that the lack of focus in developing the Shoulen's innate "moulding" powers in concept have resulted in a "by the numbers" gameplay execution.

As always, I can provide more input upon request.

Mojo6 Guess ill ask for one of these critiques on Shiku too...but Im patient and with the thought and detail you put into your analysis, will make it worth the wait. I have done alot of tweaking since entering Shiku, but some input can always help. Thanks, whenever. Do you have an entry in the tourney?

I agree. Well some of the voter turnout could be contributed to the Kenshi news, I think it's a mix of lack of interest and those who have been eliminated not caring after they've lost.

What can we do to inspire the community then? More community based things? We already have the KaK RPing thread that's getting some good use and the Official MK roleplay thread where soon we will be able to play as our KaK creations alongside the MK favourites. The feedback movement is slowly happening with Mojo, acidslayer and others handing out advice. I'm also planning on organizing KaK Vol 6 Kommunity Awards presentation where we get together and try and pick out the best costume, drawing, move, fatality, x-ray, etc.

We could bribe the community. Enter everyone that votes from now until June 5th (the catch is that they have to vote everyday) into a draw to win a free code for Kenshi and that might stir up some new movement. We could also somehow get an art prize going so that those competing in the contest who are active (vote most of the time, comment on other's creations, or even say anything) can get their character mocked up by many of the talented illustrators on the forum.

We could be annoying and try having more threads reminding people to vote but I don't know how well that will fly.

Just some suggestions I'm throwing out there or highlighting. Anyone else have any thoughts?

just finished reading all the characters that start with the letter n. so here's my feedback good and bad.

neuros - i liked that your charcter disguised himself before entering the tournament. it was good that he trained under havik. fighting style is ok. decent attires. enjoyed kusarigama hook special. fantastic xray. to much use of nexus.

n'hikin - i liked that he was created from the flesh pits. neat fighting style but could use more detail. mutilated throw special is good. enjoyed primary attire. to much use of screams. fatality was nice.

nirvana - like that she's a godess of earth/nature. fighting style is a bit boring. like attires. enjoyed needle spit special. to much use of the vine. nice match taunt.

nokan - i liked that he lived on his own at a young age. fighting style could use more detail. decent attires. to much use of knife. enjoyed match taunt. it would of been better if he stayed evil.

nyctaro - attires are great. neat fighting style. to much use of whip. enjoyed bat scream special. love fatality 2.

there's my feedback. hope you enjoyed.wink

Perhaps more fighters should be revealed each day. Some of us log in everyday, others don't. Perhaps if the pacing steps up it'll be a lot easier to keep people involved? Just my two cents, could be wrong.

Do you mean have more votes per day or showcase characters that are going to be voted on soon along with the ones that are currently being decided?
