Yeah this is going to be so cool!!! Everyone really has done an awesome job especially Crow! Love your character Spider804, it's going to be an awesome match against my little Limbo. He has an awesome fatality, it would be an honor if Limbo got to see it wink

You can find a link to the bracket in my opening post in the voting topic. Also, the quality of characters is higher here than in previous contests I think. Most people who have participated in the older contests can attest to this; you could look at the field and pick 4-6 characters and the winner would end up being one of those. I myself cannot really do that with this field, possibly because it's larger but I also think the quality is higher.

Hopefully no one is too discouraged by the outcomes; after all, only one character could have ever won this contest. Everyone else was destined to lose at some point.

It is not like the winner is getting a game spot so it is not a big deal. I would rather get the boot first than go all that way and not win. If I did make it that far I would be a bit more discouraged with a loss. Besides, once I saw the amount of contestants were being raised I kinda lost hope of a chance at winning anyway.

Indeed, a God of Gravity versus the most powerful of Shang Tsung's Shadow Priests does seem fitting for the final fight of any round. tongue
Are you referring to Marek's second fatality, by any chance? wink

I'm going to disagree with the above statement(s).

With how long their limbs are and how muscular they are, Shokan would realistically move quite fast, I would think. Especially the females. With how much distance each movement covers, combined with how Sheeva was represented in this game(being quite thin and lanky), it is not difficult for me to imagine one moving quickly. Also, with so many limbs covering so much distance, I think crawling would be a rather fast way for them to get around. Flexibility is not much of an issue because, like humans, every shokan has varying degrees of flexibility either naturally or through training. I think her move batter is just the right amount of possible with a pinch of disbelief extension. And that is a cupcake we can all enjoy.

That is your right to disagree. It still changes not how I see it. It has mostly to do with the shoulder joints of all the arms. They do not allow the arms to give the right amount of stride like a spider. They would move much more like a large lizard if anything. Which is still really fast but not as graceful as ShesGotClaws is trying to portray. I just think her awesome idea was poorly presented because maybe she rushed putting Khaali together.
Its not a big deal though...I am just trying to state if I did vote I saw more flaws in her character than mine is all. And damn it you mentioned cup cakes! lol I have blood sugar issues and can't have em' and I now want one (sad puppy face here).

You know if that is true than that would make you mean and a bully. Hopefully you are being sarcastic otherwise I will stop talking to you. That is putting it nice...I am just stating my opinion. It is not even your character...

Come to think of it...I have a random question for Crow.

@Crow...Is there any viable way to prove everyone's identities so that there is not people having more than 1 contestant?

So when you win a round do you draw a picture of your character finishing off your opponent? Because that would be awesome.

Karundi's fatalities would be fun to draw.

Sure, same as is done with verifying if one account is the same as another. Quite easily done on my end.

I think you should reread the way Harle wrote that, it seems pretty clear to me that it was sarcasm, but yeah just my two cents.

Hmmm... This happens so very often. Here I thought I was being silly and light hearted, and somehow it comes across as malicious... Truth was, I was totally hitting on you.

No, I joke....

Nothing I say is mean spirited in any way, but cold hard text can come across that way I suppose. Also, this is probably the tenth baking metaphor I've used on here in the last few days, I was not directing my moist and delicious wrath upon you personally.

You know another thing that happens extremely often? I am referred to as a she in real life and on the internet on a regular basis, when in fact, I am male. Granted, I have exceptionally pretty hair, but still.... My face is hairy.............. But your mistake is perfectly justifiable considering my female avatar, female character, and screen named derived from the word "Harlet", so I'll forgive it.

And I defended someone else's character because your critique was straight up nitpicky, it bothered me that someone could be judging these characters on something that specific(it also pisses me off when someone tries to use bio length as a negative... ). If someone were to say Annette would have a difficult time using both a whip and a rapier, I'd roll my eyes and say "tough titties", she's till gonna do it. I also defended Adsler when someone brought up a comparison to Voldo as a negative, I'm just going to defend a character that I enjoy, simple as that.

And while I am not entirely sure what you were insinuating with that "identity check" comment, I am not the creator of that character, and I'm kind of offended now. You've come off as mean while acting as though I was bullying you.... As a matter of fact, I'm so mad I could spit.

Again, I joke, you should try to be a little more easy going... As they say, "point your heels to Jesus and think of handbags."

My promised detail feedback will now begin for eliminated characters. My opinions are my own and do not express the opinions of Mortal Kombat Online (pointless disclaimer thing). I will not be scathing, simply honest and critical. I will always point out things you did well however, as well as put forth my thoughts on how to help you improve for the next contest.

First up will be the four that were eliminated in the preliminary round. I'll continue on from there.

Feedback:

Bachi Li

Story: There are several issues to address here. The backstory with Bachi Li and his father is merely touched upon and doesn't enthrall me. There's simply not enough depth here; it should be elaborated upon. Why did he kill him? What is the significance of the murder and how is it tied with the rest of his biography? The Elder Gods randomly calling up this person (after he wandered around as a soul aimlessly for a while) doesn't make a ton of sense to me. You must connect one point to another. The transition from one event to another in a story should be seamless in that it makes sense to the reader.

Why Orderrealm? There should be a connection to the realm itself, but I can see none. What exactly is the purpose of being a color guardian, and why are there only six? It leaves me thinking you are portraying these color gods as protectors of their realm, but this creates a plothole since Raiden is the God of Thunder and protector of Earthrealm. The number six alludes to the six realms, but with nothing mentioned about the point of these color gods or any reference to the other color gods I'm at a loss. How Bachi Li goes from color god in Orderrealm to Earthrealm hero is rather baffling and feels forced for the sake of making him an important character.

The ending is quite disappointing because I feel Quan Chi is crammed in for no apparent reason. Quan Chi tricking people is getting rather old and the current game storyline already places far too much focus on his dealings. To add one more is overkill; this is virtually Scorpion's story slightly altered. You lose me around the "Wraith" part because you offer no explanation of this "beast". I can't really tell what is going on without more backstory.

Gameplay:

Some ideas you have are nice, particularly summoning the purple weapons. I'm not sure I understand how some of the moves work (chest kick that lands you on your face) and YRR and GTS seem like they're too long to be special moves. The X-Ray is probably the highlight of your moveset as I can actually visualize it. A small note on your fighting style; you describe Aikido as a martial art designed to bruise but not injure them, but then go on to say Bachi has refined it to be more bloody? It makes sense to me a god would not want to injure his opponents if they are benevolent, but one phrase seems to contradict the other.

The fatalities are honestly not very well done. The first deals with more body slicing, which I suppose is passable as I really don't weight fatalities very much in my judging. But the part where he randomly stabs them in the eye is bothering, since it's unnecessary movement. The second fatality again makes mention of this "beast" that you failed to address in the biography. Feels like Mortal Kombat 3 nonsense fatality, respectfully. I don't care for bizarre finishers with no basis in the character they are representing.

Appearance:

Appearance wise he was always going to be compared to Rain due to the color purple. His main costume is interesting enough, and though some people frown on "anime" based hair colorings I do not. However, his alt doesn't sound like it would be something I would enjoy as it would be far too close to being a ninja, which we have plenty of and already one of that particular color. I'm again confused by your "beast", as this time it's failed to be mentioned at all, and I would think it would have made a more sensible alternate than a ninja knockoff. Of course, I still would need the beast to be referenced in the biography if you were to do this. I can't really figure out the meaning of mentioning Armageddon, SC3 and SC4 in this section... but anyway.

3 major suggestions:

-Read over your biography and ending and ask yourself if you've covered all the details. When presenting a created character, it is important to leave your readers with as few questions as possible.

-Work on creating your own combat style rather that adopting from a style that seems to be unfitting to the character. Be sure your specials are to the point and don't seem like combos.

-Avoid the ninja stereotype.

My question to Crow was just random and not insinuating anything to you. Just to get that out of the way.
I really don't see myself as being nit picky at all. I am just pointing out a potential technical flaw. After all I did praise Khaali and I do like the character. As a matter of fact I was even honorable not to vote for myself against her. I have no Idea why you are being defensive for my statement of opinion.
Now if I wanted to be offensive I would have been...and yes I did mistake you for a girl sorry...the avatar and sig kinda reflect femininity. My bad there...and I am usually easy going and cool. Well, unless you push buttons.
Back to Khaali though...I never mentioned the length of the bio or even much else for that matter. I pointed out the movement thing because it could potentially effect every move the character would make in an actual game. Than again to some extent you have a valid point that some things can be a bit exaggerated...it is Mortal Kombat. Like I said before...I think my opinion on characters may be too technical. To be honest,I could even rip apart my own character in such a form. Like the fact of the first fatality I described to look similar to the link posted with the sythe. Fact is if you look at the image of my character with the sythe...the handle is different than the one Louie uses in that video. This would mean that the motion of the slice is not accurate because the handle on Louie's sythe has grips and the one Luna holds has none.

Levyatan:

Story:

As interesting as new races typically are, there's a lack of depth here. Seems to be a little too mysterious. The race isn't given a name, just that it resides somewhere in Outworld. When introducing a new race to the mix, it's generally important to connect them to the in game world in some way. For example, Baraka is the leader of a savage race that work as grunts for Shao Kahn. Nitara was a vampire who had her home world absorbed into Outworld by Shao Kahn and sough to restore it, manipulating people along the way. The Shokan and Centaur are connected to one another and have a rivalry over who should be the elite guard of Outworld. It helps to establish a starting point for a character if you connect them to others in the game, or at least to a realm's history.

Beyond that, the story is a bit short and lacking detail. The idea of a disrespected hero from another race is rather interesting as a concept but it needs to be fleshed out much more to be truly dangerous in this competition. The ending is similarly lacking since there's a lot of formalities thrown around. Whenever there are NPCs in an ending, it's important we know who they are and more about them; such is the case of your character's kingdom.

Gameplay:

Mendax is fairly interesting and I like the idea of keeping the opponent guessing which is the real Levyatan. Infligo is similarly interesting in that it works like a reverse Spear, pulling himself towards the opponent rather than pulling the opponent towards him. None of your specials stand out as bad, but I feel the introduction of a couple of more original moves would have helped. The typical energy ball doesn't do very much for me, especially when the character's powers aren't really described well. While the X-Ray is fairly good (you should note that the kicks crack individual ribs, as that could be a pleasing sequence) I think the neck break at the end is too overkill.

The fatalities are subpar, in my opinion. The first seems elaborate enough, but I can't understand the point of the intestine wrapping. I can't figure out how that assists in blowing the limbs off of someone. The second fatality is fairly weak and deals with random teleportation powers, another of my various peeves.

Appearance:

Honestly, the first thing I thought of was this. Probably due to the new race, black and yellow parts of his appearance. There are elements of it I like, such as the elongated mask, but overall I'm not sure it's befitting. With your use of "king" in the bio and this being his most powerful warrior, I'm not sure he looks the part. Though I can't be sure, since the kingdom itself isn't described very well, I would have recommended something a little different than ninja pieces and parts.

3 Major Suggestions:

-Work your character into the MK mythology; don't make him a complete outsider without a single connection to anyone or anything in the game world.

-Elaborate on the details. Tell us more about his kingdom and who he is.

-Avoid recycling special powers such as energy balls and teleports

I understand the point you made but I was aching to be a smart a$$ to say that you can actually tell the two apart by looking for tells between them. An example, wise men would more than likely pause before speaking and the fools would more than likely jump to conclusions.
All I was trying to do is ask if he was being sarcastic or not because I could not tell. I was not trying to start anything. He even admit to being defensive when I was not even doing anything wrong lol. I did nothing wrong but if he wants to be mad and pissy at me that's cool.

I said "I think... Blah blah blah" simply to add to the conversation from a different perspective. 'Tis all. But I'd prefer not to be referred to as "pissy" if it's all the same to you.
