Would fans be fine with guest characters if ALL their favorites came back?

That's always one of the primary issues fans have with guests, that developers waste resources and roster spots on guests that could be used for MK characters.
Somehow, I get the feeling that even if all the most requested characters came back, fans would now wonder why a guest character's spot couldn't be given to a previously unrequested character, instead, or even another new one. But maybe I'm wrong.

Honestly I'm indifferent about guest spots. Honestly if prefer new characters over guests.

I don't feel like guest characters take away from anyone being on the roster. I imagine from a story stand point, the roster would be pretty much set before they think about adding in a guest. IMO~

This is kind of like asking if you would be fine with having tofu for Christmas dinner if everyone else ate turkey.
Still, the answer is no. I'm tired of MK being used to advertise and promote other games' characters (and let's face it, that's what it is).
I'd rather see NRS' time and resources spent on renovating and improving the series' forgotten faces instead.

I'm a vegetarian, so I'd be fine with eating tofu. Besides, even when I used to eat meat, I didn't find turkey all that delicious.
Plus, it's not like you'd be forced to play as the guests, so your analogy doesn't work. Admittedly though, you'd probably have to fight them in single-player, but that too could be fixed with an option to turn guests off, for single-player. As for online, just find opponents who don't play as guests.

I think guest characters cheapen the experience and ruin the immersion that a game is supposed to have.

I don't know about you guys, but guest characters is not the worst idea in the world. Freddy and Kratos were perfect.

I can kind of see that point, but my immersion is broken even before a guest shows up. People surviving X-rays, Baraka and Mileena being able to speak properly without lips, everyone speaking English despite being from different realms, and death holding no real consequnce already take me out of the game.
Despite all that, I still enjoy the game for what it is. Same for guests, since their not hurting anyone by being a non-canon playable character. Just a fun little addition for fans of that character.

Well, not to me. I can immerse myself in the game just fine. A guest character's presence is hardly unavoidable when you're not fighting them, or fighting in their stage if they've got one. But even when playing as or against a guest, or in their stage, I'm rarely that distracted.
Then again, I've never been that easily distracted. I've often been indifferent to things that apparently took people out of a game, or movie, be it humor, sex appeal, guest characters, etc.
No, I still would want them to focus those resources on improving or adding new stuff for the game, so many old characters to develop and even more new faces are welcome, since they have done a fantastic job with the new MKX characters, imo.
These lasts MK games are very story focused for fighting game's standards, having characters that will be completely absent form the main storyline and will ad nothing to the MK lore seems like a huge waste.

I think having mostly only Mortal Kombat characters is the right way to go this time around. I am going to say no for guest characters even though I would of loved to see Ash in the game but I respect their decision thus far.

Yup because Baraka, Reptile, Sheeva, and Ermac were so important in MK9.

Sure, all characters should have equal story representation or they don't matter at all, right?

That's nice, you create a topic asking people's opinion, and you down right insult the ones whose opinion you don't agree with. Why create a thread in the first place if you have a hard time dealing with the answers?

If I had all my favorites and they played the way I envisioned them to be then it would still depend on the suitability of the guests; I would accept Predators and Jason for example but Killer Instinct guests would probably not make me happy as everyone wants the completely predictable choices from the franchise.
Guest characters ALWAYS steal a canon character spot, here is why:
A character needs a lots of resources to be created, he needs to have his moveset designed, tested and balance, his model done, his textures, his animations, the voice and sound FX, etc...
Each character you create takes a lot of resources and time from the team, so if the team had those resources and time available I will ALWAYS prefer them to invest them on canon characters, even if my favorites are all in, because it makes the game story richer than a character that belongs to a different franchise and won't help moving the story forward or won't add anything to the game.
If there are resources for a guest, it means there were enough resources to make an extra canon character instead, so I'm all against guest characters as a fan.

Yeah but now we're just essentially trading punching bags. Somebody has to be the fall guy. So if it's not those guys, it'll just be some other people. And if the argument is guest characters add nothing to the lore, then what about the punching bags? What's their excuse?
As for the whole guest characters take up canon character spaces point, it's not like they decide the roster on the fly. That shit was planned before development on the game started. They knew who they wanted way in advance. Sure, they require dev time as any other character does, but the payoff is much better.
