Yes but some characters are crossing over into next gen so what about them, they all of a sudden change. I think the first couple of sequels after MKA are gunna be very strange. It wont feel like MK

I think they just said it will be the last game for some because they want us to buy the game.

I think the next game will be really close to this one. I doubt this is the last game for anyone. I think we will see all of them return for future games (not in each game but they will be back)

My only real worry is will the MK team be able to make new characters that are memorable at least to the point where we won't be playing MK8 and completely wishing that we had some of the old favorites at our disposal, or worse, we only want to play as the old characters that make the next gen game because the new characters are less than stellar.

I only say this because MK1 and MK2 had the classic characters, the characters that most people wanted to see again and again. But with MK3, we found less memorable characters (it's the first MK game to have any characters that didn't appear in multiple games until Armageddon: Sheeva, Stryker, Motaro...And no, Trilogy/Ultimate MK3 don't count). MK4 got even worse in this regard (Kai, Reiko, Jarek, Fujin and Shinnok are all one gamers). MK5's cast of characters was more well received, but not many carried over to MK6 (no Mavado, Nitara, Frost, Drahmin, Hsu Hao, Blaze or Mokap) Only 3 characters, Li Mei, Kenshi and Bo Rai Cho made the jump, and I wouldn't consider any of them to be huge fan favorites.

My point here is that it seems as though the MK team, ever since MK2 or MK3, has had a bit of a hard time making new characters stick in the minds of MK fans. It seems like a very small few get carried over, with a majority of the cast being from MK1 and MK2.

MK4: 10 of 17
MK5: 11 of 23 (that's almost half, three games after MK2!)
MK6: 11 of 26 (including Goro & Shao Khan)

Either way, I just can't imagine a huge ground swell of support for seeing Dairou or Hsu Hao in MK8. Do you guys think that the MK team will be able to scrap 90+ percent of the roster, keeping only 1, 2 or 3 characters from the old games and making basically an entire roster of characters, many of whom you'll want to see over and over again? Say the game has 24 fighters, can the MK team really make 21 new, good, fun to use characters, how about 2 or 3 that wow us the way that Scorpion and Sub Zero did back in the day?

As far as the tournament idea goes, apparently it's been confirmed (according to one poster) that there will be a new tournament. I definitely hope that we see a return to the dark, foreboding Shaolin asian style that the first two games had. No city stuff like in MK3. I liked alot of the backgrounds in MK5 and MK6, but it would be kinda cool if they brought back the whole "lost island" idea from way back when, you know, the "Enter the Dragon" look.

See!? There I go again, already looking to the past for inspiration. Here's hoping that the MK team can make something new and fresh that the old fans will like, that new fans will embrace, and that we can all look at and play, new characters, backgrounds, stories and all, and say "oh yeah, this is definitely Mortal Kombat."

well itll be a good time for a change cuz mk has kept the same storyline ever since the 1st mk.and buddy mksm was a remake of right after the 1st tournament strangely,mkd had shang tsung inviting people into the tournament to bad the player didnt get to go in the tuornament,and mkda was a tournament. i aint goin any farther back

As long as Shang Tsung is alive, there will be more tournaments, but then again the story could change.

was MKDA a tournament? doesn't it say that in Li Mei's ending?

i think most of the popular characters from mk1 and 2 will stay liu kang jonny cage kung lao etc. i think many of the villians will die including onaga and shao kahn so new evil forces can enter maybe lucifer. i can see kenshi and nightwolf staying and all the ninjas. i see bo rai cho dying as well as li mei, sindel, tanya, kintaro, maybe frost, shujinko, sector, shinnok for a few, srtyker, maybe noob will die and change back into mk1 sub. scorpion will assend into the heavens as the champion of the elder gods to be called apon again by raiden and fujin the new elder gods liu kang will return to a human state and marry kitana and kung lao will be the new champion of mortal kombat until the child of liu kang and kitanais able to fight. i would like to see shujinnko live and take a support role as the wise masterlike bo rai cho but i think he is going to die. taven i think is going to rule outworld and bring lasting freedom to outworld. i don't know about the other people

In all honestly Mortal Kombat has not felt the same to me since it made the step to 3D. The digital characters is what gave it its appeal.

Yes, it's still Mortal Kombat but I guess I miss the old days.
