Will DLC characters like Goro be part of the story?
Neither of MK9 and Injustice's DLC characters were part of the story modes. Will the same be true of Goro and other DLC characters, and more importantly, should it be so?
Lobo's lack of involvement in Injustice's story mode was both disappointing and predictable. Unlike him and the other DLCs in the previous games, Goro should be involved in the story. That he was announced so soon gives me hopes that this is the case, as he won't be added later after MKX's release. I'm interested in the role he'd play, how he'd fit in the rise and fall of Kotal Kahn, though I probably shouldn't expect Goro to be anything more than someone's lackey again, if he's canonically involved.
Also, if any other DLC characters end up being enforcer types, I think buying them should affect the story mode a bit by replacing other enforcer-types with them, perhaps at random. Save for a few fights, which enforcers you fought in MK9 didn't matter much, storywise. Mileena in Stryker's chapter could have been switched with Noob, Baraka, Sheeva, Skarlet, Rain and a cyborg other than CSZ. Some of the pre-fight scenes would have to change, but it'd be nothing major, and it'd even add some replay value.

I have the sense that Goro will be involved in the story mode.
It seems like NRS is allowing a "boss-tier" character from the story mode be available to the playable roster through pre-ordering.

I hope so. I remember when I was little Goro was one of my favorite characters, so id like to see him get a chance at becoming a bad ass once again.

When Goro was announced, I was the only one who said that this DLC is probably a "DLC Character Chapter" and NOT a playable roster character.

That is not a bad speculation. I hope that ends up being true.

It's highly doubtful. If they do it with him, they should do it with the other MK only DLC characters.
Goro shouldn't have any inclination in the story as he is a pre-order/dlc.

Goro is released at launch, so he is on-disc. His model, animations, etc, are all on-disc. They can easily use him in the single-player, just like they would any of the other characters included at launch.
The other DLC characters are a lot less likely, but it's not impossible.

I think Goro was always "in" the game, the DLC just makes him playable.
So I expect him to appear in Story Mode as an NPC/opponent...but I don't think he'll get his own downloadable chapter.

Holy shit I hope thats not the case that would be a horribly lame gimmick. I wanna bash people online with all of Goro's variations, not just play a big awkward MK9 type Goro through an added part of a most likely corny as fuck story mode.
And yeah I expect Goro to be in the story mode because he was still around at the end of MK9. He doesn't have to have a major part, but if they leave him out completely that would be pretty damn lame. And yeah him being in the main story some people will complain he shouldn't have been DLC, but since he is just a dlc you get with a pre order he is essentially free so it doesn't matter.

Skarlet was on disc and everything, so why wasn't she playable in story-mode, in MK9? Yet Goro is possible because he is boss character or am I missing something here?

No one knows anything more about Goro than what was revealed in one picture back in September.
All we got is a tinted picture of him and with the words "Preorder to play as Goro" slapped on. THAT'S IT.
Not even a trailer out of all things.
*edit* For all we know, they could pull a Capcom. Marvel vs Capcom 3, you get the Special Edition (an extra $10) and you get codes for character's Jill Valentine and Shuma Goroth. You would assume you play as them on day one, right? Nope. They got released a month later. And to top it off, modders found Jill Valentine already on disc and fully playable, just missing audio.
Mortal Kombat (2011), had Skarlet already on disc confirmed by modders. She was missing her own movesets. And she got released two months later.
- Is Goro already on disc? I don't doubt it one bit.
- Is he completely on disc, such as movesets and audio? We don't know.
- Is he available on launch? No one knows yet and that alone is ridiculous because that should had been known on day one of his revealing.

I'm only assuming. I said they could use him, not necessarily that they will. I don't see why not, though, unless they don't care for giving him a new story.

I'd be surprised if NRS is yanking our chains; they aren't Capcom. Boon and his team are nice people. They would have clarified things by now if people had the wrong impression. Goro will be a fully playable character with three variations and will be available on launch. I'd bet money on that.
