Why the hate for Drahmin?

Drahmin has long been an unpopular character, and he seems to be at the very top of Ed Boon's shit list. Just what the hell was so bad about him, anyway?

Was it all because he was difficult to play as, and had no branch combos? I remember those being among the primary reasons for his unpopularity back then, but nowadays, I'm a little less certain. My theory is that most people hate him these days, because Ed Boon hates him.

Another thing I know plenty of people didn't like about him was his ball-o'flies, and that he should lose it if he returned. Why do so many fans just have to hate anything that's remotely original?

The character's just got a lot of potential, and his design's awesome as hell. The mask was supposed to help him control his rage, and that could factor in his variants, one with the mask on and another with it off, if he returned. His cannibal tendencies could open the door for gruesome fatalities (his MK:DA fatality was disappointing).

But, surprise surprise, Ed Boon just had to hate him, as did a lot of fans, and that left him at the top of the deconfirmed. What's Ed Boon's issue with Drahmin, anyway?

People feel they need to dislike him because Boon does, it's the bandwagon effect. His design and backstory are way more interesting than some of the popular characters.

The choice for his main outfit (Meat-in-a-stone-speedo) was really unfortunate. I reckon if they took his alt with the sick-ass mummy wraps and stuck the mask on that, his reception would've been considerably warmer.

And apparently, some people didn't like the flies for whatever reason.

But yeah, Drahmin's great. With a few tweaks to his design, I think he would've made for a great subboss before Shinnok. Moloch ended up getting a surprise cameo, though, so there might be some hope for him yet.

I actually liked his look. His body outfit was a little out there, but his mask and story were cool. He was actually really different, which is actually a good thing.

Watch Quan Chi hold his head in another pose.

Gameplay has always been top priority for Boon. And since Drahmin debuted with some pretty lackluster styles and moves, I don't think it mattered to him how cool the rest of him was. And I think the same went for the fans. Which is a shame, because Drahmin's awesome and has bags of potential for some epic and gruesome gameplay.

I loved his design and story. He always struck me as one of the more frightening looking characters. grin

If Drahmin and Moloch had been a combined sub-boss a la Noob-Smoke they'd have been received better. They're two halves of a really good idea that just didn't pack enough punch on their own. I like them okay, but they didn't live up to their potential. I'd be glad to see Drahmin come back one day.

Drahmin is one of the few characters introduced in the MKDA-MKA era that I actually liked. The only thing I didn't like about him was his underwear/diaper thing, other than that I thought he was cool. His gameplay wasn't the best either, but that can be easily changed.

Making Drahmin and Moloch a Ferra/Torr like duo could work, so long as they don't badly neuter one of them. Noob in MKD had only one special move of his own. I can imagine an x-ray where Drahmin and Moloch simultaneously crush their opponent's skull with their iron club and chainball, respectively.

I'd really like to see these two's apparent friendship explored. How did they meet, and why are they so close to one another?

Satisfactory backstory, but the let down was his diaper design. Combine the 'face of Kun-Lo' demon mask with the oni body wraps and Drahmin would of been more appealing.

I cant remember who said it on here, but I would have LOVED to see an intro where the owl drops Moloch's Orb onto the arena, and he emerges from the ground.

As for Drahmin...he will always be one of my favorites. I remember opening a MK:DA strategy guide, and was just instantly hooked after I saw his origins. I know it will most likely never happen, but hopefully we can get some closure of his whereabouts.

I Loved Drahmin's bio and appearance, but his gameplay was lackluster. But isn't that the story for nearly ALL the MK5-A characters? LoL. Drahmin can definitely be awesome with an MKX makeover.

An idea I've had for the longest time is that his club-hand could be upgraded to having a projectile spiked mace, that stays attached by a chain. So he can launch it full screen and retract it, or extend it just alil and use it in spinning/mid range/anti-air attacks.

Maybe this^ could even be what his variations are based off of. Different "attachments" to his club-hand

Reminds me of the first boss from Majoras mask, and I fucking hated that boss. So therefore, fuck Drahmin.

All jokes aside, just don't like him. Gave one good look at his nasty ass and said nope.

If Drahmin was able to attach a variety of weapons to his right arm, and use a selection of instruments like a claw or a bladed replacement (not just an iron club) it would of made him more absorbing.

I think Ed hates him because he was a pain in the ass to program. His club kept switching to the other arm after certain special moves. I'm assuming that might have something to do with it?

Yeah I don't see anyone going around saying "Fuck Drahmin" so I don't know where this hate is you speak of. At least not around here anyway.

His primary design was pretty shitty though. Flesh bag with a speedo? No thanks. His alt was great but it took away the best part of his design, the mask.

I actually liked Drahmin's moveset if only for the Shoryuken.

If they revamped his look and tweaked his moves and added some I think it would be good. And I'm sure he'd be cool especially breaking away from the 3d games play style

That is a great idea....or maybe change his mask for different powers....again he has a lot more potential then people think.

At first i didnt care for him, but he grew on me. I think it would be kool to se him back. That mask, his background story, and his gameplay all grew on me a bit. Hell he could come back and have human and demon forms posibly with the new timeline.

All in all Drahmin prob a top 20 for me so yeah id like to see a return.

I agree. Not to say that he can't he can't be improved visually or in terms of gameplay but I just don't care about Drahmin. Conceptually he's interesting but how he ended up in DA was completely underwhelming and borderline unpalatable for me. However I understand he has fans and NRS so far has shown they can fix designs they misfired on in previous titles so it's whatever for me.

I liked the fact that Drahmin didn't have long combos. Made him feel like more of a brutal, heavy hitter -- which he was. That made him one of my top 3 favorites to play.
