I keep seeing this as a common theme popping up. Like we will get to see a shadow kitana or something of that nature. Or maybe this time Noob Saibot will be Kuai Liang.
Ummm, do people not remember the part where Quan already used them in battle against Raiden and they fought as THEMSELVES? They are just undead versions of themselves.
I choose to believe this is because they were mostly "good" in life. Noob Saibot is different because Bi-Han was "mostly" evil. I would say Scorpion is pretty much even the same in death as in life except with hellish abilities.
Anyway, the point is why do some people seem to believe there will be wraithlike heroes when we have already seen them in action and clearly they are not?

I don't think they would have us see them under quan chi's control and expect us not to believe he'd not use them.

I haven't even heard anyone talking about Quan turning the undead warriors into wraiths.

The actual term that was used was "Revenant", not wraith. It was stated in the Quan Chi reveal that he has turned the fallen earth realm warriors into his army of revenants.

I have seen on a few different sites people saying maybe some of our new characters will just be "wraith" versions of the old characters. I just don't get that though.
I feel that
1. That would piss people off
2. That's dumb because Quan used them already and they were exactly as they were in life.
Then there's the whole Bi-Han/Kuai Liang debacle which furthers this discussion. Raiden told Bi-Han that he had evil in his soul. From WHAT WE KNOW none of the other heroes had this. So, they have no reason to become wraiths of their former selves.

Maybe not all of them are colored monotone as depicted near the MK9 ending. If any of them are going to be returning, they've got to be differentiated with some dark coloration or a twisted version of their primary costume before they were slain by Sindel/Shao Kahn/Raiden to establish their uniqueness within Quan Chi's "army of revenants"
Maybe Quan Chi doesn't completely control people's spirits. Maybe after they've died, their souls felt betrayed by Raiden or the Elder Gods for leaving them to get killed so Quan Chi took advantage of that by controlling them partially and part time gently nudging them to reenact their misguided "revenge" on Raiden and his new host of allies. But of course there's a problem with that theory: most of the allies had no reason to be in the Netherrealm for they weren't REALLY evil. From my perspective when I saw Quan Chi use the new Trance on Kano, Kano seemed to be swaying his arms away like he was attempting to resist, but his body was moving toward Quan Chi anyhow.

MK9, and Quan Chi's MKX reveal video, said he was going to turn them into/has turned them into Revenants.
A Revenant is an undead person, someone who's been resurrected/reincarnated with demon powers.
A Wraith is a KIND of Revenant. A Spectre is a KIND of Revenant. That's why Noob Saibot and Scorpion have the powers they have, they're specific sub-species OF Revenant.
The MK9 characters will presumably be different and not have the same powers as Scorp or Noob. Maybe they'll still be bland zombies like we saw their souls appear as in MK9 (though that was at a point where Quan Chi had just recieved their souls and hadn't yet had the time to transform them into something like Scorpion or Noob), maybe they'll each be UNIQUE.
We don't know.
But we do know they'll be Revenants.
