Shinnok will have a huge roll in this game. Quan-Chi will have a large role in this game. But who will take the throne this time as the final, Arcade-Ladder boss.
Will Shao Kahn return from the death, as most characters do?
Or will Shinnok be both playable and boss, akin to MK4, the game's supposed basis?
Perhaps Shinnok will be ONLY the boss...

Or maybe, just maybe, Shinnok will appear playable, and the huge, demonic form seen in Mythologies will appear as the final boss. (Yes, I speak of a huge demon seen in a sub-par adventure game that nobody wanted.)

I'd want Shinnok playable regardless. That said I'd want a new boss for MKX. Don't worry, Shinnok would still have a huge role in the story but I'm ready for a fresh new baddie. Maybe a female boss. Come on get with the times MK.

Most would assume that it will be Shinnok as the main boss and Quan Chi as a possible sub-boss.

I also would like to hope that Shinnok has his demonic form shown as the final version to fight against.

Tony Danza. (Had to)

Or something completely different that no one expected.

The common idea seems to be Shinnok

But I bet you it won't be him

Hopefully Shinnok. He needs his time in the sun as a boss. And I must respectfully disagree with the idea of him turning into a giant monster.

Shinnok needs to be threatening by HIMSELF. Not by turning into another hulking brute boss.

Actually, if they're really going through with the colliding timelines and CROSS-GENERATION OF KOMBATANTS thing, it'd make a lot of sense for there to be another (true?) final boss aside from Shinnok.

You really want MK to be like Injustice, don't you?

Injustice already had the colliding timelines and the main hero becoming evil. Mortal Kombat does not need to follow that. It needs to be original.

The way it seems, this game might be a crossover between the two universes that exist up until now. If that does happen, I wouldn't mind seeing Raiden as a final boss. I don't think that will happen though, and I don't think it still be Shinnok either. They might come up with someone new.

I just want the continuity to get un-fucked, mang. I think we all just want to move forward with our lives and pretend that Cyber-Zero never happened.

Also, it doesn't matter what Injustice did. Comics have been juggling with alternate realities since day one, that's nothing new. The thing is that MK has not done it yet. Could be cool, potentially.

That aside, my wishful thinking really doesn't matter at this point. Look at these two tweets side-by-side and tell me that it's not happening.

RT @timbo869 @noobde will the story in mortal kombat X Kontinue from mk9 or be a new original story EB: Sort of BOTH.. hard 2 explain.

— Ed Boon (@noobde) June 3, 2014

RT @topherous86 @noobde so the 'X' has multiple meanings, right? #MKX EB: Yea. X can be used in a number of ways. That worked out nicely.

I agree with @T-Rex. The main objective in terms of the story and boss choice has to be either sorting out the timeline to set up the new era of MK properly, or rebooting the reboot. I think we'd all prefer the former. If it turns out to be a prequel, I guess I'm happy with just getting the game but it puts off the story issue.

I absolutely think they'll do a crossover with the other timeline. It makes sense in that it allows us to pretend that Armageddon was something carefully planned as a storyline and not just a hasty device for a greatest-hits compilation because Midway was closing up.

As regards the bosses, I think Dark Raiden would be cool. Possibly Dark Raiden for the evil guys, Shinnok for the good? Or it could be chosen randomly, or be done in a kind of Deadly Alliance, one after the other style? Alternatively, this could just be about Dark Raiden and Shinnok could be put off til MK11, despite his foreshadowing in MK9.

Of course, we could still see Shao Kahn if we do the crossover. He won Armageddon after all.

As for the sub-boss, I'd love something new. Emphasis on 'thing' cos I love monster sub-bosses. And a challenging one, not like the Kintaro/Goro in MK9, where they suck in both story and arcade.

This.

Consider the following:

So far, it seems that the story arcs in MK roughly encompass a trilogy of games.

The Outworld Invasion arc - MK1, MK2, MK3

The Kamidogu/Shinnok's Amulet arc - MK4, MKDA, MKD

The Armageddon arc - MKA, MK9, ???

MKX is really looking to be the game to cap off the ongoing story arc (because it's definitely still ongoing; the last game pretty much ended on a cliffhanger) and bring things back to the status quo,

With NRS somewhat following the origin story for MK9, Shao Khan was the main boss and Shang Tsung was one of the sub-bosses so I think the team will continue that with MKX by replacing those 2 with Shinnok and Quan Chi respectively. It makes the most sense to me at this point.

For me, a boss needs to be larger than life and physically imposing in order to be believable.

For this reason, Shinnok in MK4 never did it for me. He was like this old dude of average size with a bag of popcorn on his head.

So if Shinnok is the final boss, he needs to go demon-form on all of us and be scary as fuk. Otherwise, just give the ball back to Shao Khan and let him play.

I think Raiden should be the boss for the bad guys and Shinnok should be the boss for the good guys.
