Which game had the better X-Rays? MK9, or MKX?

To me, MK9, hands down. While realism has never been MK's forte, many of MK9's X-Rays were plausibly survivable, which made them all the more cringe-worthy.

The MKX X-rays were way too over-the-top. Not to say that didn't have some appeal, but that made most of them a lot less cringe-worthy. Plus too many of them involved the skull, the neck and the spine getting broken.

Jacqui's X-Rays one of the few that came close to MK9's, which is one of the reasons it's one of my favorites.

I agree, MK9. The ones in MKX were just a bit too over the top, however there are certain ones that I love (Erron Black, Shinnok, Raiden, Kano) and they certainly look better, but the simplicity in MK9 made them overall a lot better imo. Like you said there's too many in this game where it's tough to suspend your disbelief. There's also too many characters in this game who have 3 X-Ray hits and it makes them feel less unique, where as in MK9 there were very few who had 3, (Reptile, Sindel, Stryker and Kano) and it made those feel special.

Mk9 for reasons stated above and because too many of MKxs deal with the head and neck.

I like MK:X's because they incorporate more of the characters personality into it

Like scorpion with his spears, Quan Chi with his teleport, Sonya with her neck tie thing, Kitana with her fans etc

Too many in MK9 were just punch and kicks that were generic

Pretty much this. Also, the utilization of Mileena's teeth was fantastic.

I just wish more of them were ultra elaborate like Raiden's or Kung Lao's.

Overall I feel like mk9's was more memorable. I dunno it may be because it was the first one that did it.

I can understand this. I was always buged with the fact that Raiden's had nothing to do with lightning. Very plain compared to his mkx one.

Ok...some of the x-rays are way better in mkx some better in 9.

We don't have anything like that in this one. I was hoping they upped the bar and had people shit themselves during one of the x-rays. Lulz

This, so much. I also prefer the over the top x-rays. MK has always been over the top.

Like someone said, the X-Rain in X are more than brutal combos. They incorporate more of the character's abilities. That's also my problem with Deception's fatalities. A lot of them are very generic. If your XRay or fatality can be given to someone else without anyone noticing, then it's just not that good.

Maybe they're more over the top, but they beautiful to watch. Sub-Zero crushing the stomach and freezing the trail of blood to create a stabbing weapon? Cassie crushing the balls? Goro wrecking the spine?

What's with those saying MK9's X-Rays didn't incorporate the characters' individuality into them?

I can think of plenty that did: Stryker, Sindel, Jade, Kabal, Sub-Zero, Noob, all the bosses, Sonya (her bicycle kick followed by her leg grab), Johnny (constant low blows), Baraka, and I could go on.

In what way were those generic? It's not like Stryker didn't use any of his weapons, for example.

Definitely MK9. I think they took a turn for the generic in MKX.

I haven't really given it much thought, but seeing as i pretty much exclusively play Sub-Zero, i would have to pick his MKX X-Ray, i like it better.

MK9 without a doubt. The Xrays in MKX is displayed in 30 FPS. MK9 didn't slow down the gameplay during matches.

Mk9 is better.

MKX feels like a poorly edited film that misses the punchline.
Not a big fan of the X-Rays in general (Ik, unpopular opinion)

But anyway, I prefer them shorter so I say MK9.
MKX is just trying too hard with them (what's the point of Tanya breaking the neck twice for example?)
